Chapter 3 Part 3

Matt wasnt waiting long before Niki arrived, walking out the wooden door to the school. The parking lot had filled up a lot more since they had gotten there earlier that morning, students were arriving and talking amongst themselves and their friends. Matt stood by his car, parked close to the front doors when he saw Niki approaching.

Matt was pacing up and down beside his car, anxiety flowing through his veins, running his hand through his hair a couple of times he was thinking how he was going to tell her and ask her the things he wanted to ask. His nerves grew as she got closer, her hands tucked into the pockets of her tight fitting jeans.

Matt knew she wouldn't like what he had to say, probably wouldn't even want to hear it, especially with her dislike on the situation, so he hoped and prayed she would be understanding enough to take what he had to say to consideration.

“Hey, what do you need,” She asked, stopping a few feet in front of Matt.

“I need your help,” He said, pulling his shoulders to his ears, not meeting Nikis eyes. He felt guilty to a certain extent, not wanting to have to ask her this as he fiddled with his fingers, unable to stand still.

“Whats the matter?” she looked confused and a little concerned at how he was acting.

“I know you're not going to want to hear it but just give me a chance to explain,” he asked, “please,”

“Fine,” She said, crossing her arms in front of her chest in a defensive stance. By the looks of it, she already wasnt in a good mood.

“I found my mate, and she needs a friend,” He said, sounding stupid to his own ears. He was looking at Niki as he confesed this. The words felt strange coming out his mouth, he never thought he'd be asking this, never even crossed his mind.

“What, Who?” she asked frowning.

“Ok, look,” Matt ran his hand through his hair for the millionth time, a bitter taste being left in his mouth as he expected her to not take what he had to say well, “No one can know, not yet,”

“Ok, why?” she asked scowling.

Matt didnt answer, he was thinking of what the best way to tell her was, how to make it less confusing. he was thinking of a way to convince her to help Chloe, even if that ment she wouldn't help him.

“Will you just tell me already?” she said, getting impatient as she tapped her foot on the ground.

“Shes human, my father and I are looking for answers and we think she might know. Now I know its not possible and all that Bull shit that everyones been spewing, but whatever, can you help me?” he asked desperatly.

Nikis eyes widened in shock and curiosity, he could see she in her eyes that she had questions but as she opened her mouth to ask, he cut her off, interrupting her before she could interrogate him.

“It is confusing, I know, but I only know as much as I just told you,” he said, letting it all sink in.

She didnt say anything for a while, the confusion evident in her eyes. “You know I dont like this whole mate thing, so why are you asking me?” she finally said, her scowl deepening as she glared at him.

“Because you're the only other one I trust with this information, and I know you will take care of her” Matt said, getting worried she wouldnt help by the way she was looking at him.

“Wait, other? Who else knows?” she asked, frowning.

“Mark knows,” He said and she nodded. “I know your opinions on the matter but she needs a friend, someone she can trust,”

"And you're not enough?" she asked, raising her eyebrows pointedly. “You can't force a friendship,” Niki deadpanned.

“I'm not trying to force anything, just get to know her and see how it goes, if it doesnt work out, then it doesnt,” Matt said, his eyebrows drawn up, his desperation showing.

“Ok, fine, but I'm not helping you with this whole mate shit, you're on your own there,” she said pointing at him, “And im not fishing for info for you either,” She said glaring.

More cars were pulling in when the first bell rang.

“Deal?” She asked, staring at him with narrowed eyes.

“Yes, just help her where you can,” Matt said.

He didnt care if Niki didnt want to help get answers, he just wanted to see Chloe happy, for her to have someone to talk to, that was all he cared about.
