chapter 04

I soon realised that I made a grave mistake trusting the Alpha's arrogant son, because the moment his girlfriend laid eyes on me wearing HER clothes she all but stripped me naked in front of everyone, then I was reported over to the principal's office and just when I thought things couldn't get any better I was suspended for an entire week before the exams would begin.

When the principal announced my suspension, I wanted nothing more than for the Earth to just open up and swallow me whole. How was I going to get into a good college now with this on my record? When I was convinced that the day couldn't get any worse I was once again proven wrong when I went over to the coffee shop where I worked to at least convince my boss to give me the salary for the days I had worked.

But when I arrived today the place was shut down, the dream I had heard of for years of escaping this place was falling apart like a pack of cards.

And all because of one person.

Drake.

"Oh no, did they shut down this place? it used to be my favourite hangout…"

Just as I was thinking about that jerk he appeared behind me, and it took almost every single fibre of self-control for me not to punch him right across the face.

"Why?"

That was the only word that could come out of my throat that was gripped by sobs.

"Why are you doing this to me? Drake tell me what I did to you that was so bad that you have hated me from the moment we met?"

He had started making my life miserable all the way from middle school, but I couldn't remember what I ever did to him to deserve such long lasting hatred. The smirk that was on his face twisted up.

"You want to know why I hate you?"

Well at least he wasn't denying the fact, but why did it sting so badly?

"When it's simple…" he said, stuffing his hands into his pockets.

"And that reason makes me hate you even more everyday I see you, whenever I see you walking , talking or even laughing it infuriates me because of that reason…"

I had never heard Drake sound this bitter before, initially I just thought that he picked on me because he found me as an easy target but it seems that his hatred for me was more deep-rooted that that

"... The reason I hate you so much it's because you exist at all,"

I was staring at him for five straight seconds without saying anything, I don't even know why I was expecting a sensible answer coming from him.

I nodded, biting my bottom lip.

"Well congratulations!" I said in a high-pitched voice, flying my hands above my head as the burning tears finally broke through my eyes.

"... Because thanks to you I don't even want to keep existing anymore!"

I brought my hands down and walked past shoving him by his side.

When I returned home, my stepmother was waiting for me. She had not come back home yesterday. She was probably having too much fun with her boyfriend's outside but today she sat on the couch with her legs crossed and her eyes shooting glares at me like bullets.

"Young lady we need to talk,"

I looked away, casting my eyes up the stairs that led to my bedroom, my only safe sanctuary in the world. My legs began to carry me past her.

"Clara!" She called out my name in a sharp hiss that slit through my eardrums.

"I said we need to talk…"

By that time I already had one shaking leg on the staircase, and I snapped my neck towards her direction.

"Can we do it another time? I'm just…I'm just so tired right now."

I was about to resume my journey up to my room when she suddenly dropped something that made my heart stop beating for a few seconds.

"Your father has been admitted into the hospital,"

It was then and only then the bags of her bags that had been arranged in the living room.

"Wait, are you leaving him?"

She nodded, pulling a stray strand of hair over her ear.

"You can go and meet him if you like, but I'll be leaving this place…the rent is about to expire anyways so you better find somewhere else to live or you could be homeless it's really none of my business."

I had to grip the railing of the staircase so that I would not crumble onto the floor as my legs wanted to give up on me and were shaking like jelly.

"You are joking…" those were the first words that managed to crawl out of my throat and through my trembling lips.

"Please…please tell me it's a joke, Sasha…"

She gave me a dirty look and then almost rolled her eyes to the back of her head glancing down at awards when the horn of a car suddenly filled both of our ears.

"Ugh, I thought he was never going to arrive."

I didn't have to wonder who he was for a long time when suddenly the door cracked open and a man that was well over 6 feet strolled in casually walking over to my stepmother and then they locked lips so intensely as if their lives depended on it.

When they finally parted it seemed it was only because they wanted to breathe again and I was just staring at them like an inanimate doll, unable to move an inch of my body.

As she was about to walk away, I called out to her at the top of my voice.

"Didn't you just say that my father was at the hospital? Are you just going to abandon him there like that? He could die!"

She looked at me tilting her head towards her boyfriend's direction and asked without a shred of shame.

"And how is that my problem?"
