Amelia

I locked the door back with a quiet click and turned around.

Adrian stood there in the middle of my living room with his hands loose at his sides, just watching me. He didn’t say anything.

He just stared, like he was trying to decide whether coming here had been a mistake or the only thing that made sense tonight.

Then he moved. He crossed the small space between us in two slow steps, lifted his hands and cupped my cheek.

His palms were warm, as his thumbs lightly brushed my sk

ADRIAN Darrell walked towards the table. "Sorry I’m late," he said, flashing a polished, practiced smile. "The call ran longer than I expected." Harrington waved it off with a chuckle. "No harm done. Come, join us." Then he gestured towards me and Amelia, "This is Adrian and his girlfriend, Amelia." Darrell's gaze slid to me first. Then he shook my hand first, firm and confident. "Good to meet you, Adrian." "Darrell, good to meet you too," I responded. Then his eyes slid to Amelia. He paused for half a second longer than necessary. It was long enough for me to notice. "And Amelia," he drawled. Amelia offered a polite smile and extended her hand. "Nice to meet you." "Pleasure’s mine." he said, taking her hand. Harrington clapped his hands together once. "Now that everyone’s here, let’s begin, shall we?" We settled down. The terrace lights cast a soft glow over everything. A server appeared almost immediately, refilling water glasses and making sure the wine was

AMELIA I got home from work early. Dinner with the Harringtons was set for 7:00 p.m. Which meant everything about today had to be… right. Not just for the deal, but for him. I knew how much this mattered to him. How much the entire last few weeks had been building toward it. I freshened up. Then I did my makeup with more care than usual. After that, I slipped into the dress we had gotten yesterday. I paired it with the delicate gold hoops and the thin necklace, then stepped into the strappy heels. I was finished early, way before Adrian said he’d pick me up. So I was sitting on the sofa in the living room, scrolling through a marketing article on my tablet about brand positioning in a saturated market. My phone buzzed beside me. I picked it up, It was a group call. Zoey’s and Brianna's name flashed at the top, and I smiled as I answered. "Finally!" Zoey’s voice burst through the speaker, bright and teasing. "We were starting to think you’d disappeared with your hot bi

He stopped right in front of me. His eyes moved over me slowly, like he was taking in the dress. Then, he tilted his head a little to the side and squinted, like something had just clicked in his brain. I raised an eyebrow. "What?" He didn’t answer right away. Just kept looking at me with that focused, slightly puzzled expression, the corner of his mouth twitching like he was trying not to smile. "What is it?" I asked again, half-laughing. "You’re staring." He exhaled, almost like he was amused at himself. "I just realized something." "Okay… what did you just realize?" His gaze dropped to the dress again, then lifted back to my face. "When I saw you at that lounge, you were wearing blue. Our first date, you had on that blue dress. When we went to your mom’s house last weekend, you wore blue. And your car? It's blue." I tilted my head, with a small smile on my lips because I already knew exactly where this was going. He continued, his voice low and thoughtful. "And the

The following day, work passed by the normal way Thursdays sometimes do. Emails, minor deadlines, small conversations in between. Then Mr. Hillary walked in. He stopped just inside the open-plan area with his hands in his pockets. "Amelia, Megan, Casey. You three can close out for the day. Head home." We all glanced at each other, exchanging looks of confusion, then back at him. I blinked at my screen, double-checking the time. "It’s… 3:15 pm. Its there an issue?" He gave a small, almost amused shrug. "Not at all. No issue. Just the three of you today. Every other employee stays on schedule." Megan’s eyebrows shot up. Casey tilted her head like she was trying to read fine print that wasn’t there. "Uh… okay?" I said slowly. "Is everything alright?" "Everything’s fine," he replied, already turning to leave. "Enjoy the rest of your afternoon." He turned and walked away while the three of us just sat there for a second in stunned silence. "That was strange," Casey mut

AMELIA Wednesday evening, after I got off from work that day, I stood beside Mom, both of us facing the building she had been talking about since yesterday. "This is the one," she said, almost to herself. "I’ve had my eye on it for a while now. It's a perfect size for the expansion." I smiled at her. "It’s really good, Mom. I can already picture it." She turned to me, "When I mentioned it to Adrian’s assistant on Monday, he got back to me almost immediately. He said that Adrian is already looking into buying the place outright." I nodded slowly. "That's nice." Mom suddenly stopped , then turned to face me fully, her expression shifting from excited to that sharp, mother-knows-something look I’d grown up with. "Did you put him up to this, Amelia?" I shook my head quickly. "No. I only mentioned once that you wanted to expand the business to something much more bigger. That was it. He just… offered to fund it." She searched my face for a long moment, the way only she coul

That question caught me off guard. For a moment, I just looked at him. Of all the things I expected him to say, that wasn’t one of them. Mom, on the otherhand, seemed to pick up on it instantly. She straightened slightly with a hint of curiosity lighting up her expression. She nodded right along with Dad, her eyes lighting up with that hopeful, slightly worried look she got whenever my personal life came up. "Will you introduce her to us soon?" she asked, her voice was soft but eager. "We’d really love to meet her properly, not just through media photos." I sighed, rubbing the back of my neck. "Yeah." Mom studied me for a long moment. "I really hope this one is serious, Adrian." I didn’t answer right away. Inside, I just sighed again, heavier this time. About three months. That was all we had left on the clock. Less than four months until the deal closed and the contract expires, until Amelia and I went our separate ways like the contract said. Before I could come up
