The air in the room seemed to get colder as the devilishly handsome man kept tapping lightly on the desk. His eyes were closed and he seemed to be in deep thought. Everyone in the room was sweating profusely as their head remained bowed. The meeting was going in the wrong direction even when they had thoroughly checked their proposals. One of the men in charge of the presentation cast a pleading look to the man standing erect behind the cold man. The profusely sweating man seems to be screaming.“ Please do something, Mr. Greg before President Rex has my head!” The latter just shook his head feeling helpless too. He knew that after what happened last night between Rex and his grandmother, he was going to bring down the roof on everyone! Even Greg wasn't out of the wrath! “ If you are tired of working here, you can as well send in your resignation and get the hell out of my office.” President Rex calmly said, his eyes squinted as he shot a deadly glare at all the people in the room. Without waiting for their reply, he turned around and left the conference room. He silently cursed as he made his way to his office. Rex knew he shouldn't vent his anger on these people but he just couldn't help it. What happened that night two weeks ago was still weighing on his mind. As Rex made his way towards the private elevator, his mind went back to that night again. How could he have mistaken an innocent girl for Ruby? He even took her first time. He knew it was wrong so he tried fixing his wrong doings by giving her his number but she didn't call. It's been two weeks yet he couldn't find her. He still couldn't believe he couldn't find the mysterious woman he shared a passionate night with. Rex even went back to the bar but still there was no information about the girl. because she couldn't give proper details. They all claimed she had stopped working, and they didn't know where she might be. They told him she was just a casual person and they usually don't have detailed information on such workers. Rex was so angry at their unprofessionalism. How could a company hire someone without having her vital information? With swift strides, he finally got to his office and slumped down on the office couch, staring out the window of his high-rise office building, his mind elsewhere. His usual calm and collected demeanor has given way to frustration and unease. Who exactly was that girl and why was it so difficult to trace her? His mind drifts to the argument he had with his grandmother last night about his marriage alliance with Diane Makerson was making him frustrated. Even though Diane was a childhood friend, he wasn't ready to be tied down to someone like her. Rex lets out a deep sigh, feeling trapped and suffocated by the expectations placed upon him. His mind races with thoughts of the woman he can't forget, and the life he was supposed to lead. Rex's usual confidence and control seemed to be slipping away, replaced by a sense of restlessness, discontent and anger. A beep on his phone reminded him of what he dreaded. The meeting with Diane and his grandmother. Just when he was about to stand up, Greg finally walked in with a grin plastered on his face. "Hey, man, are you ready for this?" Greg asked, his face indicating he was enjoying Rex's frustrations. " Yes… just as I am ready to call Grandpa Anderson," Rex shot at him calmly. The smile on Greg's face vanished into thin air and he adjusted himself. How could he forget this iceberg was very brutal? The last thing he wanted was to go back to his grandfather. That old man would bundle him straight to the family business. Then with a flattering tone, Greg said.“ Maybe she's not as bad as you think. Maybe you'll actually like her.” Rex cracks a small smile. "True. But at least then I wouldn't have to pretend to be interested in marrying some woman just to secure the family fortune." Greg shrugs. "Stranger things have happened, right? Besides, it's not like you have a lot of other options at the moment." Then after a brief pause, Greg continued." Is this about that lady? The one from two weeks ago?” With a sigh, Rex finally admitted.“ It's strange but I just can't get her off my mind, Greg." Why was it difficult to erase that night from his memories? "Have you found out anything about her again?" Rex breaks the silence, glancing at Greg. Greg's expression turns serious. "Actually, I've been trying to track her down for you. But it's like she vanished into thin air." Rex's face fell, disappointment etched on his features. "I really wanted to see her again, apologize for how things ended between us." Greg nodded understandingly. "I know, man. I've been trying. But it's like she was a ghost.” Then with a mischievous grin, Greg seemed to bounce back to his cheerful self." Do you perhaps think you slept with a ghost? Ha! You gave your first time to a ghost?" With a murderous aura, Rex shot him a glare that made Greg shriek back in fear. He made a gesture of stealing his lips as he gaze at Rex, still having a hidden grin. “ Let's go before I get into more trouble with that old woman!" Rex said, standing up to get dressed for the meeting. As they entered the luxurious restaurant, Rex took a deep sigh, Rex's grandmother and Diane were already seated, smiling expectantly at him. Rex forces a smile, trying to push aside his thoughts. "Sorry to keep you all waiting," he says, taking a seat. "Let's get down to business, shall we?" But his heart wasn't in it at all. He couldn't shake the feeling that he was making a huge mistake but perhaps it was all for the best. Maybe Diane could be the solution to getting rid of that woman's thoughts from his head. With that thought in mind, he reluctantly agreed to the engagement between the two families.Slamming the door shut in Rex's eyes seemed to awaken Rex from his dream. He sighed knowing that there was nothing he can say again to get Audrey to be honest and free with him.Every time he gets close enough, he blows up his chance to win her.Selfish? Parental care!?He is the one who is selfish for wanting to just enter their family like that after leaving for six years. He doesn’t even know Audrey was pregnant with his children till six years after. He judged her and condemned her all at once. He played with her feelings and made her into a trash can for Diane yet he called her selfish? What is even parental care when he relied on DNA to confirm that Zach and Zoey were his? What is parental care when all he’s done is to build a foundation where there’s no trust again?Rex stood by the door a long time, contemplating on what he’d do now that the plot has gone awry. He knows he keeps doing it wrongly but it’s not his fault. If there’s
