"So, are you going to beg for him?" Maria asked.

Her frosty eyes and ice-cold expression made Richard pause.

He considered it for a moment, then said, "Trent will apologize to you on his knees. But as for whether he marries that woman or not, that's the Freemans' business. Best for us not to get involved."

Maria clenched her fist and shot him a sneer. "What if I want to get involved?"

Richard was stunned.

"This isn't up for discussion. No one gets to plead for Trent," Maria scoffed. "Or do you just sympathize with him? Do you really think women are that easy to fool and abandon? That they deserve to have children, but not even get recognized in the end?"

Richard's brow furrowed, his gaze complicated. He sensed there was something more behind Maria's words. This was not just about Trent, but aimed at him too.
