"I’ll pay you. How much do you need? You just have to live with me and be my housemaid.”
“Oohh looks like you do have a new job.” The person who spoke behind my back got our attention.
I noticed the frown of Mr. Reed while looking at the man who interrupted our conversation. I turned to look at the man, and my eyes widened in horror. Why, of all days does he need to come here? Is he here to end my life? Just like what he wrote on my mirror? I immediately hugged myself for fear that this might be my end. What about my mother? Who will look after her if I disappear to where in this world?
“Who are you?” I noticed Mr. Reed stepping forward, and it was like he was blocking me to face the newcomer.
“Are you her new boyfriend?” Mr. Reed asked.
The shark loaner, Greg, laughed as if he had heard a ridiculous joke.
“Boyfriend?” He looked at his men. “Don’t be absurd, Mister. I don’t have plans to make her my girlfriend. She’s not my type. She’s not that hot to be my girlfriend.” His men chuckled at his remarks.
I scoffed. He’s not even my type. I looked at him in disgust.
“Then why are you here? Who are you?”
The man in front of me immediately caught my attention. His broad back was facing me. But he still looked handsome, even if I was just looking at his back.
Why was I thinking about him? I shook my head. This can’t be happening. Focus, Aurora. Don’t let yourself distract other guys, especially the uncle of your ex.
“Her father owed us money. And I am here to get what is mine.” George, the leader of the shark loaner, said.
I snorted at what I had just heard.
“I told you, Sir. I will pay you by the end of this month. And it’s just the third week of the month. Can’t you spare me for a moment?”
George spat on the ground in front of me before he glared at me. “The audacity of this woman. Give me at least partial payment or else-”
It was as if my head boiled, my nose blew smoke, and my cheeks were red because of what I had just heard from him.
“Or else what?! Threaten me again like what you had just done?” I scoffed.
“I can sue you. You know that.”
I could see George frowning as if he was puzzled at what I said.
“What are you talking about?” he asked.
“Are they behind the threats you received?” Mr. Reed interrupted.
“Threats?” George asked quizzically.
“What threats?” he asked.
I led the way inside my house to show them what they did.
“Now tell me, this is not your doing?”
George scanned the area and saw how messy my apartment was. He even read the written threat in the mirror.
“This is childish.” He pointed out the mirror. “I don’t do threats like this. I’ll torture the person instead of doing these cowardly things.”
I looked at him in disbelief. “You’re lying. Who would have dared to do these things to me aside from you? You have a motif, and you’re the first person, I think, who has the capability and intention to kill me.”
“In what reason?” he asked.
“Because I couldn’t pay you right away.”
He scoffed. “Miss Smith, so that you know… Money is an important thing to me. If I took your life personally, what would I gain from it? Will you pay me back even if you are in the afterlife?” George.
Right. That’s acceptable. But if he’s not behind the threat… then who? I wondered.
“Then who was behind your threat?” Mr. Reed asked.
George shrugged. “I want to clarify that I am not associated with whoever did it. What matters to me is money. And I need you to pay me, ASAP.”
I took a deep breath and massaged the bridge of my nose in annoyance. I was about to speak, but the man in front of me suddenly spoke.
“How much money is she in debt to you? I will pay for it.”
I noticed George’s brows raised as if he couldn’t believe what he had just heard.
“NO! You don’t have to. I don’t need your help. I don’t need your money.” I protested.
“Her father owed me two million. That includes the interest and emotional damage that I’ve been through.” I looked at George in disbelief.
Damn this guy! He doubled the digits to a hundred percent. My father only owed him seven hundred thousand, and if I add the interest, it’s just one million. Why did he say I owed him two million?
“You’re unbelievable! You doubled the price! That’s not fair!” I clenched my fist and wanted to punch his face. This guy is getting on my nerves.
“Okay, then.” I noticed him getting something from his pocket.
I frowned as I wondered what he was planning.
“I don’t have a check here. So here’s my card and call me first thing tomorrow morning. Or go to my company and I will give you the amount you need.”
I forced Mr. Reed to face him and looked at him in the eyes. “I will pay him by the end of this month, sir. Please, let me handle my problem. Don’t interfere.”
