Chapter 1

I wandered aimlessly through the streets after leaving the hospital. My mind replayed the day of the engagement, when my father had lifted an auctioned antique dagger for all to see.

"This Blade of Glory is a gift for my future grandchild. In the Rossi family, bloodline is power."

Riccardo had pinned the Colombo crest onto my chest in front of everyone. "I will protect Lia and our heir with my life," he declared.

Everyone said I had forged the strongest Mafia alliance in Ritalle. I had believed the bond was love. It was all a lie.

My phone suddenly rang. Riccardo's gentle voice came through, "Baby? Have the test results come back…? Why aren't you saying anything? Don't worry. No matter what, he's my most precious child."

I let out a bitter laugh, about to demand a divorce, when a ridiculous thought struck me: The marriage certificate and crest he had given me—they were fake. I had no right to even speak.

From the background came a soft, teasing whine, "Honey… my back hurts…"

Riccardo panicked, clapping a hand over the phone.

"Lia, go home first. I'll have the doctor come over. I'll be back soon to be with you."

The call ended abruptly.

I sat in the villa's living room until late at night before they returned. Both men wore expressions of barely concealed joy, confetti still clinging to their shoulders. They froze when they saw me.

"Why aren't you asleep yet? Oh… Daddy got too busy and forgot to bring your gift. We'll make it up next time, okay?" My father's face was full of faux apology.

Riccardo pulled me into his arms, kissing the top of my head. "Baby, are you upset we didn't go with you? Tomorrow, I will take you for another check-up, okay?"

I smelled the cloying sweetness of his cologne and felt nauseated, unable to speak. I didn't want to listen to their lies any longer. I grabbed the contract and slammed it onto Riccardo's chest.

"Sign."

He instinctively reached to inspect it, and I sneered.

"What? Do I need an audit just to buy a set of jewelry?"

Riccardo smiled indulgently. "Of course not, my little princess. Whatever you want, I'll give you."

My father jumped in, trying to compete. "I'll buy it! I should make up for missing the prenatal visit. Give me a chance to make it right."

I shook my head. "No. Only he can buy this set."

Riccardo didn't look again. He signed, then winked at my father.

"Looks like the little princess thinks her husband is more important."

They both laughed like children putting on a show.

I stared blankly at their performance.

Suddenly, both their phones buzzed. Clearly, the mother-daughter pair were calling their husbands at the same time.

My father ignored it calmly, patting my shoulder.

"A shipment at the port was held up. You should get some sleep."

He hurried off. Riccardo carried me to the master bedroom upstairs before leaving.

"There's fabric you love in that shipment. I have to oversee it too. Don't be angry. Everything we do is for you."

I said nothing.

He sighed, rubbed my head, and left.

Their acting was truly terrible.

My father now wore a new ring, and Riccardo had a boutonniere in his pocket meant for a groom. They were off enjoying their honeymoon night.

I flipped through the contract in my hands and finally relaxed when I saw the clause assigning custody to the mother. With this, Riccardo would never lay a hand on my child.

Wiping the wetness from my eyes, I dialed the committee's direct line.

"This is Lia, first in line to inherit the Rossi family. Don Colombo has voluntarily terminated the agreement. Effective immediately, all arms shipments to the Colombo family are suspended."

After that day, Elio dispatched his most elite enforcement team. Every cent my father and Rosa had embezzled was recovered—down to the last coin. And he himself? Busy accompanying me to every prenatal checkup. The spectacle each time was astonishing. Some members worried it drew too much attention.Elio didn't care. "My wife deserves nothing less than grandeur."Those whispers that once called me a "discarded woman" or a "mistress" vanished overnight. That day, after the checkup, I was about to step into the car."Lia!"A familiar voice froze my steps. I didn't turn around—until desperation edged into the voice. "Lia Rossi!"When I finally turned, I barely recognized the haggard man before me—Riccardo. Once the most dazzling Don of Southern Ritalle, now even in a suit, his weariness could not be hidden. He staggered past the bodyguards and shoved a box into my arms. Inside was a hair ornament, set with a sky-blue gemstone. It resembled the one my mother had left me—but grande

