End of flashback…

A knock on the door jerked Lisa out of her train of thought. She frowned, supporting herself off the Victorian black rug that added a professional look to the office. She wiped the tears that had subconsciously run down her cheeks, making sure not to smug her make-up. “Who’s there?”

“It’s me, ma’am. It’s three hours already and you have a meeting in thirty minutes.”

Lisa sighed. Already? How did time pass so quickly? She took a deep breath to calm her emotions and returning her face to the usual professional look, she walked to her chair behind the mahogany table. “Come in.”

The door opened and Sonia entered with her head lowered to the ground. “Are you okay, ma’am? Do you need me to cancel the rest of your schedule today?”

Lisa chuckled. “Do I look that incompetent to you?”

“I-I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be rude. I was just…”

“Concerned? About me?” Another wry chuckle escaped her cheeks. “You don’t need to be. I don’t need it.”

“I am sorry, ma’am.”
