Chapter 1

Author: Walnut
Memories of every little moment she shared with Jameson flooded her mind.

Jameson was the genius young heir of the Hart family, the richest in South City, while Camille Fields was just a village girl from the mountains.

One summer at the age of 17, she found Jameson after he had fallen off a cliff. She had never seen someone so handsome and refined.

Camille brought him back to her home and took care of him.

When he woke up, he was blind and had lost his memory. He stayed at her house for over a year, and only after regaining his memory did he contact the Hart family with her help.

Jameson confessed his love to her, asking her to return to the Hart family with him and promising to stay by her side for the rest of his life.

Camille was so overwhelmed with emotion that she followed him to South City without a second thought.

It was only later that she learned that Jameson’s fall was not an accident.

His ex-girlfriend, Sylvia Gray, had taken him on a hiking trip. Jameson fell off the cliff while trying to save her.

Yet Sylvia told no one about this accident. When she got home, she immediately packed and left the country.

When Jameson returned to South City, he was still blind. Because of that, the Hart family was preparing to choose another heir.

Camille was worried he would not be able to handle the blow.

However, he held her hand tightly and smiled as he said, “As long as I have you, Camille, nothing else matters.”

Camille studied day and night in college because of this promise, even agreeing to take experimental drugs. Eventually, she restored Jameson’s sight.

The moment he could see, he hugged her tightly and vowed never to let her down.

After regaining his sight, Jameson returned to his position as the heir of the Hart family.

Everyone said that his status was too noble for him to be with a village girl like Camille, who still had an accent when she spoke.

However, Jameson cherished her like a treasure. Anyone who dared to speak ill of Camille in front of him would see him turn against them.

He showed everyone with his actions and words that he loved Camille with all his heart.

Over time, everyone believed it. Camille also believed in it deeply.

That was until three months ago, when Sylvia returned.

After adding her as a friend, Sylvia often sent Camille messages, talking about how good Jameson had been to her in the past.

Camille could not be bothered. Those things were in the past, and now, Jameson treated her even better.

However, at this moment, Jameson had dropped everything without hesitation for a phone call and gone to find Sylvia.

He did not even remember to call the hospital to verify the supposed cancer diagnosis.

Camille had clearly shown Jameson the message Sylvia sent her three days ago. He told her that Sylvia was just trying to get her attention and that she should not worry about it.

She had not worried about it.

What about Jameson?

Camille curled up in the blanket as though she was waiting for some kind of verdict. She did not know how much time had passed when her phone buzzed twice.

A message from an unknown number with a video popped up. Camille slowly reached for it and tapped it open.

Jameson’s familiar voice came through, trembling slightly, “Sylvia…”

Sylvia threw herself into his arms, tilting her head to kiss him. “Jameson, I’m dying. Please don’t push me away…”

The video cut off, but the sound of their ragged breathing still played.

Camille knew his voice by heart. It was etched into her very bones. She could not possibly be wrong.

At that moment, all hope left her. She shut her eyes as silent tears slipped down her face.

She took her phone and sent a message: [Mr. Zach, I agree to go abroad with you to further my studies.]

Jameson had betrayed the promise they once made.

Camille was done with him.

“Can I come see you? Let’s talk in person.”Camille did not hesitate. “That's unnecessary. My answer won’t change, no matter whether we're in front of each other or not.”Jameson was not ready to give up. “Then I’ll wait until you come back. I’ll pursue you all over again. This time, I’ll do it right. I’ll make sure all of South City… The whole country—no, the entire world knows how much I love you. I just—”Camille interrupted calmly, “I’m sorry, Jameson. But I’ve found so many meaningful things in life now. I’m not looking for a relationship anymore. There’s no reason for us to stay in touch.”With that, she hung up. She did not hear him calling her name again and again on the other end.Jameson stared at his phone as the call ended, the beeping tone cutting through the silence. He sat still for a long time before finally clutching his chest and letting out a guttural cry of pain. It was too much. He did not want to process it. He could not.He stormed out of the house and drov

Even though it was Ryan who had arranged the study trip abroad, he had not set any fixed schedule or itinerary. When Ryan received an urgent call from home and had to return to the country, Camille chose to stay behind. He did not stop her. In fact, he fully supported the decision. He had always believed that seeing more patients would help a doctor sharpen their skills.Hence, Camille stayed overseas with two other highly gifted doctors. Together, they continued traveling, treating patients, and taking in the vast beauty of the world. After witnessing the grandeur of nature and the fragility and preciousness of human life, their outlooks grew calmer and more grounded. At first, when Camille had just gone abroad, she often found herself having to force out smiles, and they always turned out hideous. She was mostly quiet. However, her natural smile slowly returned over time. She began to take pleasure in watching flowers bloom and birds fly. She admired the mountains and rivers.

