“No, sweetheart, Uncle Frankie isn’t your daddy,” Rose said calmly.

“So…where’s Daddy?” Tyler asked.

Rose’s throat tightened. She never expected such a question from him.

“Danny said his father bought him a bike on his birthday. Why don’t I have a daddy to get me one?” he asked, his voice filled with jealousy.

“You do have a daddy, T,” she whispered.

“Everyone does. But sometimes… daddies don’t stay.”

“So, my daddy didn’t stay?”

Her heart ached as she forced a smile, “That’s a story for when you’re older, sweetheart.”

“But. I want him to meet him, Danny always talks about his daddy.”

Rose hugged him tightly. “One day I’ll tell you everything. But for now, you have all the love you need.”

Tyler leaned against her silently, but deep down, his curiosity only grew.
