Se connecterLena expected tension the moment she stepped into the house.
Her mind had already played out different scenarios: Richard questioning her, suspicion in his eyes, maybe even anger. After all, she had spent the night out.
But none of that happened.
“Babe,” Richard said casually, walking up to her and placing a light peck on her lips, like everything was okay.
The ease in his tone irritated her more.
“You don’t care to know where I was?” she asked.
“Of course I do,” he replied smoothly.
She folded her arms. “Really?”
“Jayden called this morning,” he added. “He told me he was with you, so I knew you were okay.”
Lena blinked.
“Oh.”
“Wait… where did you sleep?”
Richard hesitated.
For the first time, he looked scared to face her.
“I… uh…” his gaze dropped briefly, like he couldn’t meet her eyes.
That was enough.
“Really?” Lena scoffed, brushing past him without waiting for an answer.
Something inside her died instantly.
Later that afternoon, Lena sat quietly in the living room, her thoughts running wild. Richard was on the couch, watching TV like nothing had happened.
Jayden walked in.
His presence alone shifted the air.
“I want to go out with Lena this evening,” he said, voice calm but firm.
Lena’s head snapped up slightly.
Richard barely reacted.
He simply glanced at Jayden, then back at the TV.
“Okay.”
That was it.
Jayden frowned slightly. “You’re not going to ask where we’re going?”
Richard shrugged. “Why? I know she’s in good hands. Besides, it’s a win if my girlfriend and my son get along, don’t you think?”
Jayden let out a dry laugh. “Yeah… right.”
Lena watched the exchange carefully, something about it unsettling her.
“Where are we going?” she asked later, standing beside Jayden as he unlocked the car.
“You’ll see.”
“Can you give me a hint at least?”
He glanced at her, a small smile forming. “You’re so curious.”
“I need to know if you’re planning to kidnap me,” she teased lightly.
Jayden’s smirk deepened. “If I wanted that, do you think I’d ask for your permission?”
She huffed. “Fair enough.”
When they arrived, Lena stared.
“A park?” she burst out laughing. “Seriously? A park?”
Jayden just leaned against the car, watching her reaction with a quiet smile.
“What?” he asked.
“I expected something… I don’t know… more dramatic.”
“Not everything has to be dramatic, Lena.”
She shook her head, still smiling. “You’re unbelievable.”
Surprisingly, she had real fun, which she hadn't felt in a long time.
It was more like reliving her teenage era.
They walked around, talking about random things, laughing at nothing in particular. It felt good.
At one point, a woman approached them with a little boy.
“Excuse me,” the woman said warmly, “can you help us take a picture?”
“Sure,” Jayden replied, taking the phone.
As Lena stood Aside, the little boy looked at her.
“Are you guys together?” he asked innocently, pointing at Jayden.
Lena froze for a second.
Jayden glanced over, clearly amused.
“No,” she said quickly, forcing a smile. “We’re not.”
“Really?” the boy frowned. “Then why were you guys standing so close like in movies?” he said innocently. “My dad only stands like that when he wants to kiss my mom.”
Jayden chuckled under his breath.
Lena shot him a look. Her cheeks flushed softly.
Ben!” the woman called, pulling him gently. “Don’t say that.”
She looked at Lena apologetically. “I’m so sorry;he just talks a lot.”
Lena shook her head with a soft smile. “It’s fine.
But as Jayden handed the phone back, still clearly amused.
She avoided looking at him, knowing exactly why he was smiling.
"Weirdo," she muttered under her breath, smiling.
They moved on after that, the moment lingering awkwardly for only a second before it faded.
Soon, they found themselves at the playground center.
“Let’s ride that,” Jayden said, pointing at a rollercoaster.
Lena’s eyes widened. “You’re joking right?”
“Afraid?”
“Please,” she scoffed. “I’m not scared.”
Minutes later, she was screaming.
Jayden laughed the entire ride.
When it ended, she stumbled out, breathless.
“I hate you,” she muttered.
