"I lost my job at the restaurant." Cherry dropped a bombshell and I stared at her in surprise, trying to wrap my head around what she said.

"What did you just say?" I asked, what she said not fully registering in my head.

"I said that I lost my job at the restaurant." She said with a sad smile playing on her lips.

"How did that happen? When did that happen?" I asked the two questions that were on my mind.

"I didn't do anything offensive, I swear. I was just 20 minutes late because my aunt delayed me, I was helping her to do something. And not to talk of the traffic jam I met on the road. Mrs. Williams said something about the owner of the restaurant telling her to fire me the next time I came late to work and I guess today was not my lucky day." She explained sullenly, trying to smile but failing miserably, and my mind went to Mr. Adrian when she mentioned the owner of the restaurant.
