While waiting for the restaurant to finish an order, I mindlessly opened a short-video app to kill time.

Then, I heard a voice I knew all too well. I frowned and looked closer.

It was my ex-wife, Shanon Reich.

She was livestreaming with her influencer boyfriend, Tobias Hunt. Both of them were crying dramatically in front of the camera.

The stream title hit me like a punch to the gut.

[40°C Heat! My Daughter Is Trapped in a Car!]

I clicked in immediately, and there she was.

My three-year-old daughter, with Shanon, Ginny Herbert, was trapped inside the car, pounding helplessly against the window.

The inside of the vehicle looked like a furnace.

Ginny's little face was flushed bright red, sweat soaking her hair flat against her forehead.

She was crying and screaming inside the car. The desperation in her voice felt like knives twisting in my chest.

I clamped a hand over my mouth, forcing myself to stay calm.

Shanon, how dare she!

We were divorced for less than six months, yet already shacked up with that influencer. And now, she would risk her own daughter's life for views?

"Break the window! Hurry!" I typed with shaking fingers.

The comment section exploded.

"Call the police! The kid's going to get heatstroke!"

"What are you waiting for? It's 40 degrees! She's going to die!"

And Shanon's reaction? She laughed.

As the viewer count surged, she didn't smash the window, nor did she call for help.

Instead, she beamed at the camera.

"Thank you to our top fan for the moneybag gift!"

Then she added sweetly, "Send another moneybag. I'll smash the window once I get it, okay?"

Rage, despair, and terror crashed over me in waves, drowning me whole.

I called her over and over again. Once, twice, and thrice.

There was no answer.

The background of the livestream looked vaguely familiar, but I could not think. I immediately forwarded the stream into our food delivery riders' group chat.

Within moments, my coworker Richard Carrie replied.

"It's the parking lot behind Tahoma Street! Go! The kid looks like she's about to pass out!"

The second I saw the location, I ripped the delivery box off my scooter. The food spilled all over the ground.

The restaurant owner ran out, cursing.

"I'll pay you back later!" I shouted, already sprinting away.

Shanon better pray Ginny was okay.

Otherwise, I would have made sure she paid with her life.

Richard kept tagging me in the group chat.

The livestream footage was becoming harder and harder to watch.

Ginny almost stopped crying.

Her little face was turning a frightening purplish-red. Her tiny body curled up on the back seat, barely twitching.

And Shanon? She was still posing in front of the camera with her influencer boyfriend.

"Oh, we're anxious too!" she said coyly. "But the keys are locked inside the car! Don't worry, my dears! I'm her biological mother! How could I possibly let anything really happen to her?"

I ran like a madman, my heart hammering so hard it felt ready to burst out of my throat.

Tahoma Street. Damn it, why was this alley so long?

There!

I leaned on the horn and drove straight at Shanon, who was still livestreaming.

She fell to the ground from the impact, screaming in pain.

"Ahhh! Are you crazy? Do you even know how to drive?"

When she realized it was me, panic flashed across her face.

"Leomund Herbert! What are you trying to do?"

I ignored her and rushed to the car, slamming my palms against the window, shouting Ginny's name, hoping she would hear me and hold on.

Through the glass, I saw her small body collapsed across the back seat, completely motionless.

Ginny's tiny body dangled from Tobias's grip, swaying in midair. My heart felt like it was about to leap out of my throat. An officer shouted into his radio, "Team below! Get the safety cushion ready!"I yelled at Tobias, my voice shaking with desperation."Don't! Isn't this what you wanted? You wanted me to confess and withdraw the lawsuit? I'll do it! Just let my daughter go!"Tobias burst into arrogant laughter, his voice thick with malice."Bullshit! You jump first! Jump off the building, and I'll spare her!"The officer beside me grabbed me tightly, but I shoved him away and stepped toward the edge of the rooftop.I've made up my mind."I will. Just let her go."Tobias froze for a moment. He probably did not expect me to go that far for Ginny. In that split second, Shanon lunged forward and grabbed Ginny's leg.Tobias was already standing at the very edge. His footing slipped. He screamed as his body tilted backward."Ahhh!"A few seconds later, a dull, heavy thud e