“You loved it,” he corrected.
She didn’t argue.
They got ice cream afterward, walking side by side.
At one point, a bit of ice cream smeared at the corners of her lips. Without warning, he reached out, his thumb dragging lightly across her lip, his eyes never leaving hers.
Lena’s breath caught.
“Careful,” he murmured.
She nodded.
They passed by a game stall where people were trying to win prizes.
Jayden stopped.
“I want to try.”
Lena raised a brow. “You sure, you can play?”
He glanced at her. “You doubt me?”
“Very much,” she teased. “All muscles, no skill.”
Jayden grabbed her hand suddenly, pulling her toward the stall.
“Let’s fix that.”
The contact sent a small spark through her.
She didn’t pull away.
Minutes later, he won.
He turned to her, holding out a soft teddy bear.
“For you.”
Lena blinked, “for me.”
Jason placed a hand over his chest and prostrated himself. “Yes, milady," he said.
She smiled softly, taking it.
By the time night fell, the park was quiet.
Jayden drove her to a private place where the bright city lights were shining, the breeze soft and calming.
“It’s beautiful,” Lena whispered.
“I come here when I need to think,” he said. “When things get heated.”
She glanced at him.
For once, he looked vulnerable.
The silence between them stretched.
Jayden stepped closer.
And slowly his hand found her waist, pulling her just enough to close the distance between them.
Lena’s breath hitched.
“Jayden…”
But she didn’t step back.
His other hand lifted, brushing gently along her cheek before resting at the side of her neck.
Her pulse raced.
Then he kissed her gently.
When she didn’t pull away, he deepened the kiss.
Her fingers curled into his shirt, holding onto him as the moment intensified, heat building, emotions spilling over.
Everything felt so perfect.
They pulled apart slowly, breaths uneven.
“Are you happy with him?” Jayden asked quietly.
Lena blinked, still dazed. “What?”
“My dad,” he said. “Are you happy?”
She didn't respond.
“You deserve better,” he added.
A small, sad smile touched her lips. “Are you any better?”
Jayden didn’t smile.
“I haven’t seen anyone since I met you,” he said seriously. “It's not a game with you.”
Her heart skipped.
“I know this is wrong,” he continued. “But I’d fight the whole world for you.”
Tears filled her eyes before she could stop them.
“Jayden”
She stepped back slightly, shaking her head.
“I love your father,” she said softly.
Her voice trembled as she continued.
“He wasn’t like this before. He was caring.”
She took a shaky breath.
“I met him when everything in my life was falling apart. I had nothing. No job. I Lost my mom. I was broken.”
Jayden stayed quiet, listening.
“My card declined at a grocery store,” she said, letting out a weak laugh. “I was so embarrassed. He helped me. Didn’t ask for anything in return.”
Her eyes grew distant.
“Then I met him again when my ex was hurting me. He stepped in. Took me away from all of it.”
She swallowed hard.
“He gave me a place to stay. Helped me finish school. Gave me a job. He made me.”
Jayden’s expression softened.
“I owe him everything,” she whispered.
He stepped closer, gently cupping her face in his hands.
“That doesn’t mean he owns you,” he said softly. “You’re free to choose what your heart wants.”
A tear slipped down her cheek.
“Thank you,” she mouthed.
He pulled her into a soft embrace.
The ride back was quiet.
Lena stared out the window, her mind a storm of emotions.
She knew the truth that
she loved Richard.
But somehow she was falling for Jayden too.
And that was a disaster; she couldn't believe how she got in the mess in the beginning.
