Kurt laughed cruelly, “Oh fuck!” he shouted. “Don’t tell me you fancy the fat girl!” His taunt echoed around the trees, “You’re welcome to her.”

All of a sudden, Jack had Kurt by the throat, slamming him into a scorched tree trunk. Kurt let out a yelp of pain, unexpected by the attack, and his legs writhed as they left the ground.

“Say that again,” Jack growled, simmering inside his throat, “I dare you to say that again,” he repeated.

Kurt choked from Jack’s grip. He tried to pull his strengthened grip free from his throat, but Jack was too strong. “She’s not even part of our pack anymore,” he struggled.

“No,” Jack shook his head, “Of course she isn’t, because Jessica Granger is mine.”

Speaking these words, Jessica couldn’t believe what she was hearing Jack say. She wasn’t his; Jessica’s was no one’s possession, not anymore. The words hit raw and cold, she had to speak up.

Jessica felt her heart quicken, pounding in her chest. “What? Who are you to claim me as your own?”

Jack released Kurt and turned to the redhead. His eyes softened, and he became so gentle that his voice calmed down. “I didn’t choose this. Your wolf just called me, Jessica.”

“What?” Jessica asked, finding it hard to believe what Jack was claiming.

“Like you think I want this too?” Jack growled, taking a step back as his eyes lingered on Jessica’s body. “But the Moon Goddess has chosen our fate, the fated bond is beginning. You feel it too, I know you do.”

The alpha wasn’t wrong; Jessica did feel it. She felt it as soon as her eyes fell on Jack mere moments ago. That’s why she felt that way, Jessica’s body reacting to him like some crazy chemical explosion. Heat pooled between Jessica’s thighs, and her wolf purred like a satisfied kitten. The sensation of the tingling electricity swarmed around her entire body, and she couldn’t believe it. Jessica’s body was betraying her, and she hated Jack. He was once her enemy.

“No. I didn’t come back for that,” Jessica snapped at Jack, spinning around. “I came for the funeral. And to see what, or who the hell burned down my grandmother’s house.”

Jessica watched as Jack’s jaw clenched. “The land is being fought over, and the packs aren’t stable. We are all shattering into pieces.” He paused and released a slow exhalation as his voice softened once more. “Jessica, you know very well your grandmother’s death wasn’t natural.”

Jessica felt her entire body freeze as Jack’s words hit true. He was right, and she was thinking the same thing all along. Jessica knew her grandmother’s death wasn’t natural; it stunk of betrayal and murder.

“What are you saying?” the she-wolf asked Jack meekly, tilting her head as she searched for the answer he was keeping to himself. Jessica needed to know, to give herself some peace and to bring the killers to justice.

Jack took steps closer to Jessica once more, and she actually didn’t want to move away now. Feeling the comforting warmth emanating from his body, and all of a sudden, at that moment, she felt safe.

“Your grandmother was keeping something from you,” Jack revealed gently, “Something so important she never wanted you to find out.” He stepped closer. “You’re not just any wolf, Jessica. You’re the chosen one, the prophecy has spoken of you. There’s something about you that isn’t normal, as normal as she-wolves get anyway. You’re strong, fierce, and you have yet to unlock your potential. I can sense it.”

Kurt laughed coldly out loud, rubbing his neck where Jack had gripped him so tightly during his attack. “Oh, please!” He mocked, standing to his feet, “You’re saying the fat pig has a use? Don’t make me laugh! She isn’t a chosen one. Don’t treat her like a Queen.”

Jessica turned slowly toward Kurt, allowing her eyes to glow gold as the fury began to simmer deep inside. She could feel her wolf becoming prepared for a fight. “Keep talking, Kurt. I haven’t allowed my wolf to break free in years. She’s hungry. Once I shift, she’ll be drinking your blood from your mauled corpse.”

And for once, Kurt looked nervous. Jessica had never seen Kurt Ashfield’s eyes filled with dread before, and she was enjoying every second of this moment. Jessica faced Jack once more, ignoring the pathetic man at their side. “Are you serious? Or is this all just a crazy setup joke for the Moonfuries’ amusement? Because, har-dee -har!”

Jack nodded, “I have never been more serious about anything in my life, Jessica. “ He paused. “There are three more alphas, all drawn to you the same way I am. We are all tied to the prophecy, and it’s now time for that to begin.”

Jessica swallowed thickly, trying to think of something amusing to say, “So you’re saying there are three people who will visit me? Or have you been reading too many stories about Christmas Carols?”

“No,” Jack said, shaking his head, “Jessica, you need to take this more seriously. Three more alphas will come to you.”

“A reverse harem?” Jessica muttered under her breath. This was becoming more unbelievable by the second. The only guy she has known romantically, who has mocked her for her appearance and made Jessica feel ugly and worthless. And now four guys want her? This had to be a joke.

