Ayla's POV
It was a new day, and I was going to start it with a happy mind. I have had my fill of tears and today was going to be a colored day as I have make-up and a dressing appointment to keep at the pack house. Wondering what the occasion is? It's my damn wedding! I got an invitation to my wedding ceremony today. I received it from my father's hands, and he was so happy that I was really doing this. “Eventually!” I exhaled as the car came to an abrupt stop. Stepping out, I let my eyes take in the gigantic building before me. “So gorgeous!” I exclaimed, as if I was seeing it for the first time. Well, it isn't my first, but it feels strangely new to me as it's going to become my new home and not the cabin I share with Mr Jacobs. My eyes dilated as I saw Calyx staring at me from the second floor. He was drinking from a glass, an arm resting on the barricade as he looked down at me. I immediately ruffled out a smile and turned to face the woman trying to engage me in a conversation. “Welcome Ayla, I am Moira.” She smiled at me and I reciprocated. “Thank you, Moira, where do I go?” I found the urge to take my eyes back to Calyx but, I didn't want him to see my weakness, so I just went with Moira as she led the way. We were halfway along the stairs when a ferocious Calyx gripped my hand and pulled me into a corner. “Let go of me!” I gnarled, struggling with him. He let me off and stepped back, staring at me closely. “What are you doing here? Didn't I warn you to stay away?” His voice rang with disgust. I huffed at him and tried to walk out, but he dragged me back, pulling me into him in a way I was lying on his chest. One could mistake us for a romantic couple with the way he was staring down at me as he was taller. “Let go, Calyx,” I said carefully, trying so hard to hide my face which was already turning hot red. “Hmph. You want this, don't you?” He snickered, and I tried all I could to get out of his grip, but he was just too powerful. “Why won't you look at me, eh?” He held my chin in place, staring directly into my eyes. I have to get out by all means, hence he will break me again. It won't take him long to notice the pain in my eyes. The strike in my heart and how weak he was making me just by covering me with his body. He's going to mock me when he finds out how much sensation he was driving into me just by staring into my eyes. He should never know. I should prevent that from happening. “Yes, you warned me to stay away, but I can't. We are getting married whether you like it or not!” I screamed at the top of my lungs, making him jolt. Guess he wasn't expecting that. “You will regret this. I will make sure to make life a living hell for you.” He growled at me but I didn't care. I nodded and walked out. I ran into the dressing room and slammed the door really hard, not realizing that there were people inside, until I laid on the door to cry and was shocked to see eight pairs of eyes gawking at me. “Miss Ayla, are you okay?” One of the women asked and I nodded. “Please come sit, we have just 30 minutes to get you ready.” She said, now applying her professional voice. “Yes, of course.” I swallowed and walked awkwardly to sit at the chair pulled out for me. The ladies started to apply different types of powder to my face and I kept my gaze glued to the mirror in front of me. Not that I cared if they were doing the right job, I found solace in staring at my face, reminding myself that this wasn't a bad choice. I was completely sucked in by my thoughts that I didn't know they were done, and I was supposed to try on the dress. The ladies had long noticed my foul mood, so they just cooperated with my sluggishness. I stood before the mirror staring dolefully at myself when I heard a voice I could pick out even in a noisy crowd. It was Carla. I never thought she would come. “You look so beautiful in that dress, it fits you perfectly.” She smiled, standing behind me and we both stared at the mirror to look at each other. I adjusted the dress and robbed my ankle. “What do you want?” I brought myself to ask. She touches the curls of my hair and smacks her lips. “Why ask when you won't even give it.” “This has always been mine.” She pinned me with her gaze and came to stand in my front. “Is this a couple thing? Because I can't have you sneaking up on me reeking of jealousy.” I tongue-lashed at her. “Why don't you just give up? He will never look at you, he hates you!” She yelled, glaring at me. I tilt my head and chuckle. “Give up because he hates me? Pfft! I am getting into this because of your unapologetic self.” “So you'd rather make your life miserable than watch your sister happy?” She fanned. I didn't have to answer that, as she knows the answer already. She took one last look at me and stormed out. I stepped into the light, and I was almost blinded by the bright colors used in decorating the mini-hall. A smile crossed my lips as I saw my dad, he was smiling so brightly and my mom was wearing a colorful smile too. “Announcing the beautiful bride of Calyx Dwayne; Ayla Jacobs.” The priest announced and the pack members let out a cheating sound. As I walked down the entrance and stood before Calyx whose face hardened the moment I got close. His face was perfectly sculptured, his long black hair curled over his piercing blue eyes, giving him a devilishly handsome look. Not to mention that towering height of his that commanded respect. We both turned to look at the pack members and bowed twice, then faced each other again. “As the moon has united you two, today the moon will witness your union.” The priest said and that was our cue to kiss. "Y-you don't have to do this if you don't want to. Just act as if we are kissing and move away." "And why will I do that?” Calyx teases. “We both know you want this, so quit playing innocent, let's get this done with." With that, he gripped my cheek, purposely digging his fingers into my flesh. Without caring about hurting me, he clashed his lips with mine, taking me through a rough carnal kiss. Such that I couldn't even meet his pace until he was done. The bond stunned everyone in the hall, and they almost forgot to clap for a while, but it came up after a while. "Welcome to hell, my darling wife." Though Calyx’s voice messed up with a resounding clap, I heard him loud and clear. The venom it carries are sharp and cutting. But I still wore a smile as my eyes sighted the gloating eyes of Carla, who was brimming with jealousy.Ayla's POVMy eyes molded as Damon turned to look at me. I tried to speak but my throat was dry and all I could utter was a gulp.