Chapter 9 New Future

Author: Perfect Timing
Giving up was not something Christopher was familiar with. Just like how he was relentless back in college, he was doing the same routine for me all over again.

The old me would've heard her heart thump like thunder. Now, I thought he was annoying.

"Christopher, I told you to let it go. What part of it wasn't clear for you?"

He stubbornly shoved a necklace into my hands. "Your necklace is ruined. I made a new one for you. This is made of good stuff. No fire can melt it."

The necklace was gleaming. His hands were covered in burns from making this piece. Pity it did not warm my heart up. I placed the necklace back in his hand.

"Christopher, that necklace meant something to me because it was given by someone important. This necklace means nothing to me because it came from you."

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to let Yvonne burn your stuff. I was just so mad. I didn't see the necklace. If I had, I wouldn't…"

Christopher's POV:I saw Josephine again at a bidding event. She was standing among the crowd, talking fluently and eloquently. She was introducing her new product, and standing with her was an equally brilliant man.He was her husband, or so they said. They built their business up from scratch, and that was an inspiring story. It was also a testament to their skills.I held my glass as tightly as I could, holding back my urge to step forth. She, however, said hi to me first.Josephine graciously introduced her husband to me as if our past did not faze her at all. She had closed that book and left it behind her.As she and her husband made their way to another business owner, I called out to her.She turned back. It was then that I noticed how gentle her face was. That stunned me. For a while, there was nothing but sorrow and reluctance on her face. She was nothing but a hysterical woman, a far cry from who she was now.And I realized who made her that way. Me. I lost the

Thanks to my hard work, Yvonne's reputation was broken. She was now infamous. She tried to sue us for slander and libel, but that couldn't work, not when everything we said was the truth. She wanted to fight for her honor, so I sponsored my lawyer all the way. Even if the Internet were to lose, I'd pay for their losses out of my own pocket.…The divorce case dragged on for six months. That was also how long Christopher clung to me.The moment the divorce was finalized, realization finally hit him. He finally knew how inappropriate his interactions with Yvonne were. And he thought an apology was magnanimous enough, coming from him.His parents' funeral came. It was late, and we were divorced, but I attended it anyway. They sponsored my studies when I couldn't afford tuition. They showed me love when I needed it.When Christopher was still my suitor, I was talking down to myself and said I wasn't worth his love. They tried to cheer me up and said they'd give me five million if I

I crashed into the room unceremoniously and snapped up whatever glass I could get. Then I slammed the drink down that bitch's head and smacked her right across the face. Then again, this time on the left. Then again, this time on the right. And I repeated the process.Christopher grabbed my hand and pulled me backward. Yvonne hid herself behind him, crying like she was the victim here."What are you doing, Josephine? Did I do anything?"That bitch was still trying to act innocent even now. I showed her the snapshot. "You almost killed Doug, and you have the nerve to act innocent? I don't give a rat's shit about your life with Christopher before our marriage, but you wouldn't stop calling him even after we got married. "And at midnight! You wore my pajamas and stayed with him in our bedroom. Alone! I know sluts who have more self-love than you!"I would never embarrass Christopher in front of anyone. That was in the past. That was why I never let anyone know the disgusting thi

The anesthesia's effects ebbed. The first thing I saw was Christopher."Why didn't you tell me? I thought my folks were still overseas!" His eyes were red, and his face carried heavy exhaustion. "Why did you abort our child without my permission?""I told you about your parents' deaths, Christopher. You just thought I was lying. You know the pregnancy is true. You know the abortion's true too. You just refuse to believe either. And we're getting divorced anyway. Keeping the child is pointless."He was out of words. Everything I said was the truth. He did not love me but seemed to care about the baby a lot. I had no idea what was going on in his head.He then picked up the slip in the bouquet, and the words on it twisted his face. "Here's to a new life? Nathaniel? A new life, you? How dare you! You're finding another man when my parents just died? And the baby you abo—"I wanted to kick him out, but Yvonne called him and said a dog bit her. Silence grasped the room. Yvonne said a b

Nathaniel walked me all the way to the operating room. He was frowning. "I thought you two were in love. He's not even here when you're going to go through an abortion."It was complicated between me and Christopher. I couldn't tell everything to someone who was little more than a stranger, so I forced a smile."It's not what you think. Just get to work.""He is still the child's father, and his wife's going through an abortion. Even so, he's not coming?"And then my phone rang. Christopher. I refused to take it, but Nathaniel was faster. "You're not coming even when your wife's getting an abortion? You call yourself a man?""Oh, she got you into her little act now? If you're worried about her, tell her to carry the baby to term. You can raise the kid. I—"That was it. I had no expectations for him anymore, but he was going too far. I snatched the phone and hung up on him.Nathaniel couldn't believe Christopher. He froze like an ice statue."No love anymore between us. Like I s
