GABRIEL'S POV

The night dragged on in the hospital, each hour stretching like taffy as we paced the sterile waiting room like restless ghosts. The acrid smell of antiseptic filled the air, a constant reminder of the chaos that had unfolded. Kiera was stable, the nurse had assured us, but that word barely eased the knot in my stomach. Stable felt like a cruel joke after everything she had suffered.

Damien and I refused to leave, even though we werenโ€™t allowed access to Kieraโ€™s ward. I needed to be here when she awoke, to let her know that I hadnโ€™t abandoned her. Yet, I couldnโ€™t shake the feeling that Damien had the upper hand. He was there when she needed someone, while I was wallowing in my self-ego and jealousy.

The fluorescent lights hummed above us, casting a harsh glare that felt almost mocking. I leaned against the wall, my mind racing. What the hell was I doing here? I should have been out there, hunting down the bastards who hurt her. Instead, I was stuck in this waiting room,

KIERAโ€™S POVMy heart rumbled in my chest as I watched Gabriel walking towards the exit. At the same time, Damien settled beside me, his arms wrapping around me. Unconsciously, my eyes darted toward the threshold and I saw Gabriel standing there, his countenance cold as ice. He could get a heart attack for all I care!Anger and sadness tangled together in my mind, a storm brewing that I couldnโ€™t escape, as I watched him ball his fist and walk away. What was his beef anyway? Didnโ€™t he make it clear once more that we were never gonna cross the contract lines? Why was he acting like he had swallowed a box of nails? My eyes fluttered shut as I calmed myself in Damienโ€™s embrace. The last thing I remembered before waking up in this room was the blinding glare of headlights, three sets of them rushing toward me, then a punch that knocked the world out from under me. It all felt like a nightmare I couldnโ€™t wake from.โ€œHey,โ€ Damienโ€™s voice broke through my whirlwind of thoughts, his brow furrow

DAMIEN'S POVEverything that had happened felt like a whirlwind, and I was still trying to catch my breath. I wasnโ€™t lying when I said that I donโ€™t know what Iโ€™d do if I lost Kiera. Iโ€™d be more than devastated. Kiera had taken up almost every cell in my body, and all I wanted was for her to be safe and sound. As I drove home, a hint of rage still lingered in my chest like a pot threatening to boil over.I was mad at Gabriel for the role he played in this but I couldnโ€™t lash out on him. Gabriel, even though he went too far this time. Leaving Kiera on that godforsaken lonely road was a wrong move and if he were one of our men, heโ€™d probably be knocking at the gates of hell right now. His ego had almost cost Kiera her life, and that would be something I could never forgive.I pulled into the driveway, barely registering the surroundings. I stormed into the house, needing a shower to wash away the grime of the horrific events and to grab some things for Kiera. I didnโ€™t even bother checkin

MIGUELโ€™S POVโ€œWe can't let him bask in the glory of thinking his little threat has us quaking in our boots,โ€ I declared, my gaze flickering like a candle in the wind between Diego and Joe.โ€œBut Boss, Don Pablo isnโ€™t exactly a dimwit. Heโ€™s itching for a showdown,โ€ Diego countered, his brow furrowing.โ€œAnd you think Iโ€™m oblivious to that? Iโ€™ve seen the havoc he wreaks. But unless we draw the first blood, he we'll just be a headless chicken running in circles,โ€ I shot back.โ€œBut we did invade his turf to snatch back our shipment,โ€ Joe chimed in, trying to find a foothold in this precarious conversation.โ€œTrue enough, but as long as heโ€™s got no solid evidence linking us to his allegations, heโ€™s all bark and no bite. The unwritten rules of the underworld are his only leash, and he knows that crossing us could very well mean signing his own death warrant,โ€ I explained, my voice dripping with confidence.โ€œSo whatโ€™s our next move, then?โ€ Joe asked, his voice laced with uncertainty.โ€œWe keep o

