Chapter 22

[Aurora's Perspective]

On the twenty-seventh day of my imprisonment, I finally learned how to disguise myself. I stopped resisting. I stopped refusing food and even started talking to Damian of my own accord.

"The weather's so nice today."

I stood by the window, my voice soft.

Damian set the document in his hand down, a hint of surprise and joy in his eyes. "Aurora?"

"Yeah." I turned and smiled at him. "I've thought it through. Since I can't escape, I might as well accept reality."

He crossed the room, wanting to pull me into his arms. I didn't move away and simply let him embrace me.

"I knew you would understand." His voice trembled. "We can start over."

"Yes." I gently stroked his back. "Start over."

"Can I rest a bit now? I feel so tired," I continued.

He relaxed and soothed me, "I'll eat with you later. You get some sleep first." Then, he left for his study to work.

The moment he was gone, I pulled a micro-communicator from under the mattress.
