Chapter 13: Her Animai - Amelia
The intoxicating scent is flooding my senses and I can barely focus. My feet start moving of their own accord in search of the source. I move past a few people and that’s when I see him. At that moment it was like time stopped. All sights and sounds had funnelled out and all I can see is him.
“ANIMAI! HE’S OUR ANIMAI!” Zara starts screaming in my head like a foghorn.
She didn’t have to say it. I knew it as soon as I smelt him. He looks… there are no words to describe him. He is positively the most gorgeous man to ever walk the face of this earth.
He’s 6’5”, with luscious shoulder-length black hair that I desperately want to run my fingers through. He has deeply tanned skin and his green/brown eyes – that reminds me of the forest in spring – are glowing brightly as he stares at me. I think I’ve stopped breathing.

Amelia is on her feet before I can even register what’s going on. Just then a guy in a maroon tux appears in the doorway. “Amelia hurry! Last night was the worst night sleep I have ever had. Well, I guess I can only say that if I actually slept, which I didn’t. How did the best night of my life turn into the worst so quickly? After I finish my meeting with Alpha Lucas I leave the packhouse and drive to Jennifer’s house to check in with the nurse on duty to see how she’s doing. I felt some relief when I saw colour in her cheeks and heard a steady heartbeat. The nurse informed me Jennifer had woken up a couple hours ago but became distressed and was in physical pain, so she was sedated again. The nurses' alternating shifts may have to do this over the next few days.
