Anacá

He drove on with a grim look instead of answering me. I fumed at his insensitivity. Couldn’t he just tell me? I couldn’t drive the sinking feeling away. Something was terribly wrong. Why weren’t we going to the hospital where dad was admitted?

He drove on towards Josh’s house and parked his car. “Come on.” He opened the door for me, but I stormed out towards the front porch. I wanted nothing to do with Eros Nikolaou. If anything happened to my dad, I would break all connection with him.

He followed me and rang the doorbell. In my disturbed state, I had forgotten to even knock. The door opened and Uncle Jeremy gave me a haunted look. “Oh, you’re here. Come inside.”

He led us inside while my eyes sought my dad. He usually sat in the living room recliner here in Uncle Jeremy’s house. It was his favorite place. But today, the recliner was vacant. There was no sign of my dad.

“Where’s dad, Uncle Jeremy?” I saw Aunt Dana come into the room, looking shattered.

ErosIt has been three days since I started stalking my wife like a lunatic. What options did I have? She wasn’t taking my calls or responding to my messages. I had no idea what she had in mind. The messages I sent through Hemmingway went unanswered. It seemed they, too, didn’t want us to unite. Were Josh’s parents instigating her against me? Obviously, they had a motive. After Josh and Jordynn’s breakup, they would surely want Anacá to be their daughter-in-law. More so now that they knew about our marriage. Only they had no idea I wasn’t letting my wife go. I would never give Anacá a divorce or an annulment. Ever since the funeral was over, she had hardly stepped out of her house. The only time she did was to walk her dog. It bothered me since she hardly went to the convenience store to replenish her stock. Yet I couldn’t reach out to her. If the dog wasn’t with her, I would have stormed in and whisked her away with me. But I was petrified of dogs. After being bitten at nine, once

Anacá It had been almost ten days since I lost my dad. But my life had come to a standstill. I would have lost the will to live had Lucy not been there. Last night, Aunt Dana insisted I have dinner with them. I had completely forgotten, but Josh arrived to pick me up and then dropped me off. It was surprising he took so much interest in me. He hadn’t done so much in the last eighteen months of my association with him.Yet it didn’t cheer me up. After my dad’s death, I drifted apart from the Hemmingway family as well. With Jess busy dating someone she met last week, I was now totally alone. I had stopped looking for a job, even. What was the use? No one wanted me. My phone buzzed with an incoming call from an unknown number. But I had no wish to talk to anyone. I left the phone on the sofa and went out to the balcony. The evening breeze cooled my face, and I closed my eyes to feel the fresh air against my skin. A commotion farther down the street made me open my eyes and look. I sa

AnacáI drove home in a better frame of mind, excited to start work the next day. I didn’t mind signing a bond with such a reputable company. It only meant they couldn’t throw me out of the job for five years. I felt happy. Maybe dad was there nearby, blessing me. I reached home only to find Josh sitting on my porch. I parked the car and alighted, my good mood going downhill. “You? What are you doing here, Josh? Don’t you have any work to do?” After last night, I had sworn never to see his face again. But here he was, shamelessly, waiting for me. He sprang to his feet and glared at me. “No, I don’t. Thanks to you and your ass*ole husband. He threw me out of Krypton.” I glared back at the infuriating guy. “Don’t drag me into this, Josh. You dug your own grave when you insulted your boss last night. You should be thankful he didn’t sue you for multiple reasons. And after the lies you spewed out of your mouth about me, I won’t entertain you here. Leave before I lose my mind.”He gave

I was here for work and intended to stick to my business. His fingers gripped my arm to stop me from moving away. “I’m not. What the f*ck are you wearing?” His gaze swept over me, taking in my old clothes. What could I do? I hadn’t found the time to buy new clothes. Maybe I would with my first salary. “Why? What’s wrong with them? You can throw me out if you don’t like them.” He stared at me briefly before releasing me and walking away to his desk. “That won’t happen, Anacá. We will buy you appropriate clothes on behalf of the company.”I gaped at the insolent guy. “But I don’t need your charity. I can buy my own clothes.” “My decision is final. No more arguments. You’re still my wife and I would expect you to dress accordingly. Now, I don’t have all day to deal with you. I’ll show you your cubicle, and you can get started.” I wa

Anacá The door closed after Mr. Ford left, and Eros turned to face me. There was an awkward silence between us. I knew what he would say now. He would want me to move in with him. “Umm, I’ll get your coffee.” Eager to escape, I turned towards the door. “No need. I’ve ordered from the café downstairs. They’ll deliver it here.” “Oh, then I’ll wrap up the work you gave me.” He had asked me to go through the feedback emails and respond to them. Then there was the added task of updating his schedule.“That can wait. Sit here with me.” I was about to protest, but a knock on the door made me stop. Eros used his remote control to unlock the door. It was a server from the café downstairs, carrying a tray laden with food and coffee. “Good morning, sir, ma’am. I’ve brought your order.” He entered with a smile and placed the tray on the coffee table in the corner of Eros’s office. “Thank you, Markos,” said Eros, locking the door after he left. “Join me, Anacá. ErosI was in a dilemma. While I wanted her to move in with me, I couldn’t overcome my fear of dogs. There seemed no other way than to accept them in my life. “I’m intolerant towards dogs.” She gave me a weird look and shrugged. “I can understand. I’ll head home then. See you tomorrow. Don’t worry, I’ll be here on time.” Anacá was about to leave when I grabbed hold of her hand. She hardly gave me time to get a grip on myself. It was such a tough decision for me. I sucked in a deep breath. What was the worst thing that could happen? The dog would bite me, right? I would end up with shots. But at least Anacá would be near me. At least I could face my dad with pride. He couldn’t mock me for getting married without his permission. But mostly I would get to see Anacá 24/7. “You can move in with your dog. I’ll have your car delivered home. So, shall we go?” The shocked look on her face satisfied me. I waited for her to protest, but she shrugged and followed me out. “Umm, can we go to m

