What Else?

"What else did it want?" Nicole asked in a low voice, obviously anticipating what happened next. The story wasn't gruesome enough because Mr. Liu decided not to narrate it gruesomely.

"At that time, I thought the wolf would at least stop attacking and it would have had his fill, after all the spilled blood. At that thought, I decided to check up on you and your mum. Surprisingly, the wolf followed after me."

"Wow, even after gruesomely killing the servants, it still wanted more? Wolves must be so cruel." Nicole said, shivering.

"They are more than cruel." Mr. Liu chipped in, even though he had only interacted with one rogue wolf while killing off any he encountered later on.

It made me wonder if he wanted to have you or your mother killed."

On the other hand, Nicole curled up on the couch, her knees meeting her jaws when she heard her father's last words.

"I had to run up the stairs, in order to get you and your mother to hide. I had hoped that help would come soon but then it was taking too long. The wolf had climbed up the stairs, running towards your room…" Mr. Liu deliberately stopped talking at that point to see her reaction.

Nicole on the other hand, had her eyes and mouth wide open, her hands on her chest, aiming to calm her beating heart.

"And then…" Mr. Liu continued but there was a knock on the door.

The door was suddenly flung open, to reveal Mrs. Liu. Mr. Liu and Nicole had guilty looks on their faces knowing she had been looking for them.

"Out, Nicole, I have something for you to do. I'll be out in a moment." Mrs. Liu ordered while glaring discreetly at her husband.

Nicole, on the other hand, stood up and walked out, sheepishly. She didn't dare to say a word before walking out of the study room.

As soon as she closed the door behind her, Mrs. Liu declared angrily, "You know it's not time to tell her such a gruesome thing. You should at least wait till she's twenty."

"I just couldn't keep everything away from her, when she was so eager to know it all." Mr. Liu defended himself.

"Ahhh…That aside, our savings have been depleted. The prospects of the next werewolf hunt look dim." She started to explain a pressing issue, making him frown.

"What you suggested is our only way out of this. As much as I hate to even think about it, we have no other choice than to do this. I hope she forgives us."

*******

A black car pulled in on the driveway of the Salvatore family mansion. The size of the mansion was awe-inspiring, built on 8,000 acres of land. It was sure to house more than 200 rooms.

Roman drove for two minutes before he pulled off at the entrance of the mansion.

"Send out a notification for an urgent meeting with the members. An announcement has to be made and something has to change." Bryce said to Roman as soon as he got out of the car.

"Yes, grand…" Roman didn't get to finish his words, as he stepped out of the car before he heard someone call out to him.

Immediately, he knew it was his little sister, as no one else would dare call out to him that way.

"Big brother," Jamie shouted again, in a high-pitched tone. She ignored her grandfather after giving him a side-eye. Then said out loud to him, "I'm annoyed at you, gramps."

She was like a spoiled and carefree girl but then she was sensible enough to know when to draw the lines. Both grandchildren heard Bryce chuckle but then ignored him.

"Hm hm, before you say anything. I didn't agree with grandpa keeping you away from the shift or the run." Roman didn't hesitate to playfully and skillfully throw Bryce under the bus.

"Hmmph, I know that. I trust you always." Jamie said, entangling her arm with her brother's, with a scrunched-up face while turning to look at her grandfather.

"It's your birthday. I have something for you in your study. Make sure you look at it. It's late, I'll go to sleep now." Jamie concluded her words and ran back into the mansion, still ignoring Bryce.

However, Bryce was not dismayed, he knew she was just acting and she understood why he placed certain restrictions on her. But then he needed to appease her.

"So how are you going to appease her, huh?" Roman asked with a wicked smirk on his lips, as he walked past Bryce, into the mansion. He couldn't wait to open his gift.

With his buzzing phone in hand, ready to send messages to the members to inform them about the emergency meeting, he walked up the stairs toward his study.

His books were arranged by the sides of the table, to give room for the box, he then started to wonder what was in it.

He also took out a tool for cutting boxes. But before he unwrapped his present. he typed a few words on his phone and sent them to whoever was needed at the meeting.

Setting down his phone, he started to unwrap the box placed on the table, thinking he would come to face his present but then he was met with a smaller box for him to cut open.

"What the f**k!" Roman let out a curse, seeing how he had cut open more than four boxes but there was still no present yet.
