Chapter 5

Author: Anonymous
"What happens to you in the Whites is none of our damn business. I'm telling you right now, Laura! I gave you the chance to marry into a rich family. If you won't help me, then I can take it back!"

Mona exploded with rage. She flung the fork in her hand aside and glared at me viciously.

I laughed. Mona's self-importance and how she thought everyone in the world was an idiot were simply hilarious.

Then, I smiled faintly.

"Since you want the rich wife life so badly, I can give it back to you. Jonah and I haven't gotten married yet. As long as you want this, I'm sure Dad will scrape together whatever dignity he has left to make it happen for you."

Then, I turned to my father and smiled.

"Right, Dad?"

His expression darkened. He understood I was pointing out his blatant favoritism. He knew how much he sided with Mona better than anyone.

Mona swallowed hard, her words starting to stumble.

"I-I was yielding to you because I didn't want you to suffer. And now, you're not even gratefu

Jonah leaned down and whispered in my ear. "The real reason is that I've always loved you."I froze. He continued, "In my past life, Mona took your place and married me. After that, I realized she was never the one I wanted. But you…"His fingertips brushed my cheek, his voice low."I've always wanted to give you the world."My heartbeat skipped. So the tragedy of my last life wasn't only because of Mona's greed. It was also because what she stole had always been my destiny to begin with.I looked up at him and smiled lightly. "Then how do you plan to make it up to me?"Jonah curved his lips and pulled me into his arms."With a lifetime. Is that enough?"Jonah gave me a grand wedding. The moment he held my hand was the first time since my rebirth that I truly felt alive. On the wedding day, I saw my parents. Their eyes were red as they reached out with trembling hands, trying to grab mine. My gaze, however, was cold. The couple who once always dressed in luxury now stood th

Three days later, Mona hit a dead end. She actually contacted the media herself, claiming she wanted to expose the Whites for abusing me.At the press conference, she cried her eyes out."My sister, Laura, is living worse than hell at the Whites. Jonah isn't even human. He…"Before she could finish, cameras and microphones were already pointed at her, sharp questions firing one after another."How do you know all this?"Mona sobbed."Laura has been kind since she was little. After marrying into the Whites, she became quiet and withdrawn. Every time she came back home, she was covered in bruises. It was only after we pressed her again and again that she finally told us the truth… And back then, the Whites promised to invest in our family in exchange for marrying Laura. It's been so long, but they've done nothing. They've gone back on their word."I stood quietly at the entrance, watching Mona put on a one-woman show. The reporters' questions grew sharper and sharper.I sneered.

After being blocked, Mona completely lost it.She dragged my parents straight to the Whites' villa, only to be stopped outside the iron gates by security. She screamed hysterically through the fence, "Laura! What gives you the right to freeze the bank card? Your money is my money!"I stood by the floor-to-ceiling window on the second floor, watching her humiliation with cold eyes.In my last life, she had looked down at me the same way, high and mighty, when I was cornered by creditors with nowhere to go. She had said lightly, "Laura, aren't you capable? Figure it out yourself."Now that our roles were reversed, why wasn't she figuring it out herself?Jonah appeared behind me at some point. His long fingers rested lightly on my shoulder, his tone playful."Want me to chase these annoying flies away for you?"I shook my head."No. I'll handle it myself."He raised an eyebrow, clearly interested in my response, but still stepped back and made a polite gesture.I went downsta

The next morning, Jonah left for work early. It didn't look like he planned to deal with the wedding anytime soon. That made sense. In my last life, Jonah never held a real wedding for Mona either. At most, our two families had a simple meal together. It wasn't even reported in the news.I fully prepared myself and headed out to the company, ready to watch the show.At nine in the morning, the entrance to our family company was already surrounded by people. A few troublemakers were blocking the door outright.A vicious-looking man waved a stick as he shouted, "When are you paying us back? If you don't pay today, we'll wreck this place!" Mona hid behind our father. After being pampered for two lifetimes, she was still a sheltered little princess. The hardest thing she had ever endured was probably marrying Jonah."Please give us a little more time," my father said, his tone so humble that it felt unfamiliar. As soon as he finished speaking, there was a sharp crack. The man hurle

The Whites' car was already waiting outside. I picked up my suitcase and looked back at the family of three inside the house. My father rubbed his temples in exhaustion, while my mother held Mona tightly, full of concern. However, from an angle our parents couldn't see, Mona flashed me a victorious smile.I watched the whole scene coldly.I sneered inwardly. What an idiot. Did she think stealing my path from my last life meant she would get a good ending in this one?In this life, I would let her experience firsthand what it really meant to live in hell. The Whites' estate was even more grand than I remembered. In my last life, after Mona married into the Whites, she had smugly bragged to me about how luxurious this place was.Back then, I was drowning in the company's cash flow crisis and didn't have the energy to care about her showing off.Now that I was standing here myself, I realized her descriptions hadn't even covered a sliver of it."We're here."The driver opened
