Chapter 1

Author: Against the Flow
Even after a full decade of marriage, my husband Rudolf and I were as deeply in love as the day we wed—an enviable couple in the eyes of all.

On our anniversary, he said he had to go on a business trip. He left after showering me with gifts. A few minutes later, I noticed he had forgotten his briefcase. I grabbed it and chased after him, only to find him at the entrance of our neighborhood, lifting a little boy into his arms.

"Daddy, can you accompany me to the amusement park this time?"

The boy's words were enough to make me freeze as I swallowed the words I wanted to say. Instead, I instinctively hid around the corner.

"Of course. I'll even take you on a trip." Rudolf smiled warmly and kissed the boy on the forehead.

In that instant, something seemed to have exploded in my head, as if years of trust had been shattered at that one moment.

Daddy?

I looked closely and realized that the boy's features were practically the same as Rudolf's. No one could deny they were blood-related.

A beautiful woman, standing next to the boy, said gently, "Your dad's busy with work, sweetheart. Don't cling to him too much,"

When Rudolf and that woman's eyes met, they were seemingly able to communicate with each other with just a look—they didn't have to say a word.

I clutched my chest, which had suddenly spasmed with pain. I felt as though an invisible hand was squeezing the life out of me, and breathing became difficult. I told myself to calm down, but I couldn't stop myself from trembling.

The cruel moment before me made it clear. The man who swore he would love me forever had been cheating all along.

Rudolf and I were childhood sweethearts. I had stood by him through thick and thin.

Not long after our wedding, I was kidnapped by one of his enemies. During my escape, I was stabbed in the abdomen. I survived, but the injury damaged my uterus, leaving me unable to have any children.

Rudolf had fallen to his knees before me back then, eyes red and swollen as he said, "As long as you're alive! You're all I need in my life. I don't need any kids!"

I could still hear the tremor in his voice, but reality had shattered his vow.

He didn't love me anymore!

He had betrayed me!

I staggered backward, my heart feeling like it was being torn into countless pieces. The pain etched deep into my bones. I feared that if I confronted him out of recklessness right now, I would lose whatever dignity I had. I would be mocked and tossed aside.

So, I didn't dare to watch any longer. I turned and fled.

I immediately contacted a private investigator to look into what happened. I wanted solid proof.

For the past decade, Rudolf had been away for almost two weeks every month on business trips. I had never questioned it, but now I realized those trips must have been spent with that woman and their son.

Ten years…

And I hadn't doubted him even once. I had trusted him completely.

Now, reality had just dropped a bomb on me, mocking my stupidity. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, he would still be deceiving me.

Tears streamed down my face as I sat by the tall window, staring blankly at the message he had sent me.

[Honey, I love you. Did you miss me today?]

I didn't want to reply.

The message existed, but how much of the sentiment was genuine?

During his trips, he would always send me these texts to affirm his love. But now I knew they were just part of his good husband act.

Soon, my phone rang with that familiar ringtone.

Seeing "Husband" on the screen, I felt an overwhelming wave of irony.

"Honey, why didn't you reply? Are you feeling unwell? Do you want me to come back to accompany you?" His anxious voice came through the moment I picked up numbly.

"I was in the shower and didn't see your message. Focus on your work. Come back when you're done."

I lied. I didn't want to see him right now.

Rudolf exhaled audibly, relieved, then said gently, "Alright, get some rest. I'll bring you a gift when I come back."

I hummed in recognition.

Just as I was about to hang up, a woman's tender voice came through the receiver on his end.

"Darling, I want it already. Take off your clothes now…"

Rudolf panicked and shook his head in denial. "It is not like that. I… I… I was forced! I made a mistake!"His explanations were nothing but excuses, empty and feeble.I laughed, finding his desperation ridiculous. "Honey, I really love you. Give me another chance. Let's start over."He looked at me in sorrow, eyes full of sincerity. Still, his persistence wore out my patience. My expression hardened, my voice sharp with contempt."Rudolf, have the decency to act like a man! You have to take responsibility after you cheated. No matter whose fault it was, you already have a son with her. You've already hurt me. Now, to win me back, you want to hurt them? Do you even have a conscience?"You keep saying you love me, but everything you do only brings me pain. Not to mention, Vivian's pregnant again. Are you planning to deny that you'll have children with her forever? I really don't want to discuss with you about what happened between you two, but what you do will only make me hate

