Chapter 2

Author: Linden White
Two bodyguards dragged me into a suite in the mountaintop villa and threw me roughly onto the floor.

The moment I saw what was in the room, my stomach dropped.

Everywhere I looked, there were items meant for things no one should ever be forced into.

Something was very, very wrong.

I pushed myself up with everything I had and stumbled toward the door, slamming my fists against it.

"Let me out! Now!"

One of the guards outside snapped back, clearly annoyed.

"Shut up! Stop wasting your energy and stay put! Take a good look at yourself. Mr. Lawson doesn't even care about you anymore. Do you still think you're his precious little sister?"

Rage burned through me.

"I'm part of the Lawson family! If anything happens to me, none of you are getting away with it! My parents will never let you off!"

That seemed to shake them a little. One of the guards lowered his voice and called Sean. "Mr. Lawson, something's not right with Ms. Lawson. She looks seriously terrified. Should we…"

On the other end, Sean sounded confused.

"What do you mean not right? The fifteen million dollars was something I arranged with Mr. Harris in advance. He wouldn't dare to do anything to her. It's just for show, to scare her a little."

After a pause, his tone softened slightly. "Maybe open the door and check what's going on inside."

However, before the guard could respond, Wendy's voice came through the phone, soft and aggrieved.

"Sean, Kelly is really good at pretending to be pitiful. Don't fall for it. If you don't teach her a lesson this time, what if she tries to hurt me again?"

Seeing how shaken Wendy sounded, Sean's hesitation disappeared.

After a brief silence, his voice turned icy.

"Do what Wendy says. Keep the door locked. She won't die."

The call ended. The guards ignored my cries after that. My last bit of hope shattered completely.

If I could not get out, then at least I could not let myself be humiliated.

Struggling to my feet, I tried to grab a lighter and set fire to a stack of newspapers, hoping to trigger the smoke alarm. However, my hands and feet had been tied for too long. I could not even pick up something as small as a lighter.

Despair closed in around me. I curled up in the corner, my vision blurring as consciousness slowly slipped away.

Just as I was about to pass out, the door suddenly swung open.

A greasy-looking man in his forties walked in, his beer belly leading the way. His eyes crawled over me with a sickening grin.

I shrank back, my voice shaking. "Who are you?"

He chuckled, the sound making my skin crawl.

"That doesn't matter. What matters is your dear cousin paid me a nice sum to take good care of you. She said Mr. Lawson doesn't care about you anymore, so I can do whatever I want."

"Get away from me!"

I struggled with everything I had, but he overpowered me easily.

Tears streamed down my face, unstoppable.

Then, through the haze, a memory surfaced.

When I was little, I was chased by the neighbor's big dog. I was so scared I could only cry.

Sean had rushed over without hesitation, shielding me behind him and driving the dog away. He carried me home on his back, comforting me the whole way.

"Don't be scared, Kelly. I'll protect you from now on. I won't let anyone harm you ever again."

His words still echoed in my ears.

However, the one who abandoned me… He was the same brother who once promised to protect me for the rest of my life.

I closed my eyes, and my heart went completely still.

After that, Sean completely lost his mind. He chased after my spirit, calling my name over and over."Kelly! Don't go! Please don't leave me!"People on the street stared at him like he was crazy, but he did not care. He ran after something that was not even there, all the way to what used to be the Lawson Group building. He rushed up to the rooftop. Then, he spread his arms, a strange sense of relief on his face."Kelly, I'm coming to be with you."With that, he jumped. From a hundred meters up, he fell straight down.I slowly closed my eyes. I felt myself growing lighter, more transparent, until I finally faded into nothing.…I did not know how much time passed. When I opened my eyes again, I found myself lying in a cradle.I had become a baby.A young man and woman stood nearby, looking at me with nothing but love in their eyes."Our baby's awake. Come here, let Mommy hold you."The woman gently picked me up. The man leaned closer and lightly tapped my nose."Our littl

Perhaps his obsession had grown too strong.I gathered every bit of strength I had left. For the first time, I appeared clearly in front of him, not as a memory, but as a soul.He was in my room, holding my photo. The moment I appeared, he looked up in disbelief."Kelly!"He called my name, his voice hoarse, stumbling toward me as if he could pull me back into the world. He reached out, trying to hold me tight. However, his hands passed straight through me, through nothing but cold air.He froze. The smile on his face slowly faded."Kelly, why… Why can't I touch you?"I hovered in the air, looking down at him without emotion."Sean, that's because I'm dead."He collapsed onto the floor, breaking down completely."I'm sorry, Kelly. It's all my fault. Hit me. Yell at me. Do anything you want. Just, please… Forgive me, okay? I'll give you my life. If you can come back, I'll die right now."I watched him beg, so small, so desperate, and felt nothing. His life meant nothing to m

Sean ran out of the police station. He sped all the way back to the villa, driving like he had lost his mind.My spirit followed close behind him.He stormed inside, grabbed the manager by the collar, his eyes bloodshot."The cleaner. The old woman who begged me to save someone. Where is she?"The manager was so scared his legs nearly gave out. He pointed shakily toward the staff quarters.Sean found the old woman. The moment she saw him, her eyes filled with tears. "Mr. Lawson, that girl… She…""She's my sister!"Sean grabbed her hands, his voice breaking as he questioned her again and again."What was she like back then? What did she say? Tell me. Please, just tell me!"The old woman sobbed uncontrollably. "That poor child… She said… 'Please help me'… I went to find you, but your assistant wouldn't allow it. He said you wanted Ms. Roberts to enjoy herself."Later, the doctor found her and called you. You said… You said she wouldn't die, and told her to stop bothering you…"

Sean was out shopping with Wendy, helping her pick out luxury items she would need for Halvard University. The moment he heard my name from the police officer, the smile on his face froze. However, just as quickly, his expression turned impatient."Where did she even find you people? Actors? What new trick is she trying this time to get my sympathy? Tell Kelly I'm tired of her games. She can stop bothering me now."He did not give the officer any chance to explain before hanging up.Wendy stood beside him, her voice soft and concerned."Sean… What if something really did happen?"Sean reached out and ruffled her hair, his tone full of certainty."Relax. She's full of schemes. There's no way she'd actually put herself in real danger. This is just another way to force me to give in and bring her back."I won't let her get what she wants. Let her suffer out there a little longer. Maybe then she'll learn not to pick on you again."My spirit hovered in the air, watching him calmly.
