Chapter Twenty-one: No Future Together.

"Danica had locked you inside the washroom?" Selene was shocked beyond words at the revelation of how Helia had gone missing. "Why would she do that?"

Brient, Helia, and Rendall exchanged knowing looks.

"She had probably seen Helia as a threat," Brient answered with a sly grin, wiggling his eyebrows at Helia and Rendall and Helia choked on the brownie Selene had coaxed her to eat. After she, Brient, and Rendall had returned from the ice cream parlor, they went to Selene's apartment. Selene had rushed home from the office to prepare something for Helia and after much thought, she made brownies. Helia did not want Selene's effort to be in vain, so she had to eat some despite how little her appetite was, and the little appetite she had was lost completely at Brient's words.
