LORENZO

The journey back to the pack house was taking longer than expected, mostly because of the traffic on the main highway.

To pass the time, I stayed on the phone with Olivia. Hearing her voice over the speaker helped take my mind off the long drive. We were in the middle of talking about her plans for the week when two black cars sped past us and suddenly cut right in front of our path.

I adjusted on the leather seat, my eyes narrowing. "Olivia, let me call you back."

"Is everything okay?"

CLARAI rushed straight back to my family's house, tears blurring my vision the entire way.Fortunately for me, my mother was just about to step out the front door. She stopped, looking at me in complete surprise. "Clara? What are you doing here? You're supposed to be at the pack house with your husband.""Mom, I'm done!" I sobbed, wiping my wet cheeks with the back of my hand. "I'm completely done! I don't want to be the Luna anymore, I don't want to be the Queen, and I don't want to be Damien's wife!""Don't you ever say that, Clara!" my mother scolded instantly. "You are the Luna of the Redwood Pack. You are the Queen, and no one is going to take that throne from you. What happened? Did something go wrong?""Am I not good enough, Mom?" I cried out, my voice cracking. "Look at me! Am I not perfect? Why does Olivia have to take everything from me? Even when she isn't even here, why does she still get to ruin my life?"My mother's eyes narrowed. "Oh dear... don't tell me Damien is sta

OLIVIAThe next morning, I decided it was time to get active.I stepped out of my room around six o'clock, wearing a sports shirt, my canvas sneakers, and a jogging skirt I had ordered online. I wasn't a fan of trousers—if I put on tight pants, I knew I would just end up hating how I looked in the mirror. A simple skirt felt much better.I met Miranda in the corridor, and we prepared to head out. But as we walked toward the exit, Lorenzo appeared at the end of the hallway. He stopped, his eyes sweeping over my outfit in surprise. "Olivia? Where are you going so early?""I'm going for a jog," I said, gesturing to myself. "With Miranda. Is there a problem?""No, of course not," Lorenzo said, tilting his head slightly. "I just thought sports required pants. Why are you wearing a skirt?"I crossed my arms, giving him an amused look. "Have you ever heard of personal preference, Enzo?""Ah. Preference. Right," he murmured, a faint smile touching his lips. "Okay, then. Have a nice jog."I pl

DAMIENWhen the pack messenger walked into my office and announced that a letter had arrived from the Lycan territory, my heart nearly leaped out of my chest."Give it to me," I ordered, practically snatching the envelope from his hands. My fingers trembled slightly as I tore open the seal. A part of me expected her response to be soft, maybe even a little remorseful. I thought reading my heartfelt apology would soften her heart and make her remember the eight years we spent together.Instead, as my eyes scanned the words, my jaw tightened. Her message was cold, and devoid of emotions. She threatened to hand my letters directly to Lorenzo if I ever wrote to her again, warning me that she would personally convince the Lycan King to wage war on the Redwood pack. But the line that burned into my mind was the way she looked down on me. She explicitly wrote that she was the Luna of a Lycan King now, and that she would never stoop low enough to deal with an Alpha like me ever again."What

OLIVIAI had just stepped out of the bathroom after taking a long, warm bath.Standing in front of the mirror, I slowly brushed my hair, getting ready for the day. My reflection stared back at me, but my mind was completely somewhere else. I kept replaying the events of the morning—waking up in Lorenzo’s massive bed, realizing he had lifted me from that uncomfortable couch in the middle of the night without waking me.A small, unstoppable smile spread across my face, and my cheeks burned with a deep blush. My brain was never usually this active or romantic so early in the morning, but I couldn't help imagining the quiet moment he carried me in his arms while I was fast asleep.A quiet knock at the door broke through my thoughts."Come in," I called out, setting the hairbrush down on the vanity.Trina stepped into the room, holding a plain brown envelope in her hand. She bowed politely. "Good morning, Your Majesty. The post office delivered this earlier. It's addressed directly to you.

OLIVIAAfter we finished eating our late dinner, Miranda came back up to the room to clear the empty plates.Lorenzo and I sat together on the edge of the bed for a little while, talking through a few minor pack updates. But it didn't take long for his eyes to grow heavy. The exhaustion from his journey and the long day had finally caught up with him.Once I noticed him drifting off, I stood up and pulled the blanket neatly over his shoulders.I turned around, intending to quiet down and slip out to my own room. But before I could take a step, Lorenzo’s hand shot out and caught my wrist. The unexpected grip made me freeze. I turned back around, thoroughly surprised. "Enzo?"His eyes were still half-closed, his voice heavy with sleep. "Stay with me."I stuttered, completely caught off guard. "Enzo, I... I should go back to my room.""Stay with me a little longer, please," he murmured, his voice soft and desperate in a way I had never heard before. "Please stay."I softened immediately.

OLIVIAAt seven o'clock that evening, I left my room and headed down the hallway toward Lorenzo’s quarters.I knew how he was. Being the Lycan King, he probably thought he was above taking human medicine and that nature would just sort itself out.Besides, I hadn't forgotten the look Dr. Draven gave him earlier. When the doctor examined the wound, he had hesitated before saying Lorenzo didn't need medication. Lorenzo had insisted on getting some anyway, but Dr. Draven had looked at him with that knowing smile. Now that I had time to think about it, the whole thing made sense. Lorenzo was a powerful Lycan King. A simple scratch like that should have healed within minutes, but the wound was still there. He was deliberately slowing down his own healing. I didn't fully understand whatever game he was playing, but since he asked for medicine, I was going to make sure he actually took it.I knocked on his door."Come in," his voice called out.I pushed the door open and stepped inside.
