Kaylas POV

I stood alone in the dim hallway, staring at the old, worn photograph my grandfather had handed me hours ago.

The blonde girl really looked a lot like the blonde man.

My fingers ran across the edges slowly, brushing over the faded faces and soft creases from time. My mother looked so young in the picture—her smile bright and warm. There was something in her eyes that made my chest ache, like I was seeing a piece of myself in her… and that only made it hurt worse.

I didn’t even realize I’d been standing still for so long until someone passed behind me and gave me a curious glance. I tucked the picture into my pocket and took a shaky breath. I needed to leave before Adrian saw me—before I had to explain where I was going or why I didn't want to be in the same space as him anymore.

I took one quiet step backward, then another.

Almost made it.

Then—

“Kayla?”

His voice caught me mid-step. Of course, he’d catch my scent. He was a damn Alpha. I froze.

Slowly, I turned around. Adr

Kayla's pov I thought about it and a question entered my head suddenly. "Ingrid, do you think he might be responsible for my mother's death too?"Ingrid gave me a pitiful look and sat beside me. "Oh Luna Kayla, Don't think that way. We don't even know if she's actually dead. There have been no records of her death. We only know that she's missing. We have to hope that she's still out there somewhere, waiting to reunite with you."I let out a sigh and tried to believe her even though it was very hard to do."But do you know anything about how Alpha Dominc... I mean my father died? I need to know how it's connected to the Lycan king."Ingrid shook her head, "I don't know the exact specifics but all I heard was that one day, The Lycan king and Alpha Adrian went out but only the Lycan king returned alive."Well that was a complicated situation."I exhaled slowly. “I need to ask Adrian. If anyone knows the truth, it’s him.” As if on cue, the door opened and Adrian walked back in. His j

Kayla's pov Ingrid stood frozen in the doorway, holding a tote bag and wearing a look of complete panic. “I—um—Dr. Marcus said you were awake and I—oh, wow, okay—” she stammered, backing up a step. Adrian cleared his throat and leaned back, running a hand through his hair. I tugged the hospital blanket a little higher and avoided both of their eyes. “This is awkward,” Ingrid muttered, looking between us. “Especially since, you know… you two are supposed to be siblings.” I groaned and buried my face in my hands. “Thanks for the reminder, Ingrid.”She gave a nervous little laugh and stepped into the room before awkwardly walking forward and placing the bag down on the chair. “I brought you a change of clothes and some stuff from your room. Also… soup. Because you keep skipping meals.” “Thank you,” I mumbled. She gave me a quick hug and narrowed her eyes at Adrian. “Keep it PG while I’m gone. Or, better yet, don’t.” “No wait, I’m going downstairs to get her prescription,”

Kayla's pov I blinked against the harsh white light overhead, my mouth dry, my limbs heavy. The smell of antiseptic clung to the air like a warning sign, and the faint beeping of a heart monitor ticked softly beside me. Where…? “Kayla?” Adrian’s voice was the first thing I heard clearly. I turned my head, and there he was, sitting on the chair beside my bed, his brows knitted tight and his usually sharp eyes full of concern. “You’re awake,” he breathed in relief, reaching out to brush a stray strand of hair from my face. His hand lingered for a second before pulling back. “What happened?” I rasped, my throat dry like sandpaper. “You fainted again,” Adrian said gently. “In the hallway. You scared the hell out of me.” I closed my eyes for a second. Oh. Right. The picture, Louisa, the argument—everything came rushing back in pieces. “I didn’t mean to,” I whispered. “I know. But i think you’ve been pushing yourself too hard, no one should faint this often.” Before I could resp

  • A Luna of Ice : Reborn for vengeance    Familiar blondes

Kayla's pov Grandpa leaned closer and squinted. “Ah… must’ve been an open event where everyone could come so he didn't have to hide her." His words made sense, but something felt offDidn't Lady Catherine say she had never met Lady Rina? All Lunas are required to attend every open event, even if they were sick, wouldn't they have met then? Was she lying then? Could she have been the person who killed my mother? I stared harder at the photograph my grandpa handed me. My fingers traced the old edges as if I could pull the memories out just by touching them. Then i noticed something else. There was something about the way —Adrian’s father—stood with his arm around the familiar blonde man even though my mum was in the middle. There was comfort there, a closeness even a blind man would see. Could this blonde man have been the best friend Lady Catherine mentioned? He looked so much like the woman I saw with Adrian a few days ago. Same pale golden hair, same piercing light eyes. A sib

  • A Luna of Ice : Reborn for vengeance    Life after Adrian

Kayla's POV The morning air smelled like citrus and something faintly herbal—maybe rosemary or sage. I couldn’t tell. My brain had been stuck in a haze ever since I moved here. The guest room that I was now in sat nestled in a quiet part of the palace, it felt far from Xavier, the councilmen and any other problems I had. That alone made it feel like a safe haven, but emotionally? I was still wrecked. Today though, I was going out with my grandfather to places he wanted to show me. So that was at least something to look forward to. “Come on, sweetheart,” my grandfather said, nudging open the old wooden door that led to a back garden. “It’s not much, but I’ve kept your mother’s garden alive.” That alone was enough to make my chest tighten. I followed him out into the sunlight. The garden wasn’t large, but it was wild and colorful—like it had refused to be tamed. It felt right, somehow. My fingers trailed through the petals of something yellow and soft as we walked. “She p
