Chapter 3

Author: Teresa
After being cast out of the Stormfang pack and bearing the traitor imprint, I had no choice but to hide in a motel in the nearest human town.

In the days that followed, I felt constantly weak, like the day of the exile ceremony. Worse still, I puked up everything I ate.

Since I didn't know what was going on with me, I dragged myself to the witch's clinic. It was the only place that would take me now that I had no official identity.

After the checkups, the witch stared at me in disbelief. "Good heavens, you're pregnant! How could you allow yourself to be subjected to an exile ceremony in this condition? That could harm your pup!"

I didn't know what to feel about her words as I pressed my hand to my belly.

I used to dream of carrying Zev's pup. But just when I'd finally resolved to leave him, the pup showed up instead.

Clutching the test slip, I sat in the lobby of the clinic and stared blankly into space.

Suddenly, a mocking voice reached my ears. "Ha! I knew leaving the pack was just for show! Did you come for me after learning I was here?"

I whipped my head around and saw Zev standing behind me with his arms wrapped around Lessie. The latter leaned into him weakly, and it seemed almost as if she were the perfect fated mate for him.

I clenched the pregnancy test slip and said nothing.

"A pregnancy test slip?"

He snatched the slip from me and gave it a quick glance before laughing incredulously. "You're pregnant? No way!"

His expression switched to a smug look as if he'd seen through my lies, and he sneered down at me. "Are you faking a pregnancy just to get my attention? Fine. Since I'm in a good mood today…"

His voice dripped with mock generosity as he said, "If you beg me, I'll take back what I said and complete the marking ceremony with you."

I closed my eyes and swallowed the bitterness in my throat. What was I still hoping for? What was I still hesitating over? This pup was never meant to be.

I snatched the pregnancy test slip back and coldly snapped, "Don't worry. I won't use such a pathetic trick to deceive you again."

With that, I turned and walked into the witch's consultation room.

"Wait!"

For a split second, Zev's voice wavered with uncertainty. Perhaps he finally realized that I wasn't the kind to lie about carrying a pup.

"Zev, don't go…" Lessie clutched his arm and pressed a hand to her chest with a pale face. "I feel so awful… Please stay with me while I get some rest. I'm begging you…"

Zev gave me one last, complicated look. In the end, he helped Lessie back to her ward.

As for me, I didn't hesitate for a second and went straight to the witch. My voice was calm as I announced, "I want an abortion."

Surgery was possible, given my condition. The witch didn't question me and began making the necessary preparations.

Meanwhile, Zev helped Lessie into her ward. She hooked her arms around his neck and pulled him down onto the bed with her. But no matter how much she tried to flirt with him, the gnawing unease in his heart grew stronger.

Lessie frustratedly nipped at his throat and grumbled, "Zev, focus!"

Just as they were making out, the voices of two witch assistants drifted through the door. "This is Ms. Elrick's pre-op assessment slip. Her abortion is scheduled to begin in five minutes."

"Alas… Poor Ms. Elrick. It must have been so tough for her to conceive."

Elrick?

"Kira? Is she really pregnant?"

Their words hit Zev like a lightning bolt. He was ready to storm out and question them, but Lessie clung to him desperately.

Her eyes darted with a calculative gleam, and her honeyed voice dripped with cunningness as she said, "Don't be fooled by Kira, Zev. How could she be pregnant? Plus, Elrick isn't a rare last name.

"Did I… hurt you?" Her hands roamed his body in an attempt to incite his lust. Before giving him the chance to think, she started to satisfy his desires.

Half an hour later, Zev stumbled out of bed. The unease within him was now at the peak of a suffocating storm. "I need to see for myself. Stay here."

He sprinted to the operating room just as the doors opened.

I exited with a pale face and unsteady steps, just after finishing the surgery.

Zev locked his eyes on me, looking utterly horrified. "W-Were you really pregnant? And you got rid of it?"

