The sound of expensive shoes echoed across the marble floor of Cole Enterprises.

Peter Grant walked through the hallway with the same confidence he took everywhere he went. Heads turned as employees identified him.

The name Grant carried weight in New York.

Power, money and influence.

But Peter had never cared about admiration.

To him, business was simple.

You either win or lose.

His assistant, followed closely behind, holding a laptop in his briefcase.

“Mr. Grant, Adrian Cole is waiting for you on the twentieth floor.”

Peter gave a little nod.

They stepped inside as the elevator doors parted.

Peter adjusted his cufflinks and stared at his reflection in the polished metal doors.

Everything about him looked flawless.

The tailored suit.

The expensive watch.

The controlled expression.

Anyone watching him would assume his life was perfect.

But lately, something has been bothering him.

A weird emptiness he refused to acknowledge.

His assistant glanced at him carefully.

“Is everything alright, sir?”

Peter’s eyes remained fixed ahead.

“Why wouldn’t it be?”

His assistant immediately looked away.

Peter Grant was not a man people questioned.

The elevator doors opened.

The atmosphere on the executive floor was different from the rest of the building. Serene and controlled.

The receptionist stood immediately.

“Mr. Grant, You’re welcome.”

Peter nodded and walked toward the large office at the end of the hallway.

The same office where, only minutes earlier, Esther Williams had sat nervously across from Adrian Cole.

But Peter didn’t know that yet.

The door opened.

Adrian stood behind his desk, looking calm and composed.

“Peter Grant.” Adrian said with a faint smile.

“Adrian Cole.” Peter whispered.

The two men shook hands.

Both were men who understood power.

“Please, sit.”

Peter took the chair opposite Adrian’s desk.

“I appreciate you taking the time to meet me.”

Adrian returned to his seat.

“I prefer meeting with people directly before making business decisions.”

Peter leaned back slightly.

“Smart.”

Adrian studied him for a moment.

“You’ve built quite a reputation.”

“So have you.”

A brief silence settled between them.

Not uncomfortable.

Just two powerful men measuring each other.

The meeting continued for almost an hour.

They discussed investments, partnerships, and future projects.

Peter was direct and strategic, never wasting words.

Adrian, however, was different.

He listened more than he spoke.

He noticed everything.

“You’re careful,” Peter said.

Adrian raised an eyebrow.

“Is that a compliment?”

“It’s an observation.”

A faint smile touched Adrian’s lips.

“I’ll take it.”

Peter glanced at the documents on the table.

“This partnership could benefit both companies.”

“It could,” Adrian replied.

“But?”

Peter noticed the hesitation.

Adrian folded his hands.

“But I don’t make decisions based only on profit.”

Peter’s expression remained unreadable.

“Business is business.”

“Sometimes…,” Adrian said calmly.

“Sometimes it’s about the people behind it.”

For some reason, the statement stayed with Peter longer than he expected.

After finalizing their discussion, Peter stood.

“I believe we’re done here.”

Adrian stood as well.

“I’ll have my team review the final documents.”

Peter nodded.

Peter walked out of the office, followed by his assistant.

Neither man noticed the folder resting on Adrian’s desk.

The same folder with Esther Williams’ name written across it.

Outside Cole Enterprises, Esther stood near the entrance, holding the employment folder firmly

against her chest.

She was still in denial about what had happened.

Esther had walked into this building, thinking she didn’t belong there just few hours ago .

Now she was leaving with a job.

A new beginning.

She looked down at the folder and smiled faintly.

“Maybe things can finally change,” she whispered.

The thought scared her.

Hope always scared her.

Life found a way to break her every time she allowed herself to believe things will get well.

Her phone vibrated.

The taxi she ordered was still a few minutes away.

She moved closer to the other side of the building, far from the busy entrance.

The wind blew through her long curly hair as she stared at the busy streets.

Esther didn’t notice Peter stepping out of the building behind her.

The taxi arrived, and she quickly opened the door and sr inside.

Peter remained standing there, watching the taxi disappear into the crowded streets of New York.

He didn’t understand why his chest felt strangely heavy.

Why the sight of a woman he had never met before felt like a memory he couldn’t reach.

“Sir?”

His assistant’s voice pulled him back.

Peter looked away, forcing his expression back into its usual coldness.

“I don’t know,” he answered quietly.