Jack raised an eyebrow as he listened to my statement, “What now?”

“Nothing,” Jessica said quickly with a sigh. This guy had zero sense of humour. “Just tell me, how do I find the ghosts of Christmas past?”

“You don’t,” Jack said, shaking his head, his voice dropping to a whisper, “They will find you, starting from tonight.”

Jack then reached out and ran a calloused thumb over Jessica’s bottom lip, sending another pleasured shiver around her body. If this was their wolves connecting, then Jessica wanted more. The she-wolf had never felt such a sensation before, and she could feel it would become addictive, like a drug.

“Your scent to me is alluring and sexy”, Jack said as he brought himself closer to Jessica. “You tease us with your heat, and we will do everything we can to have you.” His voice purred as he spoke, nestling his lips into Jessica’s neck, she felt Jack’s hot breath on her flesh. “All four of us want you; it’s fated. It’s just knowing if you can handle us.”

Jessica found herself unable to respond to Jack’s words. The centre between her legs began to pool further, tingling as she felt her panties become wet with excitement.

“They’ll want to taste you too,” Jack said finally, but I can guarantee I will be the first to devour you. After all, I saw you first.”

“Who is here? Jessica asked, trying to peer past Jack, expecting to see a threat.“The next one,” Jack turned, his amber eyes glowing as he took his gaze to Jessica, “When he gets here, I’m going to need to protect you. Things are going to get a lot more dangerous.”That hauntingly eerie howl still echoed through her, running around her head as she followed Jack toward the Southern ridge. Jessica noticed as the sky drew to darkness, night was sneaking upon them, and the trees grew thicker the further on they traveled. The trees started to appear as though they were from a horror movie, their roots twisting and turning over the forest floor like bony skeletal fingers.“Why are you so hesitant to tell me who this is?” Jessica asked, becoming impatient that Jack was so secretive about someone who allegedly was going to help her save the world, or something.Jack’s jaw tightened as he heard her question, but he was quick to answer. “Lucas Black. “You’re Jessica Granger,” Elias spoke the redhead’s name, low and smooth, and she could feel the sensation of his tone reverberate around her entire body.“Yes,” Jessica said with a smile, “Unfortunately, you have caught me on a bad day. I usually look hotter than this,” She didn’t understand why she decided to make this comment, maybe Jessica was attempting to be overly confident.Elias’ mouth curved up into a wickedly sexy smile. “You’re the damn hottest woman I’ve ever seen.”Jessica felt her pulse racing within her chest. Elias’s blue eyes stared at her as though he was trying to undress her body. “You must not have seen many women then,” Jessica said as a nervous laugh escaped her lips, “Or you need your eyes testing.”“Well…” Elias paused, “I know one thing for sure. You are all mine.”Without warning, Elias touched Jessica’s cheek with his finger, and she felt the electricity ignite within her. It was the same sensation when Jack touched her, a sensation Jessica didn’t realise

The funeral was exactly how Jessica remembered the Moonfury Packs gatherings. Cold faces, fake smiles, and whispers behind her back. Their eyes were on the she-wolf, cold and dead, as she could sense they had no feeling or sympathy for her. Jessica had never felt comfortable here, and even more so now. She just wanted this to be over quickly. Say goodbye to Granny one last time, and then leave.Jessica’s grandmother’s coffin rested in the center of the clearing, a polished wooden box surrounded by roses and the smell of herbs and spices. She despised it. The flowers had hidden the scent of her granny’s wolf scent, and Jessica knew for a fact she hated roses! This service felt formal; there were no personal touches, and she felt rushed to say goodbye to her one final time. The entire pack was there. Jessica recalled each one of their faces. She never forgot anyone who did her dirty, and their cruel taunts flooded back to her.Of course, being here again made Jessica feel self-conscious

It was unfortunate that they seemed to make everyone believe the fire was started by accident, but Jessica knew better.Jessica stood at the edge of her grandmother’s cabin, and the charred remains were all that was left of the memory of her. Her shoes loudly crunched over the harsh ground as the scent of death and ashes lingered in the air, stinging her nostrils. This wasn’t the way Jessica wanted to remember her Granny. It had been a decade since Jessica was forced out of her pack. The Moonfury Pack was cold and cruel, exiling the she-wolf and leaving her with nowhere to go. She had been homeless and left with nothing but a broken heart. Now Jessica had returned to the dark thoughts surrounding her as she watched the last embers of what used to be her life turn into dust for good. Jessica was officially a loner, and the last member of her blood-related family had abandoned her for death. The chilled wind spiraled Jessica’s long red curls, and she wrapped her arms around her body to