“I am offering help. Besides, you will work for every penny I will pay to your creditor. My offer is not for free, you know. You will also need to work for me.”
“But I am not accepting your job offer.” I firmly said.
I don’t want to have any connections with the Mendez Family, especially with this man in front of me.
He raised his brows while staring at me. “Fine. I’ll give you until the last day of the month. If you can’t pay him, then you will have to work for me. As I will pay for your debt.”
Gritting my teeth, I clenched.
“Fine!” I said before I turned to look at the shark loaners.
“Come back on the last day of the month and I will pay you in full,” I said with my head held high.
The shark loaner and his men vanished after the conversation. And I started cleaning my room. I noticed Mr. Reed was still in the living room, standing with his hands in his pockets.
“Why aren’t you leaving?” I asked.
“Because I was wondering who, besides your creditor, has an ulterior motive to threaten you.” Mr. Reed asked.
I shrugged. “I don’t know. But whoever it may be, I don’t care.”
It was already night, and luckily I was finished cleaning. I double-checked the locks of the door, afraid that the vulgar might trespass on my apartment. I lay down on my bed but the word “I WILL KILL YOU,” in the mirror earlier, bothers me.
Who on earth wants to play with me? I don’t know what to do now. I just hope that whoever did it, will not come back anymore.
“One bucket of beer, please!”Some people I knew gathered at a bar to socialize. It would be great to spend time together and relax, but unfortunately, work takes priority. I need money more than anything else. So, here I am, taking their orders.“Coming right up!” I answered.I stopped walking to the table and ordered a bucket of beer when I saw my former classmate, who was with our other batch mates.“Aurora?” She narrowed her eyes and looked at me with disdain when she saw me serving their drinks.“I thought I was just hallucinating. But it is you! How come you work in this place?” she asked.“I thought you were employed at a prestigious company, just like what I saw on your social media. Was that all a lie?” She snorted. She is Genvieve, my former classmate and the second top in our class. She always likes to bully me every time she sees me. I wonder why. I just shrugged my thoughts away.Instead of answering her questions, I took a deep breath and made a fake smile at her.“Anyth
“WHAT?!”My eyes widened in surprise at what I had just heard.“I- I still have two days left to pay for my father’s debt. Why did you pay him?”“How much have you saved to pay off your dad’s loan? Have you reached one million?” he asked.I was lost for words. I only have twenty thousand, not enough to pay my dad’s debt. And I don’t have enough time to earn more unless I sell my organs to the black market. But even the tiniest needles made me pass out, what more if I will undergo an operation. It will be the death of me. It’s cringy to imagine those big needles poking in my body.“I bet you won’t have enough money. And you only have two days left.”My mouth opened, wanting to talk, but he interrupted me. “So you have no choice but to accept your defeat and work with me,” he stated.I sighed in defeat. “You’re right. My money is not enough to pay my father’s debt. But please don’t tell Mico about this matter.”Mr. Reed clicked his tongue. “Which one? About your father’s debt? Or about
Argh!!! What is happening to me?! I’ve been here for a month now. Yet, I still have trouble sleeping. Darn it! Why is it so hard to get enough sleep in this house? Is the house haunted? Or am I haunted? I kept tossing around to find a better position to sleep, but it still didn’t work.Last week, I took a day off and went home to my apartment. I was just leaning on the sofa, while watching my favorite Korean drama series and immediately fell asleep. I slept so long, and when I woke up, it was already morning. I wasn’t feeling hungry, which was unusual for me as I was always hungry. However, I still had trouble sleeping upon my return to Mr. Reed’s house.I walked to the kitchen to drink chamomile tea to help me calm down when I heard a woman murmuring about something I couldn’t understand while she walked down the stairs. She looks like a foreigner. And she’s not the same woman I saw last night. It’s also been a month since I discovered my boss, Mr. Reed, was a Casanova. He always inv