DAMIENโ€™S POVโ€œAre you really considering going to spend the weekend with Gabriel at Abuelaโ€™s place?โ€ I demanded, my voice barely concealing the simmering fury bubbling beneath the surface.โ€œWhat would you have me do?โ€ Kiera threw back, clearly frustrated.โ€œWell, you could have come up with anything. You could have conjured up any excuse under the sun to make her change her mind!โ€ I barked, struggling to keep my emotions in check.โ€œOh like โ€œIโ€™m sorry Abuela but your grandson is an asshole and to clear the air, Iโ€™m not even his real fiancรฉ,โ€ Is that what I should have said?โ€ She lashed out, crossing her arms.โ€œCome on, Kiera. Thatโ€™s not what I meant,โ€ I countered.โ€œThen what did you expect me to do? Because no one hates this situation more than me, and itโ€™s driving me insane!โ€ She squealed.I took a deep breath, knowing she didnโ€™t deserve my wrath. KIERAโ€™S POVI opened my mouth and snapped it shut, the words tangled in my throat. I had the response at the tip of my tongue, yet his question was totally unexpected.I knew he was into me, but not to this point. โ€œFor the rest of our lives?โ€ Thatโ€™s really a long time commitment, and I needed to make sure he knew what he was getting himself into. If this was just a fleeting infatuation, I wouldnโ€™t want him to commit to me and regret it in the future.โ€œF*ck! I knew you wouldnโ€™t want that. I know you canโ€™t be mine. What was I even thinking?โ€ He grunted, turning away from me.โ€œNo, no! Thatโ€™sโ€ฆ. thatโ€™s not it?โ€โ€œThen what is it?โ€ He probed, spinning back to face me, his voice calm as a zephyr. The charm of his alluring green eyes trapped my soul, and as I stared at him, I knew one thing; I wanted him. GABRIEL'S POVTwo days. Just two damned days of sleepless nights, and it felt like I was trapped in a never-ending purgatory. Kiera hadnโ€™t uttered a single word to me, and her silence gnawed at my insides like a rat in a wall. How do I claw my way out of this mess? I feared Iโ€™d lost her for good, and the thought was like drowning in a sea.I was shocked when she agreed she agreed to Abuelaโ€™s request, but I knew it was merely a byproduct of the contract and her respect for Abuela.I slammed my fist against the bed, feeling the pain radiate through my knuckles, โ€œIโ€™m f*cking losing it!โ€ I growled, frustration slapping me hard. When she skipped dinner yesterday, I couldnโ€™t stand it. I went to her room to check on her, I heard her footsteps heading toward the door but as soon as I called her name, I heard her footsteps retreating like I was some kind of plague. KIERAโ€™S POVWho in their right frame of mind shows up at someoneโ€™s house without any prior notice? Fabian must be all in his head!I had deliberately ignored his calls over the past few days because I didnโ€™t want to talk to him. I wasnโ€™t about to lead him on or give him any false hope that I shared in his fatherโ€™s desire for him to court me. How on earth did he even find this address?I sighed heavily, lifting myself off the bed, feeling a knot of anxiety twist in my stomach.โ€œAre you really going to meet him?โ€ Damien asked, resting on his elbow, his mood nearly unreadable, like a storm cloud hovering just out of sight.โ€œYeah, I guess I have to,โ€ I said, making my way to the closet. I grabbed a blouse and a flared skirt, pulling them on.Before I could fully turn around, I saw Damien already wearing his pants, his movements quick and purposeful.โ€œWhat are you doing?โ€ I questioned, my brows scrunching together in surprise.โ€œYou really think Iโ€™m just going to sit here while you go off t

KIERAโ€™S POVThe weekend crept up on me faster than a cat on a mouse, catching me completely off guard. Ever since my meeting with Fabian, Damien had been like a ghostโ€”present but somehow so far away. Heโ€™d taken the rest of the week off but returned to work after our talk, and for the past two days, heโ€™d made a habit of avoiding me. Leaving before the sun even peeked over the horizon and sliding in late at night, his texts were as short as a kidโ€™s attention span in a boring class. As I was packing my bag, the door swung open, and my heart clamped the moment I spotted Damien. My hard was thumping and fluttering at the sight of him. I had missed him so much, and his presence suddenly brought a smile on my face.โ€œI see youโ€™re getting ready to leave,โ€ he said, approaching me.I paused, scanning his face, โ€œWhy have you been avoiding me?โ€ I asked, contrasting his statement.โ€œI havenโ€™t,โ€ he shot back, the defensiveness in his tone sharper than a chefโ€™s knife.โ€œOh please. ABUELAโ€™S POVThe first thing I became aware of was the dull, insistent throbbing in my head, followed by the faint murmur of voices, hushed yet urgent. My body felt like it had been weighed down with stones, each limb sluggish and aching. A soft groan escaped my lips as a wave of confusion clouded my thoughts. What on earth had happened to me?Memories wavered at the edge of my consciousness, fragmented and disjointed. One moment, I had been walking to my room, and thenโ€”sharp, searing pain, like a knife driving into my temple. After that, there was only darkness. My eyelids felt impossibly heavy, but I forced them open, blinking against the golden light spilling through the curtains. The world came into focus in a haze of soft morning glow, and the first thing I saw were two pairs of eyes, filled with an emotion I couldnโ€™t quite placeโ€”fear, relief, something deeper. Kieraโ€™s gaze shimmered with unshed tears, her lips parted as if she had been mid-prayer. Gabrielโ€™s was darker, stormier,

