Chapter 2

Author: Tranquil Phoenix
Whitney sped home after dropping Summer off at her house. She received a reply right after getting out of the car.

[I'll see you outside the courthouse in seven days.]

She smiled and put away her home. She entered the villa she had been sharing with Henry for the past five years. Everything looked the same as it did before she went into a coma. Their wedding picture was still hanging on the wall after eight years of marriage.

Whitney was smiling brightly in the picture, while Henry looked handsome and in high spirits. They were childhood sweethearts despite it being a marriage alliance. They had feelings for each other, and their wedding was known as a fairytale among their social circles.

Henry was a proud man who was willing to humble himself for Whitney. He would frequent clubs and bars, but gave them up after getting married.

Whitney had never cooked a day in her life, but learned to for Henry. Her fingers were eventually covered in blisters from being burned, yet she never complained.

If it were not for the accident, Henry would not have thought she would remain in a coma forever and found a substitute to comfort his pain. Could all of this have been avoided if the accident had not happened?

Whitney shook the thought out of her head. It was time to clear up everything in the house. "Mrs. Wagner, take the wedding photo off the wall and throw it away."

"But Mrs. Jordan, that's your favorite picture."

"It's not anymore." Whitney pointed in another direction. "You can throw those accessories away too."

"Mrs. Jordan, even though Mr. Jordan hasn't really been back to this villa since you were in a coma, things are different now that you're awake. You should try fighting for your marriage."

Whitney shook her head. "That isn't necessary."

Mrs. Wagner, the housekeeper, had no choice but to follow Whitney's instructions.

Whitney was feeling a little tired, and she was about to head upstairs for some rest when Henry returned. He barged into the house radiating fury, and Whitney knew that nothing good would be coming out of this.

Henry grabbed Whitney's arm the next second to accuse her, "You're such a scheming witch, Whitney! I thought you had changed after being in a coma for three years, but you're still as horrible as before! You placed a petal inside that envelope because you know that little Patrick is allergic to pollen. He's only a month old, and you already want him dead. Are you crazy?!"

"Allergic? What petal? What are you talking about?" Whitney flung his hand off her, remaining calm throughout. "I've always admitted to everything I've done, Henry. This is the first time I'm meeting this baby. How would I know that he's allergic to pollen? Even if I did, why would I leave behind evidence of my wrongdoing with that petal in the envelope?"

"That's because you're playing it smart with your scheme!" Henry refused to believe her, and it was like a stab to Whitney's heart.

"Believe what you want. I told you I didn't do it, and that's the truth." Whitney turned to walk away from him, but Henry's bodyguards stopped her. She was taken aback. "What are you doing?"

Henry's voice was cold, and he sounded like the devil. "I remember that you're allergic to peanut butter."

Whitney felt a chill in her heart, and she looked at him in disbelief. She had always been allergic to peanut butter, and even a small smidge of it would give her rashes all over and make her throat close up. In more serious cases, she would suffocate and pass out.

Henry knew this better than anyone else, which was why whenever they were out for their meals, he would remind the waiter over and over to make sure none of her dishes contained any peanut butter. "This is an eye for an eye. Lexie might be fine with letting this slide, but you've done something wrong, and you should have a taste of getting an allergic reaction."

The bodyguards pressed her down while the maid scooped up spoonfuls of peanut butter to push into her mouth.

Whitney tried her best not to swallow any, but the cold, sticky paste slid down her throat, and her allergic reaction came quickly. Rashes started to appear around her lips, and her throat started to close up. Whitney was finding it increasingly difficult to breathe. She sat limply on the ground, trying to grab Henry's arm weakly. "Hospital… Take me to the hospital… I feel horrible…"

Henry was unperturbed. All he did was stare coldly at her. "Now you know how it feels. Didn't you think about how Patrick would feel when you put that petal near him to trigger his allergy? I'll take you to the hospital right away if you admit your mistake."

Whitney curled up into a ball, feeling terrible and in despair, but she remained stubborn. "I told you… It wasn't me…"

"You refuse to learn, don't you, Whitney?! I thought you'd changed, but all you did was become worse than before!"

Henry walked away in anger, but the maid suddenly exclaimed, "Mr. Jordan, Mrs. Jordan has passed out!"