Anacá He drove on with a smug look on his face. It seemed he felt happy to rile me up. His words were so disturbing, they echoed in my head. I had thought he had forgotten about the kiss! So would he expect me to kiss him once we reached his house? More than a kiss, I wondered if I would have to perform my wifely duties now. “What’s got you so worked up?” He chuckled, enjoying my state. “I’m worried about meeting your parents.” I sighed, my heart sinking at the thought. “It’s just dad and my extended family: uncles, aunts, and cousins. They usually avoid me. So you can relax.” He steered the car into a heavily guarded, luxurious four-story condominium in the most sought-after location of the Kifissia-Kelafari neighborhood. “Is this your home or your dad’s?” I needed to be sure. “The building belongs to me. Right now, I only occupy the top two floors. Maybe I will spread out when we multiply.” He cast a mischievous look in my direction, but I ignored his remark. To multiply, we w

Anacá I walked into the bedroom while Lucy preferred following Eros to the kitchen. It seemed more than me; his charm had bowled over my pet dog. I entered the enormous walk-in closet that was almost empty. With only one side occupied, I had the rest of the space to myself for my new and old belongings. This was a work I hated, but what choice did I have? I couldn’t call Jess here to help me. In fact, Jess had completely disappeared from my life. Even my calls to her went unanswered. I wondered what she was up to. “Woof!” Lucy trotted inside to rub her body against my legs. I stroked her head and smiled. “Where’s your new buddy? Did you ditch him downstairs?” I chuckled at my joke. “Why? Are you missing me? I’m all yours.” His voice echoed from behind, and I jumped out of my skin. Wasn’t he downstairs making dinner for us? I whirled around to find him leaning against the doorframe of the closet. His words echoed in my head. I’m all yours. He was mine. A warm flush crept up my c

Eros I gaped at my lawyer for a second. “I don’t have a choice. My uncle threatened my dad, and he handed half the company shares over to him. Now he’s an equal shareholder, and he wants access to the business.” “You shouldn’t concede. You’re the owner, Mr. Nikolaou. I think you should revise your Shareholder/Founder Agreement first. Still, I would advise you not to give them enough power in the company. Treat them as employees and have them sign the Employment Agreement like all the other employees. In case of a breach, you can drag them to court.” “Yes, I was thinking of doing the same. I’ll call a Board Meeting to discuss this with the members before deciding.” “I would still advise you against it. In the meantime, you must check up on your father. Maybe he’s under some sort of pressure. Why else would he sign his dream company, his hard work away to his evil brother?” I nodded. “Yes, I was suspicious, too. Maybe I’ll give him a surprise visit today.”“I can accompany you, Mr.

ErosThe moment I drove through the gates of my house, I knew something was wrong. The guards stole glances and avoided eye contact with me. I parked my car and walked inside, only to see the guards at the front door busy talking. “What’s going on? Why aren’t you attentive today?” I barked at them, my mood worse now. Startled, they turned to look at me as if they had seen a ghost! Were they so busy with themselves that they hadn’t seen my car enter? “Oh, good afternoon, Mr. Nikolaou!” gasped one. “G-good afternoon, sir. We were attentive all morning,” said the other. “Did anyone visit since I left last night?” I watched them minutely, noticing their hesitation. “No, sir. No one arrived, but Mrs. Nikolaou left with her pet dog and luggage this morning.”My heart sank, although I had expected it. I was an ass for leaving her last night. Maybe I should have broken into her room and patched things up with her. I tried to stop myself from reacting, although the news shattered me tot

Eros“Why do we have to give up on our dreams and business, Dad? You’ve worked hard to build it from scratch. So what if we’re adopted? Grandpa had signed it to us.” I paced the office in a fit of rage. This was an injustice, and my dad was supporting it wholeheartedly. Dad gave me a pleading look. “You still don’t get it, do you? Enriquez will kill you and Anacá. Do you want to lose your lives for the business? You have Krypton, don’t you? It’s not like you’ll be on the streets without Emerald.” I stopped and sat down beside him, ready for war. “I’ll file an FIR against him. I’ll hire bodyguards, but I refuse to give up on what’s rightfully mine. Why did you bend, Dad? You should have discussed with me before signing off the company shares to them.” He sighed and shook his head, looking at least ten years older, helpless and defeated. I had never seen my dad in this light. He was a born fighter. “I panicked, Eros. I can’t afford to lose you.” I sighed too. I could understand his

