spearheading the meeting

Xavier POV

The boardroom was colder than usual.

Not just the AC.

But the stares.

I noticed the subtle shift in the air the moment I stepped in.

It was faint, but iI caught it instantly, the stiffness in the way the board members sat, the uncomfortable glances and tension that enveloped the room.

Elijah's face showed it all, his displeasure on something I was not aware of. That was when I discovered that I was 20 mins late, and the meeting had not yet started.

But that was not the worst of it all,

I almost, almost stumbled on myself when I discovered that the only empty chair was the head chair that was known to be the mothers position…,but today she was not sitting on her throne of power.

My mother’s voice cut through my confusion.

“Today’s meeting will be led and spearheaded by Xavier,” she announced, calm and regal as always, her expression unreadable.

“Mother you can't …”

postponed xaviers pov I walked into the dining room. The long polished table that stretched endlessly was now occupied to the brim. The once quiet dining room bubbles with the air of celebration, especially today. every branch of the Johnson family tree was present, for the marriage that will happen in a few days time. If it was a few hours back, I would have been happy but now, after finding out that Elijah had in hand the incident that happened in Abuja, I suddenly felt like I was walking on thorns. I took a moment to scrutinize every smiling face in the room. Any one of them could be planning something. Uncles from the East, councilman from the city, close allies from across the border, everyone had returned home for the grand marriage celebration and the initiation ceremony that would follow. Today was supposed to mark a new road to a new chapter, for me as the soon to be official head of the Johnson legacy, sealed with Joeline and Felix by my side. all I felt

Chapter: No More ExcusesXavier’s POVThe sunlight streamed into my room, through the curtains like a blade, slicing across my bare floor. But today, it didn’t sting.Nor did I have my haunting nightmares for the past three weeks since Caroline left.I looked at the wall clock, 7.00 am, I had woken up early, unlike before I always wake up with a hungover and panting from my consistent nightmaresBut this morning was different…No whiskey, no Anti-depression pills. There are no nightmares this time.Just calm and a dangerous silence that continues to run through my body. Like a predator on the verge of exploding. My bedroom was still littered with empty cans and beer bottles, a haunting reminder of what my old self had been.I took a mental note to order the cleaners to do a massive clean-up in my room. I stood before the giant mirror, running a palm over my recent clean-shaven jaw, stared into the eyes of the man I had avoided for too long. I saw everything I had been running away fr

whispers behind doorsXavier’s POVThree weeks laterThe dream always ended the same.Caroline, Running. Her silhouette vanishing into fog, despite my insistent calling for her to stop. But she kept on running through the fog, her hands clutching protectively over a little boy whose face I couldn't recognise.the sound of their fading footsteps echoing through my ears like a painful reminder that I can not catch her. Then… nothing, her silhouette finally fading into the nothingness.I jolted awake, drenched in sweat, and my chest rising and falling like I’d just run a marathon. My room hadn't felt any colder, emptier than it had felt for the past three weeks. I scrubbed a hand down my face, the weight of sleep still clinging to my eyes.9.am“Shit” I exclaimed, realising that not once I have overslept again. As days passed since Caroline left my world, I have tried to move on, even tried to love Joelin and Felix unconditionally but everytime I look at Felix, I see the face of the

leaving the residence Caroline povElijah,” I muttered under my breath as he stepped in, looking fresher than anyone should this early. There was a strange gleam in his eyes, like satisfaction carefully masked behind those concerned eyes of his.“You scared the hell out of everyone,” he said lightly, taking a seat beside the bed like he belonged there.I turned my head away from him.“I’ve made up my mind,” I said after a beat. “I’m leaving. I want out, Elijah.”He raised a brow. “Out?”“I don’t want anything to do with Xavier. Not as a husband. Or relating to anything about him. I’m done being a Johnson.”I could swear I saw his side lips curve up, but as soon as it was there, it disappeared, replaced by his signature smirk. “You sure you want to go through all this alone? I understand if you are overwhelmed…”“I’m used to being alone,” I said flatly, cutting him off. “And I’ll be fine.”“You’ll need a place…”“I’ll find one,” I interrupted. “Preferably far from this estate.”He hes

you are pregnant! Caroline pov my world tilted. Even as I stood there speechless, the more desperate side of me wished that I was in a dream. But when I opened my eyes…There he was.Xavier.Shirtless sprawled on the bed, his body drenched in sweat, breath shallow and his pupils wide open with his chest rising and falling too fast like someone who had climbed mount Everest. In this case he did climb down from Mount everest. And on top of him, was Joeline.Hair wild, mouth parted in a sickening smirk, her hands were tangled in his body like she’d finally gotten her prize. The air left my lungs.burn in it.Caroline…My vision blurred.I backed away, slamming the door shut with trembling hands, swallowing whatever words he wanted to say. The picture I had taken from his study was burnt in my palm with heavy unsaid secrets I didn't know if I wanted to know. I turned sharply and stormed toward the main corridor, but I didn’t get far, before I heard a flurry of staggering footsteps
