chapter 01

"Just how useless are you exactly?!"

I thought that my eardrums were going to explode when my boss yelled at me and I shook my head as you berated me with more insults one after the other until he was breathing heavily and sweat was dripping down his big forehead.

"I'm sorry, Sir" I apologize for the millionth time, my face planted to the floor. There was nothing I wanted more in the world than to quit this job. Three months ago when I saw the sign that help was needed at this coffee shop I should have just kept walking by.

But I knew that I didn't have a choice, there was no way that I was going to be able to go back to my home if I didn't have something to give to my step mother, and my father was probably going to be too drunk to even defend me and even if he was sober he wouldn't be able to do anything either because that women had him wrapped around her fingers.

So I had to endure this. I'll be graduating from high School pretty soon and turning 18. I had already planned out to the college that I was going to attend, that was why I had to keep this job so that I would have enough money for it.

Though I don't understand why I have to be polite to customers when they won't be polite to me as well. Even if I didn't understand it, I still tried my best to keep up my most realistic plastic smile whenever I was working, hoping that the day would go by as quickly as possible.

But there was this male brunete that was so shamelessly flirting with me and his friends were teasing me too, they were bullied from my school and since they knew that we were going to be graduating soon he wanted to do everything possible to make my life a living hell before I could finally escape their grasp.

Reporting to the teachers was no help at all because this boy was the Alpha's son and heir, so even if my father could lay up drinking for a day and decided to actually drop by he would still once again be helpless to do anything.

The moment I spotted them from across the coffee shop I knew that I was in trouble and they refused for anybody else to take their order other than me, and while I was doing so all of them were looking at me especially that brunet as if I was a piece of meat.

"Hey four eyes…"he said to me grinning from ear-to-ear and as annoying as it was I found myself actually admiring his face because he was so unbelievably handsome. How could such a terrible job have such wonderful genetics? If only you were just as ugly as his personality.

"I've already told you before…"I said mumbling.

Four eyes was the nickname that he had given me and something that has stuck all the way from middle school because I needed to wear glasses to see properly

"... my name is Clara, not four eyes…"

"My name is Clara not four eyes," he repeated after me mimicking my voice with a squeaky rabbit one and all the other boys on the table immediately burst into laughter as if he had said the funniest joke of the century.

I endured all of that and even took their orders, but when I brought him over to him he decided that he had not embarrassed me enough. At the moment he took a sip of his coffee he immediately spat it on my dress.

"Ugh, what the hell did you use to make this, toilet water? Please get me something better…"

That was when I had had it up to my neck, I grabbed the ice coffee that one of his friends had ordered and dumped it on his head, my hands moving like a flash of lightning and it was as if the earth broke open with the panic that immediately ensued.

"Don't you know that this boy is there and he can have this entire place shut down if he wants to?"

My boss's scolding brought me back to reality, I nodded regretting why I had been so reckless.

"You are going to apologize to him and make sure that he doesn't shut down my business"

I looked at him with pleading eyes that said the words that I wanted to before my lips could, and his own eyes responded with a stone cold glare.

Why was this happening to me now? I just had two and a half weeks and I was supposed to get away from this pack. I just needed my last paycheck to secure myself.

"Alright then so I said in a resigned tone I'll just get back to work but he immediately grabbed me by my arm.

"What do you mean by work? I don't even want to see your shadow around this place until I know that you have apologized to him…"

I took off the apron that was used while working and then left the coffee shop, already imagining how my stepmother would be scolding me. I knew that my boss was going to call her and tell her everything that had happened today, however fortunately for me when I came home she had not returned yet and the only thing that greeted me was the thick scent of alcohol which I followed all the way to the kitchen where it was strongest.

As my father saw me he shoved the beer bottle that he was holding in his hand back into the fridge, at this point I wondered why he even bothered trying to hide it.

The truth was that my father had never really recovered from losing my mum; she was his fated mate after all and I was just a toddler, I barely even remember her face.

"Oh, hey sweetheart, you're home early today."

I smiled at him

"It was fine, Dad…everything is fine."
