Chapter 1 Another Choice

Author: The Breakfast Duo
Our father looked at the files on the table. The steakhouse's files. Gently, he told my sister, "I've found you a job, sweetheart. Homestay tester. You get 75 hundred once they hire you officially. Your sister can take over the steakhouse."

My sister snatched the file away before our father could say anything more. "No. I'm taking the shop."

Everyone was stunned. My sister realized she'd overreacted, so she came up with an idea and started acting cute. "If I can take the steakhouse, I can stay with you every day."

That touched my father, and he teared up. The man pulled my sister into his embrace and shot me a glare. "You'd better treasure this job, Yvonne. Don't embarrass the family. And be grateful for your sister. You owe her a lifelong debt! You'd never have been this lucky!"

My father only reluctantly gave me the job because it was better than letting an outsider take it. It was a lucrative one.

I ignored the happy family. Quietly, I said, "T-Thank you, Melanie."

My parents never cared about me. I was diagnosed with autism not too long after I was born. They thought that was bad luck, so they tossed me into the orphanage.

I knew I was not autistic. I just developed speech slower than my peers, but my parents did not have the patience to wait until I 'became normal'.

I put a lot of effort into studying and scored the highest marks on the SAT. The nation's best university took me in. Right in front of national TV, my parents cried their hearts out and told everyone how much they missed me.

That got the Internet's pity, and their business grew. After I was taken back home, my sister, Melanie Shaw, was kind and friendly to me.

She was beautiful and adorable. I was happy to have a sister like her, and I thought her kindness was real.

And then one day, I saw her tossing food on her own bed while she thought no one was looking. She then cried and went to our father, telling him that I did that to her.

Though I could speak normally after I grew up, I still stuttered when my nerves got the better of me. Panicked, I explained, "I… I didn't, Dad… I…"

My father slapped me across the face. Furious, my mother made me stand outside the house the whole night.

That was when reality hit me. I could get into the best university the nation had to offer, and this family still would not recognize me.

In our previous lives, Melanie's office burned up not long after she got a job there. The burned beam smashed into her, and she lost her legs.

The compensation money was hefty, but she could no longer live a normal life.

After I took over the steakhouse, I gave free meals to a weakened young man. He had not a penny to his name.

Months later, the young man came to me again, this time bringing with him a check of 150 million and a costly ring.

"I'd never have survived so long without your help, Eve. Marry me."

We got along for a year and fell in love. Jonathan Landton spoiled me like I was the best thing in the world after we got married.

Out of the kindness of my heart, I got the best doctor in the world to treat my sister, but she hired someone to abduct me. During my imprisonment, she killed me. With a knife straight through my body.

There was someone I still had to see—my sister. In a church far away from my nation, the nuns in black were singing hymns quietly. Then, they led the other nuns into their rooms quickly.Melanie was on the ground, but she raised her head slowly. "You bitch! How are you still alive?" she cursed.I sat down in the chair in front of her. Slowly, I said, "Ah, this is a beautiful place. You've been living the good life. I was not expecting you to hide in this place."Melanie's eyes were red, and they never peeled away from me. "How does it feel getting kidnapped by your own parents?" She cackled. "You pa

I was horrified. Of course I knew the herbicide sitting in front of me. It was the same thing that killed me in my previous life.My feet touched the bat beside me, and the noise was deafening. Our mother turned around. When she noticed I was already conscious, she smiled at me. Then, the woman came up to me holding a glass of water."You're awake. Good, it's almost time. Finish this glass of water." She tore off the tape on my mouth and grasped my chin. I thrashed and struggled, and the glass fell to the ground."Why are you doing this to me?"My mother was livid. She grabbed the bat and slammed it into my back. "You should've died a long time ago, bitch! You've been useless since you were born! Do you have any idea the hell I went through to give birth to you? "And you're born mentally challenged! Everyone laughed at me! Their kids could talk at two, but you were a mute!"If you die, your sister gets to live. We're not letting you go!"I stared at the person who gave me life,

It was the company's annual party. A grinning Joseph patted my shoulder. With approval dripping from his voice, he said, "You closed the Rowland Tech deal excellently, Eve. I thought you'd take a longer time to adapt to the team, but you made something for yourself, fast."I returned his smile and tapped my glass against his. "You flatter me. I'll always be grateful for the opportunities you give. If you hadn't been there, who knows where I'd be now."Joseph smiled at me happily and went off to talk about the upcoming business trip with the top brass. Right after he was gone, the waiter at the entrance hurried over to me."Hi, there's a lady at the entrance. She wants to see you, and she's been waiting for a while now."Curious, I put my glass down and followed the waiter out of the hall. The doors swung open, and what met me was Melanie standing right outside.I stared at her in disbelief. There were bruises under her eyes, and she was paler than a ghost. It'd only been a month s

My parents put on sheepish smiles and changed the subject. Joseph did not stay long. Not too long after he was gone, Melanie approached me, the hem of her dress raised. "Seems like I underestimated you. I did not expect you to hook up with a man like Joseph so soon."I refused to waste my time arguing with her. "Happy birthday, Melanie. It's getting late, and I have to leave."Melanie darted ahead and grabbed my hand. "But it matters not. You saw the exchange. Dad and Mom love me the most, no matter what you do. You're nothing but a piece of useless trash in our family!"Her nails were digging into my flesh. The pain was starting to throb, so I pulled my hand free, but she took the momentum and fell back down. Our parents noticed the commotion. Worried, they hurried over. "Melanie, what happened?"
