Nora's POV

"Well, that's how far we can go tonight," Damien said when we got to the orchard. He had shifted back to his human form and we finished the tour, walking side by side. Honestly, I didn't hear most of his explanations because I was deep in thought.

I was thinking about how gentle his wolf had been with me, how it had let me pet it and...

I was so lost in my thoughts that I almost tripped over a fallen branch but Damien caught me by the waist.

"Please, be careful," he cautioned me gently, bringing me close to him. My heart raced when he touched me and it was like fire was spreading over my skin. I nodded, suddenly tongue-tied and I couldn't understand why I felt disappointed when he let me go.

"Can we go back to the packhouse now? I think I'm...feeling sleepy now," I faked a wide yawn, stretching my hands above my head. I could swear that I saw his face fall in disappointment too.