“He's gone.” He said softly, his eyes peeked at me and in the corner of it was a glint of concern.I took my palm to my face and wiped off the tears rolling down my cheeks, straightening myself. I tried to maintain a strong pose, but who was I deceiving? Damon had seen me run out of Calyx's room and even protected me from getting caught.Still, I hoped he didn't know what I was facing, he might know because Calyx was mad about me due to what he told him but I really wished he didn't or perhaps stopped concerning himself with our issues.“Ayla, can you not hear me? Are you okay?” Damon asked, his eyes searched through mine as I was lost in thoughts.I whizzled out of my thoughts and stared back at him, “did you say something?”“Yes, I was asking if you want to see the grand Alpha but are you okay?” He asked instead. I nodded my head. “Are you sure? I don't m
Calyx's POVRaw rage burned within me as I excused myself from Carla and stormed out of the study. My heart pounded in my chest, as I took long strides in the dark hallway and within a few minutes, I had already gone up the flight of stairs which led to the master bedroom I shared with Ayla.Damon's words echoed in my mind, accusing me of being too harsh on Ayla. How dare he question my authority, my leadership as the alpha?I clenched my fists, in a bid to control myself until I got to Ayla.I had to put an end to this nonsense once and for all.My breaths were coming in heavy gasps and my fists were clenched. I reached the door to the master bedroom and threw it open, the door slamming against the wall with a loud bang.Ayla, who was sitting at her dressing table, was startled by my sudden entrance. Her tear-stained face looked up at me, confused. I caught a glimpse of fear as she sprang up , her eyes searching mine, but I pushed it aside. She needed to learn her place, to understan
Calyx's POVWatching Ayla's face fall as she saw us was more satisfying than I could have imagined. The fear in her eyes fueled a sense of triumph within me; it felt right to see her suffer, and Carla was unwittingly making it all too easy. Ayla's eyes were filled with shock and pain as she stumbled away, and I relished the moment.I knew it would break her, and I was prepared to mold back the pieces and shatter it all-over again this time harder.A hand snuck around my arm and I brought my eyes down to the small figure of Carla, she slipped her hand around my waist and I couldn't help but smile as I ran my fingers through her silky black hair."I'm happy we're doing this," she giggled, her artificial lashes fluttering. Lost in her beauty, I found myself drawn to her dimpled cheeks, unable to look away. With Carla, everything felt effortless, and now, just gazing at her, I was overwhelmed with desire."I'm never letting you out of my sight again, Carla," I whispered into her ear, brin
Ayla's POVShivers wrecked my body as I stared down at my trembling legs, the fear that had seized me when Calyx locked eyes with me still lingered, threatening to consume me entirely. My hand crept up to clutch my chest, fingers tapping anxiously against my breastbone. I dared not raise my gaze until I sensed Calyx's movement, his presence filling the room with a suffocating intensity. With cautious agitation, I cracked open an eye, my heart hammering in my chest as I stole a glance at him. He sat at his mini-bar, pouring himself a drink, a casualness in his demeanor that sent a shiver down my spine. The urge to flee nibbled at me, but I couldn't muster the courage to escape his penetrating gaze. His eyes seemed to bore into me, stripping away every ounce of resolve I possessed.Disturbed by his earlier words about Dwayne's health, an urge to leave the room surged within me, propelling me to my feet. With a sharp inhale, I braced myself and made to leave the room, only to freeze in m
Calyx POVSniveling, I struggled out of the covers, my breath rampart, my face covered in deep sweat. Tying my robe around my waist, I rushed to get the door and, for the first time, I sneaked out of the room not wanting to wake Ayla, who was deeply asleep and didn't hear the thud from the door.“What's going on? You sounded urgent.” I said, taking hasty steps towards Damon, who was standing quietly beside my door.He didn't reply and just stared at me, worry etched on his face. I was awoken by Damon's hushed voice, he had mind linked me and yelled my name severally asking me to get out of bed.“Damon,” my brows twitched as I looked back at him, what could he be hiding in that strong face of his? “What is this about?”He suddenly moved and faced me properly, “it's about your father, Dwayne fell into coma last night.” His words felt like a sledgehammer to my heart.Sweat broke down my forehead, I looked at him, shock enveloping my senses. “Father was fine when I spoke with him, how-w d
Carla's POVWith my heart beating heavily and shattering against the wall of my chest,my vision blurred behind the shimmer of sun that sank into the room through the window.I quit pacing as my attention was drawn to two raps that came from the door.“Come in." I called out settling into one of the sofas in the room.It had been twenty minutes since I had sent for the healer, the long minute had been filled with an emptiness that expanded deep in the inside of me till it threatened to eat me alive. How fitting my belief had been that this was the only way out. Much as the entire thought of what I was about to do seemed to me as being desperate, I was beginning to realize it had to be done.I stood in the middle of the beautiful apartment and felt nothing but cold and emptiness as the door opened, three people walked into the room and as my gaze turned to meet them, a smile came up on my face.My mind spun with desperate thoughts of how all of this was going to end. Still they all ende
