Fiona's pov

Three paths opened before me.

Each one stretched into shadow, no sign of where it led. I pressed the glowing plant against my chest, its red light flickering across the stone walls, my arm still bleeding from the thorn wound.

“Which way?” I whispered to myself. My voice shook.

Behind me, the beast slammed its wings inside the pit. The ground quaked, dust falling in soft rains over my hair. It couldn’t fit inside this narrow crawl, but it wasn’t leaving either. Its growl rumbled through the rock, patient, as if it knew I’d make the wrong step and find myself back in its reach.

My breath hatched.

The left tunnel dipped downward, water dripping somewhere deep inside. The middle rose at a sharp angle, the air colder, heavy as though something waited at the top. The right twisted almost immediately, so tight I couldn’t see past the curve.

My hand shook as I brushed sweat from my brow. Every choice could mean life or end in a dead wall.

“I don’t have time,” I told myself, louder

  • A DEAL WITH THE ALPHA DEVIL   Hundred and forty three: moving stone

Fiona's povKael’s blade gleamed inches from my throat, its sharpness catching the faint light that filtered through smoke above the courtyard. The chants of Ironfang soldiers pounded around me, their roars feeding Kael’s ego.At first, I thought I imagined it. A wish made desperate, a hope clawing at shadows. But then it came again. A pulse surging upward through the stone, steady, commanding, alive.Kael faltered. His arm hesitated mid-air, his dark gaze flicking downward as if the very earth mocked him. Around us, murmurs swept the enemy ranks, uncertainty sliding like oil through their triumph.I bit down a smile. They couldn’t see it, but I felt it. Beneath our feet, he stirred.Logan.Kael snarled, recovering his poise. “Tricks. A dying pack’s wishful delusion.” He swung the blade higher, ready to sever my life, ready to seal Whiteclaw’s doom with my blood. But the ground bucked. A violent tremor cracked through the courtyard, splitting the stones beneath me. Shouts erupted, sol

  • A DEAL WITH THE ALPHA DEVIL   Hundred and forty two: before the execution

Fiona's povKael’s men had dragged me out of Logan’s chamber, hauled me into the courtyard where Whiteclaw’s heart once pulsed with unity. Now it lay desecrated, overrun with Ironfang banners and soldiers laughing over broken bodies. The pack I had once admired for its strength stumbled in confusion, leaderless. Some still swung blades, others were herded into corners, beaten down by the sheer force of Kael’s army. Children cried against walls, mothers pressed themselves in front of them, while warriors groaned under boots pressing them to the ground. And there I was, shoved onto my knees among the captured. A chain linked me to Serena on one side and Rowan on the other, Amaiya and my uncle Magnus bound not far off. My wound from Rowan’s blade throbbed viciously with each heartbeat, but I forced myself upright, unwilling to show weakness before the man who now stood above us.Kael.The Alpha of Ironfang radiated menace without effort. His frame was broad, scar-laced, his expression ca

Fiona's povI lowered Logan onto the stone floor, every muscle in my body screaming from the weight of carrying him this far. His chest rose faintly, slow but steady. The plant’s bitter brew lingered on his lips, but still he had not opened his eyes.Above, Whiteclaw shook with chaos. Shouts tore the walls, steel clashed, and the scent of burning wood seeped through the cracks of the dungeon. The enemy pack had breached the gates. Serena’s voice rang sharp once, commanding her fighters, but it was swallowed quickly by the storm. Without Logan at their front, the warriors faltered, their lines broken. Then I heard it—the footsteps. Heavy. Certain. The floor above me groaned as they entered Logan’s chamber.“Turn it all over,” a voice ordered, deep and commanding. It was laced with the kind of cruelty that made men obey without question.Draven. Alpha of the Blackfang. His reputation had traveled across packs like smoke from a wildfire: merciless, ruthless, unstoppable. Now his boots gr

  • A DEAL WITH THE ALPHA DEVIL   Hundred and forty: back home

Fiona's povRowan’s blade had left my side burning, but I did not stop. My hand pressed against the bleeding wound as I ran forward, the glowing plant clutched tight to my chest. My lungs dragged in smoke, my ribs screamed with every breath, but my mind roared the name__Logan.I didn’t know how long I had been running. The world had blurred into trees, shadows, and my own staggering steps. Then the forest broke, and Whiteclaw rose before me.But it was no longer the stronghold I remembered.Smoke curled above the walls, black against the sky. The air tasted of ash and iron. Then thunder shook the ground, not from the heavens, but from the gates themselves as they burst open. The enemy had come.Their banners whipped in the wind, dark wolves clawed into the fabric. Their march rolled forward in a tide of fur and steel. Wolves in full form lunged through the broken gates, teeth flashing, claws gouging deep trenches into the dirt.“Hold the line!” Serena’s voice split the chaos. Sharp, c

  • A DEAL WITH THE ALPHA DEVIL   Hundred and thirty nine: attack at the border

Fiona's povMy hands clutched the glowing plant until the thorns cut deeper into my skin, but I didn’t care. Every step pounded through my bones as I forced myself out of the strange field, praying the path would lead me back to Logan. My Logan was dying. The mountain had flung me into madness and riddles, but I had endured. I carried the cure he needed. My ribs ached, my legs shook, but none of that mattered. If I could place this plant on his chest, if I could hold him one more time, then maybe, just maybe, I would win against time. The trees parted, revealing the wide boundary of Whiteclaw. The sight of it made my chest heave, walls tall and heavy with guards, smoke rising beyond them. I felt both relief and dread at once. I was nearly there. Then I saw him.Rowan.He stood at the boundary, his figure cutting sharp against the gray light. His cloak dragged behind him, his eyes narrowing as they fell on me. For a heartbeat, I thought he was just another vision sent to torment me. B