ErosRemorse shunted through me as I stood at her closed door, begging to be let in. What had I done in my jealousy? Why didn’t I believe her? She had saved her virginity for me, and I destroyed everything between us. “Anacá, please, can you open the door once? I’m sorry.” I waited, but there was no response from inside. Did she lose consciousness? Guilt ate me up. How did I let the monster in me take over? All my life, I had lived recklessly with no one to teach me a thing about relationships. I f*cked available who*es who expected nothing but a rough ride. It had become a habit only to fulfill my needs, but tonight was different. Anacá was my wife, my better half. She didn’t deserve this.I had let my jealousy control my mind and body. How did I stoop so low? I had waited for so long to make love to Anacá, to consummate our marriage. Now I had fu*ked it all up with my insensitivity. She would never forgive me for being an as*hole to her, for snatching away what she had treasured

Anacá We tumbled into the bed together, and I watched him hover over me. His hazel eyes held my gaze, while his arms on either side of my body held me captive.“Are you sure?” He lifted an eyebrow at me, and the look he gave me was so full of heat, I ignored the anger bubbling inside him. I knew he still hadn’t believed or forgiven me. I nodded, and he watched me intently. Yes, I was his. I had already surrendered my body, mind, and soul to him. He was the only one I loved and the only one I would belong to. But now wasn’t the time to confess. He wouldn’t believe me. It was time to show him through my actions. It was time to prove my love for him. His fingers worked on the buttons of my top while his eyes held my gaze. I knew he was giving me ample space to back out. But I didn’t want to. I wanted to please him tonight. He eased the top out of me, still with his eyes on me. A hot flush crept up my body as his eyes drank me in. The way he looked at me made my body flush. I had neve

AnacáHe looked so furious, I knew what was in store for me. Even Aunt Dana was ill at ease. “We asked her to stay back with us, Eros,” said Uncle Jeremy, glaring at Josh. However, Josh looked quite pleased with himself for causing a rift between my husband and me. I repented, having forgiven him. He didn’t deserve it. With a slight nod towards Josh’s parents, Eros gripped my arm and strode out, pulling me along. Lucy, too, followed meekly, sensing trouble. Once we were outside, he pulled me towards his car in a fit of rage. “Get in. This is unforgivable, Anacá. What the f*ck were you doing here with Josh?” “Please, stop! I can explain.” I tried to get free, but his grip on my arm felt like a steel band, refusing to loosen. “There’s nothing to explain. Why did you lie to me, Anacá? I asked you repeatedly.” He shoved me inside his car and let Lucy in before walking around to the driver’s side. “I went to visit Aunt Dana and Uncle Jeremy, not Josh. I had agreed to stay back for Aunt Dana and Uncle Jeremy. They had done much for me, and I was indebted to them. But Josh seemed to get other ideas. I didn’t bother talking to him. So, he sat there sulking and glaring at me all the time. “Do you want to learn? You can make them for your husband. Do you know it’s a sure-shot way to win a man’s heart!” chuckled Aunt Dana. I opened my eyes, surprised to hear her joke in front of her crazy son. “Oh!” My cheeks were stained with color. Uncle Jeremy laughed too, while Josh glared daggers at me and his mom. “I’m sure she has touched his heart. Or he wouldn’t have pursued and married her!”“I don’t believe this! Are you supporting the man who has destroyed my career?” Josh rose in a fit of rage. “No, son. We’re just discussing Anacá’s husband. You have no reason to overreact,

Anacá “I’m speechless! How did you convince Dad so easily? I had been trying for the last couple of years.” Eros drove away from his family mansion, looking flustered. “I hardly tried to convince him. All I did was offer to cook a good meal for him. My dad loved my cooking, and I miss feeding him.” I sighed at the memory. “Anyway, the place wasn’t conducive to his mental and physical well-being, Eros. There was so much toxicity, it was suffocating me.” I pondered over Acacia’s warning. Should I inform Eros about my hunch? I knew his extended family was planning something against him.“Yes, I know. That’s the reason I rarely come here. But this time, the situation was worse. So, did anyone insult you in my absence?” He glanced at me before steering the car onto the main roads. “No. Only Acacia warned me this would be the last time I could look around the mansion. She said that soon the house would belong to your uncle. I have a feeling they’re planning something against you, Eros.”

Why don’t you apply at other companies?” I had no wish to induct him into my business. I would have avoided it if Dad hadn’t been so adamant. But with dad supporting them, I had no say in the matter. Victor had been trying to convince me for the last forty minutes in my dad’s study. It made me feel suffocated. Why couldn’t he get the idea?He gave me a shocked look. “Do you expect a Nikolaou to go begging others for a job? We are one of the top business families in the country, bro. Wouldn’t it tarnish your reputation?”I shook my head. “Nope. I’m an open-minded guy. Applying for jobs isn’t begging. With your qualifications, you’re serving a company, helping a business in return for money. It’s better than bothering others for money. That’s begging.” I coul