I now look up and stare at an image perfectly molded by God. He is like a greek-god who suddenly descends to the earth to show the beautiful shape of his body. He did not wear a shirt. The button and zipper of his pants were opened so I could see his boxers. But what made me drool and widen my two innocent eyes was the bulge molded between his thighs. Again, I suddenly felt hot and sweat dripping from my forehead.I came back from my senses from fantasizing about his body when he folded my mouth, and it seemed that he wiped my mouth."You're drooling," he said teasingly, as I kissed him."Look at my eyes and not at the bulge of my manhood. You are too entertained by what you are looking at."I hissed. Such a stingy! I mean, bummer. He bent down to make us equal. "My question is… what are you doing here?" he asked as he used his finger to lift my chin and made eye contact with him.I suddenly felt speechless. What would I say? I cleaned the house, got worn out, and passed out in his cl
I hurriedly made my way to the pharmacy to buy something crucial when my phone started ringing incessantly. I knew exactly who it was, but I was in no mood to answer. The matter at hand was far more pressing than the scheduled meeting with my ex's family. With a sense of urgency, I quickly grabbed the pregnancy test and headed back to my boss’s place. As I waited for the test result, I could feel my knees shaking with nervousness. I bit my fingernails anxiously, waiting for what felt like an eternity. Finally, the result appeared, and my heart sank. There were two lines! I was in disbelief and let out a gasp as I covered my mouth with my hands. I messed up my hair in frustration and started questioning myself, “What have you done, Aurora? And now you are pregnant? Really? You can’t get pregnant with your ex’s uncle! Woah! I believe in your consistency in stupidity, woman!” My phone rang again. But this time, I answered him. “Au, where are you? We’ve been waiting for you for a while.
“I’m pregnant!” “What?” they all asked in unison. What did you just say, Aurora? You informed them about your pregnancy?! Seriously? I closed my eyes in dismay.“That’s good news!” Anna, Mico’s mother, exclaimed in excitementAnna, Mico’s mom, shouted with excitement, and I immediately turned to look at her. I also looked at Mico’s father's reaction. What was once a ferocious tiger gradually softened his features. Mr. Mendez’s face suddenly lit up. “Y-you’re p-pregnant?” Mico stuttered. He suddenly held my wrist tightly, pulled me away from his parents, and talked with me privately.“What is it now?!” I asked, annoyingly. Why did he have to drag me out? Didn’t he hear me earlier? He said I was pregnant, but he dragged me harshly as if he didn’t care. I massaged my wrist as I glared at him.“I-I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.”I hissed as I rolled my eyes at him. His annoying!“But about what you had just said… Who-” Our conversation was being interrupted by his mother when she suddenly
“How is she, doc? How’s the baby? Please take good care of my friend,” said a woman’s voice.“The baby is fine. Your friend is fine, too. She just needs some rest,” replied a woman's voice, who seemed to be a doctor.“Thank you, doc,” the man said. I kept my eyes closed, trying to sense the number of people around me. I was worried about the man who might have heard my conversation with Belle in the restaurant. And I was also curious about why Belle was here and how she found out.“Miss Belle, I’ll just buy some food for her. Is it okay if -”“No… no… It’s fine. He-he. You can go on now, Mr. Reed,” Belle interrupted the man.I heard footsteps fading away.“You can open your eyes now, Aurora. I know you’re awake,” said Belle.I opened my eyes and saw her standing there, with her hands across her chest and brows raised. She helped me sit on the bed and put pillows on my back to make me comfortable.“Care to explain what is happening right now? How come you’re pregnant? Who’s the father
What am I even doing here? Why did I agree to this? It's like I'm digging a hole for myself. I look at myself in the mirror, wearing a white off-shoulder wedding gown, with my hair tied up in a high ponytail and lipstick on my lips for the final touch. But did I need to wear this to go to the civil registration office to get our marriage certificate? Yvan presented me with a contract a week ago that made me frown. After a year, we'll file for divorce, and he'll have custody of our baby. I'll get a ton of cash, a house, a car, and a small business, but I can't claim to be the baby's mother. No way am I letting anyone separate me from my child. Even though the baby was unexpected, it's mine, and I'll do whatever it takes to protect it.“I don’t need any material things. I only need this child in my belly.” I answered.I noticed Yvan heaved a sigh before crumpling the paper. “What do you want then?” he asked. I could sense he was a bit annoyed with his brows creased and by the tone of h
