Chapter 3

Author: Tranquil Phoenix
"Whitney!"

Before Whitney passed out, she saw Henry running toward her and picking her up from the ground, holding her in his arms. He looked scared and anxious, but Whitney no longer felt anything for him.

When she woke up next, Whitney heard a woman crying beside her. "You don't need to do this, Henry. Patrick might be your son, but Mrs. Jordan is the woman you love. It must hurt for you to torture her like this."

"Don't be silly. I won't let anyone who hurts our son get away so easily, and that includes Whitney. She may be the woman I love, but she's not allowed to do anything like this."

Whitney opened her eyes, feeling thirsty and her throat still throbbing with pain. She did not look at Henry, but at the nurse standing at the side. "Can I trouble you for a glass of water?"

"You're awake, Whitney." Henry immediately took the glass of water from the nurse's hand when he heard her voice, and he held it to Whitney's lips. However, she refused to let him feed her the water, and she took the glass from his hand instead to drink from it. It was only when the cool liquid flowed down her throat that she finally felt slightly better.

"Are you all right, Mrs. Jordan? You've been unconscious for a full day and night, and Henry was so worried that he didn't even visit Patrick after he woke up. Please don't hurt him again, Mrs. Jordan. He's still a baby and poses no threat to you."

That was when Whitney turned to look at Lexie. Even though she knew of Lexie's existence after waking up from her coma, she had never taken a clear look at the woman. Whitney realized that Lexie did look quite similar to her, but Lexie's personality was different.

Lexie looked like a fragile little thing that bordered on annoying, but men loved women like her. They loved being the hero for a woman like her who always played victim.

Whitney put the glass down and said nonchalantly, "I put that money into the envelope at the hotel's counter in the lobby. There are surveillance cameras from the counter to the elevators, and all the way to the party venue. You can check the surveillance footage to find out for sure if I was the one who put the petal in there."

Lexie turned pale at Whitney's words, and Henry frowned. "Haven't you done enough damage? Who else would do something like that besides you? Do you actually think Lexie framed you by doing it? That's her son lying in the hospital!"

Whitney retorted with a smile, "It was just a passing remark. Why are you being so worked up over it? I never said Ms. Fontaine was the one who did it."

Henry got angry. "Whitney Sands!"

"Mrs. Jordan, Henry, please stop fighting because of me. Maybe I shouldn't have come here. I'll go back to take care of Patrick." Lexie turned to leave with tears in her eyes, and it hurt Henry to see her that way. He wanted to go after her.

"We should stop fighting, Whitney. Patrick just woke up, and I…"

Whitney did not stop him. "Go ahead. The baby doesn't feel well, and he needs his father the most right now."

Henry thought Whitney was just saying angry words, but the look in her eyes was calm, almost like she was dead inside, and she really did not seem mad at all. Yet, the more she acted like this, the more unsettled he felt. "Whitney, something hasn't been right with you since you woke up. Are you worried that I wouldn't want you anymore now that I have Patrick and Lexie? You shouldn't let your imagination run wild. You'll always be my only wife."

It only made Whitney despise him further for acting as if he loved her a lot, but she continued smiling. "I know you'll always want to do the right thing, Henry. Now that Ms. Fontaine has your baby, it's only right that you take care of her. I won't hold anything against you for that, and you don't need to worry about my imagination running wild. That won't happen to me because I've already thought things through."

Whitney had thought things through and wanted to leave Henry.

"Really?" Henry questioned in a low voice as he tried to gauge Whitney's stand on this. "I don't want you pretending to be generous in front of us while secretly trying to cause Patrick harm, Whitney. It would only make me hate you more."

"I'm tired." Whitney did not want to continue wasting time with him, and she pulled the covers over her head to continue sleeping. After Henry left, she called the hotel right away. "I'd like to get some surveillance footage from you."

The hotel responded very soon with a clip of the footage that proved that Whitney never included any flower petals in the envelope. However, it did show Lexie picking a petal from the corridor while Henry was not looking, and placing it into the envelope.

Whitney forwarded the clip to Henry right away with the message: [Evidence that I did not do it.]

She no longer cared what Henry thought of her, but that did not mean she would admit to something she had not done.