Jameson had not slept or eaten in over a day. He had been working non-stop until the moment before his flight. However, when he arrived at the hospital where Camille was supposed to be, after all the trouble he went through, she was already gone. It hit him like a bolt of lightning, and he shook his head violently. “No way. Camille isn’t dead. She’s not!”He grabbed the person in front of him with alarming strength. “Where did she go?”The man replied, “Dr. Fields was only temporarily here to assist. She’s not with Doctors Without Borders. She left with her mentor, Dr. Zach. They went to practice medicine elsewhere.”He exhaled in relief, but the news only made him more anxious. “Do you know where they went?”The man did not know.Still, it was good as long as she was alive and as long as nothing bad had happened to her. Jameson was not afraid of anything else. For a moment there, when he thought something had happened to her and she might be dead, he truly understood what desp

After spending a huge sum of money and countless hurdles, Jameson finally managed to get his hands on a photo of Camille. In the photo, she was wearing a white coat in a makeshift hospital. Her long hair was cut into a neat shoulder-length style. She looked clean and tidy, and her eyes were clear. He gazed greedily at the face he had been longing for day and night. Ever since she left, he had been dreaming of her every night. However, each time, he would relive the day at the cemetery when Sylvia dropped the urn that contained the ashes of Camille's grandmother and he had chosen to stand by her.Her eyes...Her eyes, again and again, jolted Jameson awake. In those eyes, he clearly saw that she had completely lost faith in him. Each time he woke from the nightmare, his heart felt like it was being torn apart. He regretted it deeply. Why had he not noticed it back then? If he had chosen to stand by her side instead, if he had stayed and helped her collect her grandmother’s remai

  • A Heart For Nothing   Chapter 10

Jameson knew that if he corrected all his mistakes now, if he genuinely made up for how badly he had hurt Camille, and if he showed her his sincerity, there was still a chance Camille might come back to him. However, once Sylvia gave birth, that chance would be gone forever. He looked Margaret in the eye and said firmly, “I don’t want the child Sylvia is carrying. I’m still young. If I want a kid, I can have one anytime.”Yet Margaret was not so easily convinced. “You just want to get Camille back, don’t you? You only want a child if it’s with her. But what if that’s not possible? What if she never takes you back? Then what? Will you leave the Hart family with no heir?”That possibility that Camille might never forgive him hit Jameson hard, and his face twisted in pain. After a long silence, he finally said, “I’ll bring her back. I’ll marry her, and we’ll have a child together.”Margaret pressed further, sharp as ever, “And if she won’t come back? What if you do find her and she

On the other hand, Camille had followed Ryan and joined the Doctors Without Borders, heading straight into a war-torn country. There, violence raged on, and wounded civilians were everywhere. The local hospital was severely under-equipped. There was barely any medicine, and the staff were stretched thin.Their team had barely arrived when a series of car accidents triggered by nearby bombings sent a flood of emergency patients to the hospital. There were not enough ambulances. The locals carried the injured on stretchers, desperately trying to get them to help.Without a second to think, Camille jumped right in with the team to help. She did surgery after surgery, saving patient after patient. By the time she stumbled out of the operating room, more than a dozen hours had passed. Her legs were shaking, and her arms ached so badly it was hard to lift them. Even eating was painful. She was not used to the local food, but she was so hungry she did not care. All she could think abou

Something suddenly hit Jameson, and he bolted for home like a madman.Sylvia tried to stop him. “Jameson…”He shoved her aside. “Get out of my way!”She fell to the ground from the force of it.Jameson did not even look back, sprinting home at full speed. The elders of the Hart family had never liked Camille. They thought she was not good enough for Jameson. So, he bought apartments near her university and near the hospital where she worked, choosing to live with her in places convenient for her studies and job.He only returned to his family home when absolutely necessary. After Camille graduated and started working at the hospital, the two of them settled into a spacious apartment nearby. When Jameson rushed home, he tore through the living room, the bedroom, and even the bathroom. All the photos of them together were gone. Camille did not respond to Jameson’s message.Jameson felt a wave of unease and reached for his phone to call her. However, Sylvia started coughing up blood again, crying his name. Camille’s mind seemed to explode with a deafening roar, and everything went blank. It took her a while to regain control of her trembling fingers and try to make a call. However, when she opened her contact list, she froze. She did not know who to call.Jameson? He no longer deserved her trust. There were no direct flights to South City, so she booked a rideshare and took a connecting high-speed train, doing everything she could to reach there by 5:00 pm.The sky was gloomy and heavy with a sense of foreboding.Camille did not waste a second.
