Alex whispered as he grabbed my arm, “I clearly told you he was busy.”
My eyes narrowed, heart racing, then I yanked my arm free.
“Everyone, leave,” Damian commanded. Alex crossed his arms tightly before departing with the two ladies in the room.
Damian got up and walked over to the bar counter. “You know you shouldn’t be here…” he said as he reached for a wine bottle from the shelf. He turned and asked, “Care for a drink?”
I didn’t reply.
He poured the wine into the glass and said, “I don’t just give this wine to anyone.”
Finally, I forced out, “Then why are you giving it to me?”
He locked his eyes on mine and smiled.
“What exactly did you mean by I was always the one?” I questioned.
The corner of his lips lifted into a smirk, “you shouldn’t pay attention to every single word, Janelle,” he said, then suddenly flung the wine at me.
I stepped back from the splash.
“What the heck?” I snapped.
“What was that for?” I said as I grabbed a napkin from the table and wiped my dress.
He offered a hand as he stepped closer, “my apologies. Mind if I make up for this?” He said.
I rolled my eyes and spat, “that won’t be necessary!”
With that, I walked out of the room and headed straight to the parking lot.
Alex stood there, blocking my way.
“Move,” I said, my voice frosty, before turning to leave..
“Get in,” Damian’s voice came from behind.
“No.”
Alex pushed me into the car and lowered his head. Damian got in and drove off at high speed.
“Can you at least slow down? You’re not trying to kill me, are you?” I yelled as I grabbed the seatbelt tightly.
He smirked and the car slowed down.
“Where are we going?” I questioned, looking around, then realized we were out of town.
He drove down to an abandoned building right in the middle of the forest.
“Get out,” he snapped.
“You wouldn’t want to miss the show…” he said as he got out and walked straight into the building.
I didn’t move. I stayed in my seat.
I took out my phone to call but it didn’t work. That’s when I realized there was no signal.
Oops.
I got down from the car and pulled my phone up in the air to search for a signal. A scream tore through the silence from inside the building.
My chest pounded hard.
I crept towards the broken window and peered inside.
A man held his bleeding hand and kept screaming. In Damian’s hand, was a knife covered in blood. My hands flew to my mouth as a gasp escaped.
Damian turned to me but before his eyes could catch my sight, I turned away.
My feet rooted to the spot.
Then Damian called, “come inside, Janelle.”
My fingers tightened around the door handle, but I didn’t move.
“Don’t make me drag you!” He said again.
I sighed, then walked in through the front door. I stared at the man as tears streamed down his face. Damian stood up and walked over to me, the knife pressed into my palm.
My fingers trembled around it as the man’s broken cries filled the room.
“Kill him,” he let out.
My eyes widened, my stomach twisted violently. “What?” I spat.
He leaned in, and whispered, “If you want to know what I meant earlier…then kill him, Janelle.”
I opened my mouth, but no words came.
“And if you want to know what truly happened to your brother, you’ll kill this man first. He could be part of the gang,” he said with a smirk.
My breath hitched.
No one knew about my brother.
How did he know?

JanelleAfter I dropped Ashley at her apartment, I parked the car and hailed a cab down to my house. I glanced through the window. My mom was sitting down, biting her fingers and tapping the tiles with her foot—nervous or worried? I couldn’t catch.Dad was pacing around the living room, with his hands folded behind his back. I sighed, then walked in. My mom rushed and hugged me.“I’m glad you’re okay,” she said, still hugging.A faint smile tugged on my lips. I hugged her back.We both stepped back. She placed her warm hands on my cheek, and said, “I’m sorry, Janelle, but we tried. Your father and I tried to source for the money but Damian kept blocking every option we had.”Dad said, “Besides, even if we pay, it would be of no use. Your grandfather made that decision years back.”“Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked.Dad walked closer, “I wanted to, but I didn’t know how,” he said.“I was also angry at your grandfather back then. But it was too late, he had already signed the contract
JanelleIt was…Damian. But how? I opened my eyes wide to confirm that I wasn’t seeing wrong and lo and behold, it was indeed him.I got up quickly, grabbed a cloth to cover my body. He chuckled. “That won’t be necessary. Your body will be mine,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper.I furrowed my brows, and snapped back, “I am nobody’s object.”He replied, his voice cold and confident, “Yet. You’ll be, soon.”I didn’t say a word. Our gaze locked. I studied the way he studied me too.His eyes were calculating. It was hard to guess what he was thinking. He uttered, “Is this a staring contest? I’ll win if it is.”I didn’t reply.“Do you want us to keep doing this or I should just wake your friend?” He asked. Then Ashley turned, as if she was about to wake up. I stood up and grabbed his hand, leading him outside to the back door.I pushed him to the side.“How did you find me?” I questioned.“Tracker,” he said as his eyes narrowed down my body.“You placed a tracker on my body?” I
JanelleJust then, the door kicked open. I turned to look, and behold right outside the door was Damian Cooper, a line of men stood behind him. His presence alone silenced the room. “No one dares to touch what belongs to me.” “Janelle is mine.”As Ashley saw Damian, she stammered, “legendary Damian Cooper?!” Then she fainted.“Ashley! Ashley!” I called, but there was no response. Then I spotted her eyes twitching.“My friend just fainted, we need to take her to the hospital,” I yelled, trying to reach out for help.Damian said, cold as ice and sharp, “she fainted…she’ll definitely wake up. Relax”“Don’t tell me to relax!” I yelled at him, and got up to hit him but one of his bodyguards pinned me down. The pig-masked man didn’t seem scared.“Damian? Don’t you think you’re here early?” he said and he poured wine into a glass and then walked over to Damian who was already standing in front of me.“You know the rules…you dare not touch what belongs to me,” Damian said but the rabbit—ma
Janelle$500,000 debt.Loan collateral: His granddaughter, Janelle Peters. And this contract was signed twenty-four years ago. I was just one.I read it further and it says, “I, Gregory Peters, use my granddaughter to pay off my debts. Use her for whatever you wish.”I couldn’t believe I had just read that.My grandfather, the only man who supported and cared, betrayed me. He sold me off —to the Coopers?Ashley walked closer, and tapped my shoulder. “Girl, are you okay?” She asked. I smiled, trying to shake it off. “Yes, I’m okay,” I replied. She smiled back, “Are you sure? You can tell me anything,” she said and I nodded as I flashed a warm smile.“Since you’re good, let’s go now—to the club,” she said.“Ashley, can we do this—“ I said, then she cut in, “no Janelle, we can’t.”“You said you’re fine, but I’m not. Let’s just party, we’ll be back soon, okay?” She begged, then I had no choice but to give in. She hugged me and happily hailed a taxi.“Downtown club,” she said as we got
JanelleI approached the living room and spotted a tall man seated on my late grandfather’s couch like he owned the place. The basket of oranges slipped from my hand, my jaw dropped when I saw who it was.It was Damian Cooper, CEO of Ranks Construction. One of the richest companies in the country. Every woman’s dream, but what was he doing here? Was this a dream? He stood up and took five steps to meet me where I stood—frozen still. His gaze moved slowly over my body as he studied me.My fingers trembled at my sides, but I tried hard to hold it in. I couldn’t help but stare at his green eyes. They were mesmerizing. I understood why men wished to be him. He wasn’t just handsome! He was—gorgeous.Even I wished I had such shoulder length white hair. Finally, he spoke, interrupting my thoughts as he grabbed my attention.“She’ll do!” For a minute, I couldn’t understand. My parents’ faces lit up like what he said was worth rejoicing over.“What do you mean?” I asked. He scoffed, then sna