KIERAโ€™S POVThe garden unfolded before me like a scene from a dream, the kind you didnโ€™t dare wake from, no matter how unreal it seemed. Lights flickered along the pathway, delicate and soft, casting a golden glow that danced against the darkening sky. My breath caught as I moved closer, the atmosphere heavy with the scent of jasmine and roses. Then I saw him.Gabriel stood at the center of it all, surrounded by the kind of romantic decor youโ€™d only see in movies. Lanterns hung from low branches, their light illuminating his faceโ€”a face so achingly perfect it made my heart stumble. His eyes, piercing and deep, found mine instantly, and for a moment, I forgot how to breathe. He wore a simple white shirt, the sleeves rolled up just enough to reveal strong forearms, the fabric clinging to his frame in a way that accentuated his broad shoulders and toned chest. Casual, yet effortlessly magnetic, he looked like he had stepped out of a TV show.โ€œWhat is this?โ€ I asked, my voice trembling as

My nerves were already stretched thin, but I forced myself to stay composed. Barely.โ€œWhat did she say?โ€ I questioned, though I already knew the answer deep in my gut. I just needed to hear him say it.His piercing gaze rested on me for a few heavy seconds before he finally spoke. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Kiera, but we have to go through with it.โ€The words landed like a gut punch, knocking the air from my lungs. I blinked, my vision narrowing as I let out a bitter scoff.โ€œI canโ€™t do this!โ€ My voice cracked, betraying the tidal wave of emotions crashing inside me. โ€œEverything is justโ€”just too much! GABRIELโ€™S POVWhat the hell was Abuela thinking? My fork paused halfway to my mouth, the food suddenly tasting like ash on my tongue. I forced myself to chew, but each bite felt like gravel, heavy and bitter. The look on Kieraโ€™s faceโ€”wide-eyed, pale, practically trembling, was impossible to ignore. It was written all over her: she was overwhelmed, teetering on the edge of panic. My jaw tightened, muscles clenching as I set the fork down with deliberate care. If I let myself speak now, Iโ€™d regret it. Abuelaโ€™s declaration echoed in my head. "Iโ€™m hosting your engagement party tomorrow night." No warning, no consultation, just a bomb dropped in the middle of breakfast.โ€œAbuela,โ€ I said, my voice low, controlled, but with an edge that sliced through the hum of conversation. โ€œI need to speak to you. Now.โ€Her sharp eyes flicked toward me, arching a brow in challenge, but she didnโ€™t argue.โ€œFine. My study.โ€I pushed my chair back and stood. KIERA'S POVThe dining room was a masterpiece of eleganceโ€”crystal chandeliers dripping light like molten gold, a table so long it seemed to stretch into eternity, and a breakfast spread that could rival any royal banquet. Yet, the grandeur felt suffocating this morning, as if the walls themselves were closing in on me, ready to swallow me whole.I hesitated near the doorway, my gaze instinctively darting toward Catherine, who was sitting beside Abuela. My heart screamed for me to sit beside her, to escape the magnetic pull of Gabriel sitting opposite Abuela.Just as I took a tentative step forward, Abuelaโ€™s voice sliced through the air like a knife, โ€œKiera, sit next to Gabriel,โ€ she said with a tone that brooked no argument. My stomach twisted. Then, finally, the answer came, as infuriatingly vague as the one before it.โ€œNothing concrete... thereโ€™s no tangible link to her background. Itโ€™s like sheโ€™s a ghost.โ€A ghost? The phrase lingered, sour in my mind. Ghosts bury their secrets in shallow graves, hoping no one would dig deep enough.