The Gray family was embroiled in scandal, which led to their business partnerships failing, and their stock price kept falling.Rudolf was overwhelmed by managing the crisis, yet he was still obsessed with finding me, even offering a high reward for information about my whereabouts.I hid my identity in Lumiere City as I focused entirely on work. I had no wish to see him again, so I made sure no one could leak anything about me.Later, I heard that Rudolf had thrown Vivian out.He claimed the divorce agreement was signed when he was not of sound mind, and accused Vivian of orchestrating everything behind his back, making her the scapegoat. But since Sean was a Gray by blood, Rudolf kept the boy and got rid of the mother.Sean, desperate not to lose his mother, cried uncontrollably and eventually fell ill, ending up hospitalized with a serious fever. Vivian, barred from seeing her child, made a scene at the hospital, cursing Rudolf for his cruelty. The Gray family, fearing furthe

"Rudolf, since everyone knows about this already, you should take this chance to announce Sean and my identity!" Vivian said, eyes glinting with triumph as she feigned innocence, holding Rudolf's arm. She even signaled discreetly to Sean.Sean understood immediately and ran over, shouting, "Daddy, Mommy!"That call made their relationship unmistakably clear.Rudolf regained his senses. He glared at Vivian and Sean, instantly freezing them in their tracks with a single look."Rudolf, didn't you say you loved me too?" Vivian tried tentatively.Disgusted by her tone, Rudolf snapped. "Love? You? Get out of my sight!"He shoved her aside, contempt in his expression.Vivian stumbled, reaching out for him, but the bodyguards blocked her.The crowd, seeing Rudolf leave, began to condemn Vivian. Sean's expression was full of distress when he heard that, unwillingness written all over him. "I don't want to! My mom is Vivian, not Amelia. I don't want her to be my mother! I hate her!"Seeing the boy refuse, Rudolf's expression darkened as he scolded him. "Stop this nonsense! Do as you're told."He knew it would be difficult for the child to accept someone he disliked, but if he wanted Sean to join the Gray family, the boy had to publicly acknowledge me as his mother. Unfortunately, I had no desire to play that role."I don't care! I want my mom! I want my mommy!" Sean was only a small boy raised by Vivian since birth, so naturally, he would be unwilling to leave his real mother. The guests noticed the commotion.Embarrassed, Rudolf picked Sean up and tried to comfort him. "Just listen. I'll let you see your mom soon."Sean quieted down once Rudolf agreed, his face calm again. Rudolf finally breathed a sigh of relief. He scanned the crowd, but when he noticed that no

I cackled, tears rolling down my cheeks."Rudolf! You're lying to me! You keep on lying to me! How long do you plan to keep lying to me?!"My hysteria left Rudolf stunned, his breath caught, frozen in place. He opened his mouth, but there were no words. It was as if he sensed something yet lacked the courage to confront it, choosing instead to feign ignorance."Rudolf! Sean fainted! Come over and take a look right now!" Vivian suddenly screamed. While we were locked in confrontation, Vivian called out urgently from outside. Hearing that his son was ill, Rudolf panicked and turned to leave with Vivian.Watching him go, all my pent-up emotion vanished, as if my outburst amounted to nothing.A decade of love, reduced to ash at last.I took back my phone and saw a message from my father. I didn't want him to touch me. He was filthy. Last night, he kissed another woman. Even the mere memory of it disgusted me."Daddy… I'm back." A boy's sobbing voice came from outside.Sean appeared before everyone."Daddy, she's a bad woman! She tried to get rid of me!" Sean rushed into Rudolf's arms, pointing at me.Sylvia's rage was immediately ignited. "Amelia! How can you be so brutal?! Sean is just a child. How can you do something so unforgivable?"Rudolf's gaze bore into me, full of suspicion. My face darkened as I was starting to get a headache. A sense of helplessness overtook me. I gave a bitter smile and yielded."If you are all convinced it's my fault, then there's no point in explaining.""Daddy, she admitted it! Make her leave! I don't want to see her again." Sean pleaded, clutching Rudolf's arm.I looked at Sean, catching the glance he exchanged with Vivian. There was praise flickering in Vivian's eyes, and only then did Sean relax."Son, we must punish her