News that Zev was about to marry Lessie spread quickly, and even my parents heard about it.They pieced together everything Zev had done to me from what little I told them. When Father saw the wedding announcement, his expression darkened. Then, he let out a cold snort and said, "He hurt my daughter and thinks he can just walk away unpunished? He'd better wait. I'll send him a special gift on his wedding day.""What kind of gift?" I asked.Father patted my head and merely said, "You'll see when the time comes."A few days later, just before the wedding, Zev showed up battered and bruised in front of me. He had one broken arm, and his clothes were smeared with blood.I could barely recognize this wretched-looking man as the arrogant Alpha I once knew."What are you doing here?" I gave him a cold glance."My father locked me in the dungeon and forced me to marry Lessie. I had to take down over ten guards to get here." His voice was hoarse. His eyes scanned my face greedily like

After leaving the human-rented place, I returned to the Cindergrove pack, where my parents were.I hadn't come back sooner because I'd been too weak after surgery, and I hadn't wanted them to worry. But now, I had no choice. After entering the pack lands, I noticed my parents on the training grounds, training the pack. When Father saw me, he rubbed his eyes hard, as if he couldn't believe what he was seeing. Mother rushed over and hugged me tightly. "Oh, my baby! You're home!"My nose stung. I was their youngest child, but they weren't exactly young anymore. That was when I started to regret wasting all my time on pointless love instead of staying by their side. And yet, I ended up getting nothing in return.Father was a sharp Alpha. His gaze lingered briefly on my belly, but he ended up saying nothing. Contrary to his usual stern self, he wrapped his arms around me and gave me a big hug. "Nothing matters more than the fact that you're back now. Rest, and everything will pas

In the days that followed, Zev claimed that more of his memory was coming back. He searched every corner for me and bombarded my phone with messages.I didn't reply to any of them. Instead, I rented a tiny place in the human world and stayed there alone, quietly.I didn't expect him to find me.One morning, I'd just brewed myself a cup of coffee when the doorbell rang. I opened the door to find Zev standing there, looking ecstatic. "Kira, you're really here!"I mercilessly rolled my eyes at him and tried to slam the door in his face, but he immediately blocked it."Listen to me, Kira. You need to come with me right now," he declared in a firm voice and locked his gaze on me. "Human hunters are sweeping the area for lone wolves, and you need a residency permit to stay here legally. I know there isn't anyone in your family who's lived in the human world for at least three years as required, so you can't get one."He stepped closer and pressed, "Either come with me, or you could wai

Zev lunged forward and grabbed my shoulders. His eyes were filled with pain, and his voice trembled as he shouted, "Tell me! Is it true that you were pregnant? And did you get rid of the pup?"I shook his hands off expressionlessly. "Does it matter? To you, this is just another pathetic trick, isn't it?""I—"Zev tried to say something, but Lessie urgently rushed over and waved her phone. She cut him off and said, "Zev, we have to get back to the pack! Members of the council are here, and they brought a command from the Alpha King!""Let them wait." Without glancing at her, Zev kept his eyes locked on me.She panicked. "No! You're running for the council, and you mustn't ruin your impression!" she screamed, grabbing his arm. After struggling for a moment, Zev eventually gave in. He gripped my shoulder roughly, and his voice was full of that same condescending urgency as he ordered, "Stay here, and don't go anywhere else! I'll be right back!"Then, he shifted and vanished.Lessi

It'd been days since Zev was discharged, and neither of us had reached out to the other.Word around the pack was that Zev had turned into a party maniac. The hot ladies were now regulars at his parties.I never originated from this pack and had only joined it for Zev. Now, it was time to leave. After work, I went straight home to pack my stuff. But once I opened the door, I froze.Zev was on the couch, holding a pretty blonde with bright, sparkling eyes. The two were so tangled up it was as if they owned the place. My sudden appearance clearly startled him. He panickedly and pulled his hand away, but almost immediately after, he remembered he was supposed to have lost his memory. Then, he placed his arms around her and held her tighter. "What are you doing at my house?" he asked impatiently. His house?Everything in this place, from the floors to the furniture, including the couch they were shamelessly sprawled on, was something we'd chosen together. And now, he'd brought ano
