Dahlia’s POV

The heavy brass latch clicked into place with a sound that reverberated straight down my spine.

I sat bolt upright on the edge of my mattress, the duvet tangled around my waist, every nerve in my body fire-alarm bright in the suffocating stillness of the dark.

The door swung open just enough to let a thin blade of warm amber hall light slice across the hardwood floor, cutting straight to the edge of my white rug. Then a shadow crossed it.

Vincent stepped into the room.

He did

Dahlia’s POVThe Grand Ballroom at The Savoy was a dizzying, suffocating sea of flashbulbs, champagne flutes, and whispered high-society gossip.Crystal chandeliers hung like frozen waterfalls from the vaulted ceiling, casting a warm amber glow over London's elite. Designers, venture capitalists, and old-money dynasties mingled beneath the gilded arches for the annual European Fashion and Trade Gala.I stood near the edge of the velvet-draped balcony, holding an untouched glass of sparkling water. I wore a bespoke, floor-length gown of midnight-blue silk, its liquid fabric clinging to my waist before trailing gracefully across the floor. The high, structured collar elegantly concealed the faint scar near my hairline, while dark sapphire studs caught the light at my ears."You look breathtaking, Dahlia," Alexander murmured, stepping beside me in an open-collared tuxedo. He offered a polite smile to a passing trade director before turning his grey eyes toward me."Though I notice you ha

Vincent’s POVThe oak doors of the Sports Management boardroom shut, blocking out the senior executives waiting outside.I stood beside the windows, unbuttoning my vest. Behind me lay the preliminary family merger contracts. For six days, I had played the obedient son.I attended board reviews, joined my father for investment calls, and allowed Olivia's family to hint at our coming alliance in press releases.I smiled and nodded, giving my father no reason to suspect a change. To Richard and Olivia, I was a broken man who had accepted his family's demands. They thought they had won."Sir."Marcus's voice came from the doorway. He slipped into the room, locked the double doors behind him, and placed an encrypted flash drive on the glass table."The secondary routing is complete."I turned toward him, my expression hardening."Did the offshore capital transfer clear?""Yes, sir."Marcus opened his laptop and connected the drive, bringing up a secure financial ledger."Two hundred millio

Dahlia’s POVThe medical tape tugged at the fine hairs on my temple as Sarah carefully peeled away the gauze dressing.I studied the fading bruise on my cheekbone and the thin red line near my hairline in the dressing-room mirror. Five days had passed since I left St. Jude’s Hospital against the doctor's advice. My head still ached when I moved too quickly, but the gallery showcase at the end of the week mattered more."You don't have to push yourself this hard, Dahlia," Sarah murmured, placing a clean strip over the wound. "The showcase can be postponed. Everyone knows what happened, and nobody would blame you for recovering first.""No," I replied, my voice carrying a quiet, unyielding edge. "If I postpone the rollout, they win. Whoever sent those men to shatter my car wants me cowering in a hotel room, waiting for the next plane back to Manhattan. I won't give them the satisfaction."Sarah sighed but continued smoothing the edges of the dressing."I know you're determined to prove

  • A Lesson In Forbidden Love   Chapter 128

Vincent's POVThe rain had returned to London, tapping against the high glass windows of my study. The room was dim, illuminated by the amber glow of the fireplace. I sat motionless in the leather armchair, staring at the folder my father had left on my desk. Its pages detailed the destruction he had planned for Dahlia's life: fabricated financial fraud documents that could ruin her studio, investors ready to withdraw their money, and private security contractors prepared to turn her life in London into a nightmare. My hands trembled as I closed the folder.A ragged breath escaped me, my chest tightening beneath the unbearable weight of it all.I had spent five years believing I could escape my father's shadow. I had built my own firm, amassed my own wealth, and convinced myself that power could protect the woman I loved from the darkness within my family. But I was fighting a monster who didn't play by the rules, a man who viewed a young woman's suffering as nothing more than a busin

Vincent’s POV"Pull up the secondary angle. Zoom in on the license plate," I growled, leaning over the dark mahogany desk in my private Mayfair study. The screens in front of me displayed high-definition security footage gathered by my private intelligence team over the last six hours. On the center monitor, the blacked-out SUV pulled out of a Soho alley, followed Dahlia’s coupe, and sped away moments after the assault. My head of security, Marcus, tapped a few keys on his tablet, enhancing the image of the vehicle’s side panel."We ran the partial plate through our contacts in traffic enforcement, sir," Marcus explained. "The vehicle was dumped in an industrial lot near the docks two hours after the incident. It was set on fire to destroy any physical evidence.""And the registration?" I demanded, gripping the edge of the desk so hard my knuckles whitened. "Vehicles like that don't just materialize out of thin air.""It belonged to a private logistics firm registered under the name A

  • A Lesson In Forbidden Love   Chapter 126

Vincent's POV"Where is she?! I said, where the hell is her room?!"I pushed past the head nurse, my dress shoes striking the polished floor as I hurried through the private wing. My cane tapped against the tiles, but I barely noticed the pain in my knee.My heart hammered against my ribs.Twenty minutes earlier, Bruce had called to tell me Dahlia's car had been ambushed, her window smashed, and her body dragged into the street.Five years of separation meant nothing compared to the terror that had seized me when I heard those words.I threw open the door to Room 408.Dahlia lay in the hospital bed, her skin pale, a bandage wrapped around her left temple. Bruises marked her cheek and wrists, and an IV line ran into her hand beside a steadily beeping monitor. My world seemed to stop."Dahlia..." I choked out.I hurried toward her, reaching for her hand, desperate to feel her warmth and reassure myself that she was all right. Before I could reach the bed, someone stepped into my path an