Henry kept yelling outside the door, as if he could stop Whitney from marrying another man if he shouted his objections with all his might, but Whitney ignored his yelling. All she did was look at the priest and answer with conviction, "I do."It broke Henry's heart, and he fell to the ground, sitting there while tears streamed down his face. "Why? Why would you marry him?""The groom may now kiss the bride," the priest announced, and Lucas lowered his head to kiss Whitney's soft lips. Everyone applauded, and the couple hugged each other as everyone shouted their blessings.Henry went crazy at the sight, and he tried to barge into the church. "Whitney!""Please leave, Mr. Jordan, or we'll be forced to take action against you."The bodyguards tried to hold him back, but Henry refused to budge. They had no choice but to resort to more violent measures. While they were punching Henry, Whitney was holding Lucas' arm, smiling as she accepted the blessing of her guests. "Whitney! I w

"She's marrying Mr. Grant today, and it's the attention of everyone citywide… I don't understand how Mrs. Jordan changed into another person in just a few short days. She used to love you so much…""Whitney isn't to blame." Henry looked up slowly. "This is all my fault. I shouldn't have been with another woman while she was in a coma. If she hadn't pushed me away in that car accident, I would have been the one in a coma. She saved my life, but I repaid her by sleeping with another woman. "I promised to break ties with that woman once Whitney woke up from her coma, but I did not keep the promise when I saw how indifferent Whitney was about my adulterous relationship. It never occurred to me that Whitney had been thinking about leaving me! I was stupid. I knew Whitney was never one to tolerate such situations."You should leave, Jake. The company has gone bankrupt, and you don't need to work for me anymore."Jake Lehman, his assistant, looked at him worriedly. "Are you alright being

Whitney thought about it for quite a while before finally getting the maids to invite Henry into the house. Henry was drenched, and the floor became covered in rainwater the moment he stepped inside. Whitney looked at him with disdain and got the maids to clean up the floor and give Henry a towel. She did not plan on letting him inside for a hot bath and a change of fresh clothes."I remember I still have several pieces of clothing left here. Can I have a hot bath here and change my clothes?""Those clothes have been thrown out long ago." Whitney did not expect him to make the request. "Also, I'm about to get married, so it isn't convenient for me to let you in for a hot bath."Henry stood silent for a long time. Whitney never used to be like this. She would always get anxious the moment he got slightly wet in the rain, but now, all she felt for him was disdain. "I don't know what I did to make you hate me so much, Whitney. I've told you before that what happened with Summer was j

"You don't need to visit me every day, Whitney. I'm feeling much better. I'm fine." Summer was not in a good place emotionally, and she stayed in bed every day, refusing to move. Her family had no idea that Summer lost her arm to save Whitney, and they felt grateful every time they saw Whitney at the hospital, lamenting about what a good friend she was.Whenever Whitney heard this, she would look at Summer's empty sleeve and start crying. "I'm sorry, Summer. If it weren't for me…""Don't be silly. This isn't your fault." Summer forced a smile at her. "I heard Lexie Fontaine is in prison now. That's great news. It's good enough to be considered revenge for both of us." "Five years in prison is letting her off too easily." Hate flashed in Whitney's eyes. "I won't let Henry get away with this either. Lucas has been planning ways to buy out his company. I'll get revenge on your behalf, Summer. I won't let them have it easy!""Stop beating yourself up about this. Have you forgotten tha

Whitney went to the hospital to visit Summer after visiting her mother, and Lucas volunteered to go with her. When they arrived outside Summer's hospital room, they bumped into Henry, who was there to see Summer as well.Henry had just left the police station. He had spent one night there after being arrested and was only allowed bail the next day. As for Lexie, she was not able to escape prison. In the dimly lit corridor, Henry saw Whitney hugging another man's arm right away. The sight hurt his eyes, and he quickly approached them to pull Whitney away from Lucas to stand right in front of him. "Do you know what you're doing, Whitney? Why are you clinging to another man in bright daylight?""Another man?" The look on Lucas' face changed as he reached out to pull Whitney back into his arms. "Are you talking about me, Mr. Jordan? Have you forgotten that you and Whitney are divorced, and she's now my wife? It's normal for a wife to hold onto her husband's arm."Henry looked at him an

The next day at the Sands', Whitney was sitting on the couch, watching television, while her mother, Diana, kept staring at her. It unsettled Whitney, and she turned off the television to look back at her mother. "Is there something you'd like to say to me, Mom?" Diana hesitated for quite a while before asking, "I heard you made a police report to have Henry arrested. Is that true? What about that post you made on social media? Have you really divorced Henry and married Lucas Grant instead?" It shocked Diana to see the post online, especially when Whitney and Henry had been married for years, and it was doubtful that things between them could get so serious. "It's true that I called the police about him, but he's pretty resourceful to have avoided prison, hasn't he?" Whitney's eyes narrowed as a cold look flashed in them. "He should consider it lucky that I didn't make him and Lexie Fontaine pay for what they did to Summer with their lives.""So, it's true that Summer's arm was