Henry kept yelling outside the door, as if he could stop Whitney from marrying another man if he shouted his objections with all his might, but Whitney ignored his yelling. All she did was look at the priest and answer with conviction, "I do."It broke Henry's heart, and he fell to the ground, sitting there while tears streamed down his face. "Why? Why would you marry him?""The groom may now kiss the bride," the priest announced, and Lucas lowered his head to kiss Whitney's soft lips. Everyone applauded, and the couple hugged each other as everyone shouted their blessings.Henry went crazy at the sight, and he tried to barge into the church. "Whitney!""Please leave, Mr. Jordan, or we'll be forced to take action against you."The bodyguards tried to hold him back, but Henry refused to budge. They had no choice but to resort to more violent measures. While they were punching Henry, Whitney was holding Lucas' arm, smiling as she accepted the blessing of her guests. "Whitney! I w

"She's marrying Mr. Grant today, and it's the attention of everyone citywide… I don't understand how Mrs. Jordan changed into another person in just a few short days. She used to love you so much…""Whitney isn't to blame." Henry looked up slowly. "This is all my fault. I shouldn't have been with another woman while she was in a coma. If she hadn't pushed me away in that car accident, I would have been the one in a coma. She saved my life, but I repaid her by sleeping with another woman. "I promised to break ties with that woman once Whitney woke up from her coma, but I did not keep the promise when I saw how indifferent Whitney was about my adulterous relationship. It never occurred to me that Whitney had been thinking about leaving me! I was stupid. I knew Whitney was never one to tolerate such situations."You should leave, Jake. The company has gone bankrupt, and you don't need to work for me anymore."Jake Lehman, his assistant, looked at him worriedly. "Are you alright being

Whitney thought about it for quite a while before finally getting the maids to invite Henry into the house. Henry was drenched, and the floor became covered in rainwater the moment he stepped inside. Whitney looked at him with disdain and got the maids to clean up the floor and give Henry a towel. She did not plan on letting him inside for a hot bath and a change of fresh clothes."I remember I still have several pieces of clothing left here. Can I have a hot bath here and change my clothes?""Those clothes have been thrown out long ago." Whitney did not expect him to make the request. "Also, I'm about to get married, so it isn't convenient for me to let you in for a hot bath."Henry stood silent for a long time. Whitney never used to be like this. She would always get anxious the moment he got slightly wet in the rain, but now, all she felt for him was disdain. "I don't know what I did to make you hate me so much, Whitney. I've told you before that what happened with Summer was j

"You don't need to visit me every day, Whitney. I'm feeling much better. I'm fine." Summer was not in a good place emotionally, and she stayed in bed every day, refusing to move. Her family had no idea that Summer lost her arm to save Whitney, and they felt grateful every time they saw Whitney at the hospital, lamenting about what a good friend she was.Whenever Whitney heard this, she would look at Summer's empty sleeve and start crying. "I'm sorry, Summer. If it weren't for me…""Don't be silly. This isn't your fault." Summer forced a smile at her. "I heard Lexie Fontaine is in prison now. That's great news. It's good enough to be considered revenge for both of us." "Five years in prison is letting her off too easily." Hate flashed in Whitney's eyes. "I won't let Henry get away with this either. Lucas has been planning ways to buy out his company. I'll get revenge on your behalf, Summer. I won't let them have it easy!""Stop beating yourself up about this. Have you forgotten tha

Whitney went to the hospital to visit Summer after visiting her mother, and Lucas volunteered to go with her. When they arrived outside Summer's hospital room, they bumped into Henry, who was there to see Summer as well.Henry had just left the police station. He had spent one night there after being arrested and was only allowed bail the next day. As for Lexie, she was not able to escape prison. In the dimly lit corridor, Henry saw Whitney hugging another man's arm right away. The sight hurt his eyes, and he quickly approached them to pull Whitney away from Lucas to stand right in front of him. "Do you know what you're doing, Whitney? Why are you clinging to another man in bright daylight?""Another man?" The look on Lucas' face changed as he reached out to pull Whitney back into his arms. "Are you talking about me, Mr. Jordan? Have you forgotten that you and Whitney are divorced, and she's now my wife? It's normal for a wife to hold onto her husband's arm."Henry looked at him an

The next day at the Sands', Whitney was sitting on the couch, watching television, while her mother, Diana, kept staring at her. It unsettled Whitney, and she turned off the television to look back at her mother. "Is there something you'd like to say to me, Mom?" Diana hesitated for quite a while before asking, "I heard you made a police report to have Henry arrested. Is that true? What about that post you made on social media? Have you really divorced Henry and married Lucas Grant instead?" It shocked Diana to see the post online, especially when Whitney and Henry had been married for years, and it was doubtful that things between them could get so serious. "It's true that I called the police about him, but he's pretty resourceful to have avoided prison, hasn't he?" Whitney's eyes narrowed as a cold look flashed in them. "He should consider it lucky that I didn't make him and Lexie Fontaine pay for what they did to Summer with their lives.""So, it's true that Summer's arm was