Since the discovery of the report, Rex would follow Audrey home after work from a distance and just as Audrey would want to step inside the house, Rex would show up at the door, calling out to the twins and handing them sweets and balloons, playing and conversing with them so that it became a routine. The twins now know that he’d come every night to visit them and they always anticipate it and just like every other day, it was soon the close of work. Rex and Audrey had just rounded up a zoom meeting.“I look forward to working with you.” Rex smiled into the screen as it turned off soon after. The silence that followed was so thick, it drowned the entire office as Audrey didn’t even bother to say a word.“Hmm,” Rex cleared his throat, scratching the back of his head as he thought of what to say when Audrey cut him off.“I’ll leave if there’s nothing else.” And with that, Audrey left his office. One can say they still have their differences
Rex didn’t know what to say for a long time. Torn apart with what he heard from the kids, he began to ask himself questions that made him shiver, questions that were hard to brush off.‘Do I deserve them?’ It rang his head for a while as he allowed the silence from the room to drown him. Audrey indeed is a strong woman. Six years, she dealt with all kinds of comparison and was painted all shades of black. She was called names and like Zoey said, she constantly watched her back. Even as little as they were, Zach and Zoey are already going through the same fate and going strong when they are supposed to be playful like every other child of their age.His absence and ignorance have forced them to adapt to being mature at their young age, depriving them of the beautiful colors of the world outside. Just like in the mall, they have always been bullied and Audrey with just two eyes, didn’t know of this. They were smart enough to keep it from her becau
Days turned into weeks since the incident at the mall, Audrey avoided Rex like a plague. She comes to work before anyone else to start the day's job and leaves when every other person leaves.Rex knew that if she continued like this, he wouldn’t be able to find out what secret she’s hiding. He knows Audrey's level of determination and toughness, he has come to understand how she thinks but he also understands that she’s a woman and women are complicated.“I need you to do a quick favor for me.” Rex says on the phone as he watches Audrey clock off work from his office window. “What does the almighty conglomerate of our city want this time!?” The anonymous person on the gender end of the phone says.“I want complete details of a person.” Rex says into the phone, his eyes filled with determination to find out what Audrey is hiding.“And who is the person? A rival?” “Audrey Hidalgo.” Came Rex’s short response that the person on the other end kept mute. “I need every detail to be forwar
The loud noises of people around became nothing but muffled as Audrey’s each and every word echoed vibrantly in Rex's head. He couldn’t focus on the work at hand, his entire being was trapped in each sentence. It was a question; one that he really hoped for the answer to be positive. Earlier, he had gone to get presents for Audrey because she was finally giving him face and gradually coming to accept him. Who would have thought that a question would come to ruin everything?‘God damnit.’ Rex cussed, landing a heavy blow on the wall, making it dense. His whole body shook like an erupting volcano, even his body and soul felt the pain and stress. Rex remembered how Zoey’s eyes lit up when he saw her take off his mask. It was as if she had been waiting for a very long time for the day she’d meet someone she cherishes a lot. That feeling, words aren’t enough to describe it.It was like seeing light at the end of the tunnel, sudden peace and warmth enveloping him. In Zoey’s eyes, he saw
The whole mall was scattered with people, both big and small and coincidentally, most were wearing the same pattern of clothes that it was hard to tell who was who.“My babies.” She says incoherently, holding her chest that was about to explode when something in her told her to return to where she got the last item and that was when she saw Zach and Zoey being cornered by children of their age but bigger. She had only left them for a while and they were bullied. What would happen if she missed them? She was still running around helplessly when she saw the twins in the midst of an adult. Why does his back look familiar?Audrey’s heart sank deeper when she saw it was her boss and the father of her kids! What was Rex doing in the mall? Did he trace her movements? What does he want? All these questions triggered Audrey and she gritted her teeth in annoyance.“Zach, Zoey..” her deep voice called out, obviously suppressing her anger. How dare he trace her here and want to steal her babies f
“ Momma, I want some fries," Zoey's nightingale voice rang out, melting the hearts of those around. Audrey smiled at her, pushing the bowl of fries towards her. With an excited look and a wide cute grin, Zoey thanked her mother before taking bites from the plate. After the dinner, Brandon suggest
Still fuming in anger, Rex stormed into his office, banging the door shut so that the whole building shook in response. Who could that be? — This question kept making rounds in his head, making him even more angry as he began to pace about. Halting suddenly, he grabbed his car key off the table a
“Enough with your tales.” He said, making Diane stumble backwards in surprise.Ignoring Diane, Rex walked up to Audrey and then pulled her arm out so he could examine the extent of the scalding. Rex strode confidently toward the two women, his eyes scanning the space until they landed on Audrey, w
Still clouded with the thoughts of Audrey, Rex walked into the mansion absentmindedly. He had just gotten inside when he heard his grandmother's accusatory voice.“ You brat! How could you do this to your fiance? How could you abandon Diane?" Her voice boomed across the sitting room.Rex was alread