I forced myself to stay calm and pressed, "Where's Ginny?"Shanon's casual tone made my chest tighten."Oh, she just fell asleep. Why are you so worked up? Relax. From now on, we'll make money together. That little girl pulls huge traffic."At that moment, I saw Tobias walk out of the abandoned factory.Ginny hung limply over his shoulder.Shanon followed behind him. Both of them wore smug smiles. They were just like criminals who thought they slipped free of the law. They actually believed that because I withdrew the lawsuit, they were safe. How ridiculous."Move in!"At the command, officers who were lying in wait surged forward like tigers, surrounding them instantly. The smile froze on Shanon's face. She stared in disbelief and screamed hysterically, "Leomund already confessed! You've arrested the wrong people!"The moment she saw me, she pointed at me, her finger shaking."You! You tricked me!"I ignored her meltdown. My eyes were fixed on Tobias. He was backing a

I was about to chase after them when an officer grabbed me."Mr. Herbert, don't panic. They're fugitives now. With this many surveillance cameras, they won't get far. We've already alerted the airport and all major transportation hubs. The little girl will be found."The police recorded Tobias's license plate number and brought me back to the station.Time crawled. Every second felt like torture.I kept refreshing my phone, desperate for any news about Ginny. Even a single photo would have been enough.I did not know how much time passed before a young officer finally rushed in."Mr. Herbert, we've tracked their location through the city surveillance system. They're near the most remote airport in Arguso!"The airport? Were they trying to flee the country with her?"Go! Hurry!" I shot to my feet, my heart pounding in my throat. The police cars sped toward the airport, sirens blaring. My pulse rose and fell with every wail of the siren. But when we arrived, all we found was t

In the video, Shanon appeared in heavy makeup, wearing a low-cut spaghetti-strap dress. The camera shifted.A small, frail figure was shoved into the back seat of a car.The door slammed shut with a loud bang.Shanon flashed a peace sign at the camera and pressed the lock button.…The courtroom exploded again."What?""Are you kidding me? They intentionally locked the kid in the car to livestream it?"Shanon and Tobias exchanged panicked glances.Tobias immediately began waving his hands."No! The video is fake! We've been framed!"Before he could finish, several eyewitnesses stepped forward. They had been there that day.I looked at them with silent gratitude.A middle-aged man pointed at the screen, furious."It was her! I saw her lock the kid in the car and start livestreaming!""That's right!" another person chimed in. "It was scorching hot! The child was screaming inside the car, and she didn't care at all!""We told her to let the child out immediately, and she

On the day of the hearing, the moment Shanon walked into the courtroom, she burst into tears, making it look as if I were the unforgivable villain. She sobbed about how I snatched her child and how I subjected her to emotional and physical torment. At the height of her performance, she even took out a handkerchief and delicately dabbed at tears that didn't exist.Watching her act made me sick. When Larry presented the photos of Ginny's injuries, Shanon immediately shot to her feet like a cat whose tail stepped on and pointed at me."Leomund! You fiend! She's your daughter! How could you hurt her like that?"Her scream was so dramatic that it tore through the courtroom. The gallery erupted instantly, with murmurs and insults flying everywhere. The judge had to bang the gavel repeatedly to restore order."Silence!" the judge barked. "Defendant, remain calm. You will speak when addressed."I forced myself to stay composed. I stared at Shanon coldly and asked, word by word."Are

I gripped my phone tightly, my brows furrowed.Ginny was living with people like this?I let out a cold laugh. "Tobias, right? Let me tell you something: your good days are over.""What?" he snapped.I said each word slowly, clearly, "I'm taking back custody of Ginny, and I'm going to make you both pay the price you deserve."Then I hung up and blocked every single one of her contact methods.I knew exactly what they wanted. They just wanted Ginny back so they could keep making money off her.Over the next few days, Shanon kept barking online: crying on camera, accusing me of every crime imaginable. She claimed I abused her and that I abused our child. Now, she said, I was smearing her name at all costs just to fight for custody. But I believed one thing: truth would prevail.I took a deep breath and urged the doctors to conduct a full-body examination on Ginny as soon as possible.
