*ZACHARY*

As soon as the jet touched down in New York and the stair descended, I hauled Anna to her feet. I had brought her along despite her protests.

“Please, I can't be seen in New York,” she had protested, now in decent clothing.

“I promised you protection till I get my answers,” I assured her but she still didn't seem convinced, her lips thinned in a grim line.

To keep her from bolting , I loosened my tie and grabbed her both hands. She winced slightly as I knotted the tie around them. I then dragged her along to the waiting car ignoring her shooting daggers to the side of my head.

When the door of the SUV was yanked open, I shoved her in gently and then slid in beside her.

With a nod to the driver, the car revved to life and surged forward.

City lights blurred past as the driver stepped on the gas.

My anticipation grew by the minute.

Thoughts of Valerie assaulted my mind.

Was she okay? Who the hell had done this to her?

I clenched my fists, fighting the urge to take