Lia's POV:My father's old face was pale, then flushed, then pale again.Riccardo barreled toward me, panic etched into every line of his face."Where have you been all these days, darling? Let me see if our baby is okay."His hand just brushed my stomach—Bang!A bullet whizzed past Riccardo's ear.Elio Massimo emerged from behind me, the gun still smoking in his hand."Touch my wife again with those filthy hands, and the next bullet will blow your head off."Riccardo's face turned iron-gray."Wife? Since when is my wife your wife?"Elio snorted. "Fiancée counts too. Unlike some people, I don't pretend one wife isn't enough to stay faithful to."My father finally found his voice, forcing calm."Enough! Continue the Donna ceremony! I am the Don; I decide!"But no one dared move.I raised a hand, satisfied. The conference room doors opened again. Three elders, wearing Committee emblems, walked in slowly."According to the final arrangements of Mrs. Maria Rossi," the lea

The room fell instantly silent. The women who had just been shouting about teaching me a lesson now collapsed to the floor, limp and terrified. Since Lina had sent them, they knew exactly who stood before them. The Massimo family—the vipers of Northern Ritalle's borderlands. Even the oldest, most venerable Mafia bosses bowed when a Massimo appeared. He removed his coat and wrapped it around me, lifting me horizontally into his arms."Get me a plane. Take us to the best hospital. And as for these people…" His gaze swept the room, cold and lethal. "Take care of all of them."A piercing, blood-curdling scream erupted through the clinic.…Third-person POV:Meanwhile, Riccardo sat, tense, scrolling through his phone. A message from his consigliere made his heart skip a beat: [Miss Lia is missing.]Lina leaned over, pouting."Stop staring at your phone, darling. What you just said hurt me… How can you say we'll divorce after the baby is born? Do you really want to marry my sister i

I didn't react. I only bent down, futilely trying to gather the scattered gems. My hand was cut, but I couldn't feel the pain.Riccardo stared at me in shock, his outstretched hand frozen midair."Lia…"Lina leaned over, feigning concern."Don't pick them up, Sis. I'll ask Mom to buy you a better one."Instinctively, I shoved her away. She retaliated with a push. I slammed into the cabinet behind me. Pain radiated from my stomach. She used the momentum to hurl herself into the champagne tower.Crash! She curled up amid the shattered glass, screaming, "Why did you push me, Lia?!""Lina!""Call the hospital!"Riccardo and my father rushed to her side, shielding her from view. No one saw the blood seeping between my legs."Lia… you've disappointed me," Riccardo said, turning to me, exhaustion in his eyes. "Stay here and reflect. Think about how you'll apologize to Lina!"They fled with her toward the hospital.I trembled, dialing the family doctor. "Help… save my child… I'm

I couldn't get a proper rest.Just as I drifted off, the noise downstairs jolted me awake. I buried myself under the covers, my head splitting with pain. But the maid kept knocking."Miss, are you awake? Don Rossi insists on hosting a birthday party for you."Since my birthday coincided with my mother's death anniversary, I hadn't celebrated for years. What was he thinking?I went downstairs. The hall was packed with Mafia family heads. I scanned the room, and my eyes froze. Every photo of my mother on the walls had been replaced with portraits of Rosa and her daughter. The butler hurried to explain."Your father said there's something he wants to tell you, Miss…"I let out a bitter laugh. So, after scheming behind my back, they now had the nerve to confront me face-to-face.Guests whispered among themselves."Did you hear? All the Rossi family's northern casino holdings were transferred to Rosa's name.""Tsk, tsk… all the legitimate wife's property, and in the end, it goes

Panic flickered in Riccardo's eyes."What? That's nonsense! You are the love of my life."He said it so naturally.Seeing the change in my expression, he leaned closer, scrutinizing me. Then, as if realizing something, he laughed."Ah… my little wildcat is throwing a tantrum again? Just say you want me to comfort you," he teased, moving in for a kiss.I turned my head instinctively. "Don't touch me!"Even someone as oblivious as him could sense something was wrong. He straightened slowly, staring at me."Lia… you've been off since yesterday…"A rapid knock at the door cut him off."Don… Li… uh, there's trouble up north!""Leave! Don't you see the Madre needs me?" he barked at his assistant, though his eyes flickered constantly toward his lit phone.I spoke coldly, "Go ahead. Don't let it delay your… serious matters.""There's nothing more important than keeping you calm. Sleep, I'll stay with you."But once he confirmed I was "asleep," he was gone in a flash. Two hours la