But his eyes remained fixed on the road where the taxi had vanished.

“I just feel like I’ve seen her before.

A Door Left Open Esther stood outside the CEO’s office, her hand hovering over the polished oak door. Her heart pounded against her ribs. She had survived betrayal, hunger and the pain of leaving the hospital with two newborns and a broken heart.Yet standing outside this door terrified her more than all of those memories.A slow breath filled her lungs before escaping through trembling lips. She straightened her shoulders and knocked.“Come in.”The deep voice was calm, confident and commanding.Esther slowly pushed the door open. The office was unlike anything she had ever seen.Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked Manhattan, while awards, books and expensive furniture whispered wealth and power.Behind a massive walnut desk sat Adrian Cole.He was reading a document, his attention fixed on the page.He didn’t look up immediately.Instead, he finished reading the final paragraph, signed the document with a smooth stroke of his pen, then closed the file.Only then did he lift his eyes

The morning sun rays reflected through the window glass. The alarm blared at 6:30 a.m., slicing through the small apartment like a cruel reminder that life didn’t wait for her.Esther groaned softly in her bed, she felt tired but she forced herself to get up. She rubbed her eyes and whispered, “Another brand-new day, Esther. You got this.”Her eyes shifted to the corner of the room where her twins slept. The twins woke up and stared at their mom almost at the same time. Her son rubbed his eyes and sat up, messy hair sticking in every direction. He said, “Mommy?” in a sleepy voice. “Is it morning already?”“Yes, baby,” his mother replied softly, kissing his forehead. “Time to get ready.”Her daughter peeked out from the pillow, frowning. “Five more minutes…”A weak grin curved Esther's lips. The twins were the reason she never gave up. She walked into the tiny kitchen. The peeling paint and broken cabinet handles remind her daily of how difficult her life has become. She warmed milk a

Three years later….The bar smelled of spilled alcohol and stale smoke. The floor was sticky and the air was thick with noise. There was a rise and fall of laughter, sometimes harsh and at other times gentle, blending with a clatter of glasses.Esther wiped down the counter with a moist rag, her hands trembling from fatigue. Her blouse hung down her back, and her feet ached in old worn-out shoes. The night seemed forever. She dislikes this place. Every corner of the bar smells like shame. Every laugh feels like it’s mocking her. But she can’t leave… not yet. Not when her babies are waiting at home. She has to endure this for them. She forced a small grin as she carried another tray of whisky to a rowdy table.“Hey, sweetheart,” one of the men called, his words slurred. His friends chuckled, their eyes crawling over her like she was a prize on display. “How about a smile for me, hmm? Might earn you a bigger tip.” The man’s eyes dragged over her, his grin sloppy with liquor.Esther’s h

Divorce? Is he divorcing me? No… this can’t be real. Not after everything she has done. Not after all the love she gave him. Not after she carried his children in her body. Her tears spilled instantly, wetting the page. She blinked hard, hoping the words would blur away into something else. But they weren't.Peter stood tall at the end of her bed, arms folded neatly, his face carved from stone. Standing beside him, Maria clung shamelessly to his arm, her smug smile cutting deeper than any blade. As Esther tried lifting her eyes, her lips began trembling as she spoke. “Peter… Why? Why would you do this to me?”His jaw flexed, but his eyes held no warmth. “Because this marriage is over. And you know it.”Her mind scr

  • A Divorce He’ll Never Forget    The Unwanted Truth

The first thing Esther noticed was the sharp smell. It wasn't fragrance or the comforting scent of home; it was strong and sterile, the type of smell that lingered in her nose and burned her throat. Her eyelids fluttered as the brightness above her pierced into her head. She let out a groan and lifted her trembling hand, as if her fingers alone were an obstacle to block the light. The ceiling wasn’t familiar: White tiles and a bright bulb. The faint beep, beep, beep of a machine beside her. Her heart stuttered in confusion.“Where am I?” The words scraped out, rough and dry. Her lips felt cracked, her tongue rough like sandpaper.A sharp pain pressed against her ribs, and her chest tightened as she tried to sit up. Panic rose in her, sharp and bitter. She wasn’t in her room. The place didn’t look like her house either. The door creaked open. Two figures in white coats, their shoes shuffling softly on the floor as they stepped inside.“You’re awake,” one of them said gently, a doct