The ride back felt longer than it should have.Lena sat by the window, her reflection faint against the glass as city lights blurred past. Her fingers were still curled loosely around the teddy bear Jayden had won for her.So when she returned home that night, they went straight to their different rooms, not before sharing a goodnight kiss. Smiles on their faces as they enter their separate rooms. She assumed Richard wasn’t back yet. After a quick shower, she changed into her silk nightwear. The lights were dim; walking close to the bed, she sights Richard on the bed.Lying on his side of the bed like he had no worry in this world.Lena paused for a moment, watching him.For some reason, seeing him like that softened something in her chest. She quietly got into bed, careful not to wake him.The mattress dipped slightly.Richard shifted almost immediately.“Lena…” he murmured softly. Before she could respond, his arm found its way around her waist, pulling her closer in his sleepy stat

Morning came quietly, but Lena woke with a feeling she couldn't understand. For a few seconds, she just lay there, staring at the ceiling. She thought about Jayden. She groaned softly and sat up. “Get a grip,” she muttered under her breath. The house felt lonely.Lena walked downstairs slowly, expecting to hear something from Jayden, his voice, anything. But nothing. She eventually found him in the kitchen. He wasn’t shirtless this time. Fully dressed. He stood by the counter, scrolling through his phone, barely acknowledging her presence. That alone felt… off.“Morning,” she said, her voice cautious.Jayden looked up briefly. “Morning.”That was it.No teasing, smirk. Or lingering glance.Just… normal.Lena frowned slightly. “You’re up early.”He looked up slowly. "Yeah," he said. She shifted awkwardly, suddenly unsure of what to say. This wasn’t the Jayden she met.The silence was disturbing.A few moments passed before he spoke again.“About yesterday…”Lena looked up immediatel
The next day Lena woke up as she heard her phone ring.Hello, yeah, who is this?"Uhm, are you Miss Lena?" a male voice asked.Yeah... how may I help you?Yesterday we arrested Jadyden Blake for reckless driving while drunk. What! She said as she almost gagged. How? He didn't leave the house, did he?So he gave us your number; you need to come over and bail him. I will see you at the address."Right, I'm on my way; give me some minutes," I say as the call ends.I can't believe this. How many problems does he want to bring to me?I should call Richard...or maybe not; he's probably busy since he has not called me today. She locks the door and waits for the taxi.Locating the station wasn't difficult; reaching there, she sighted an officer on the counter.Hello, please. I'm here to bail someone. She saidHe asked for her ID, and then she paid the bail amount. What's the name?Lenna QuinnHe gives her a quizzical look. Is that the person's name?"Oh, sorry," she says, embarrassed, Jayden.
While it was just a simple conversation, his personality confuses her. This version of Jayden didn’t match the one she had seen on the first day; he seemed more like a Playboy type, not a sweet guy who takes a girl out for a cozy date.“You’re quiet; what's wrong?" he said suddenly, stirring his drink.Lena looked up. “Maybe I just don’t have anything to say to you.”“Lying doesn't suit you; your expression gives you away."Her brows lifted slightly. "You think you know me?”“You’ve been thinking,” he said, leaning back in his chair. “I can tell.”She looked away, taking a sip of her drink to avoid answering. He wasn’t wrong. That was the problem.By the time they left, the sun had gone lower, casting a soft orange glow across the streets. The walk back to the car made her feel uneasy knowing they were about to be alone at home together.Lena wasn’t paying attention to where she was stepping until her foot caught slightly on the uneven pavement. Before she could react, Jayden’s hand c
Sleep didn’t come easy. Lena lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling as her mind wandered, replaying the events of the day; it replayed in her mind like a stubborn loop. Every time she shut her eyes, she saw him, Jayden. His shirtless body, the confidence that he carries, feels like the world bent to his will.It irritated her.She turned to her side with a frustrated sigh, pulling the duvet closer to her body. Why am I even thinking about him? She muttered quietly. She had come here to spend time with Richard. For peace. Not for… whatever this was.By the time morning came, she had barely slept.Sunlight filtered through the curtains, soft and golden, stretching across the room. Lena groaned softly, rubbing her eyes before sitting up. Her head was banging.“Great,” she whispered. “First day here and I already feel like shit.”She pushed herself out of bed and headed to the bathroom, hoping a cold splash of water would help. After a quick shower, she stood in front of her open suitcas
