Celeste’s POV

I stared at my phone like it might magically tell me where he’d gone. The nurse’s words echoed in my head—He’s been discharged.

Discharged? Already?

He’d barely been able to stand up and walk yesterday without wincing. His injuries weren’t minor, and now he was… what, walking around like nothing happened?

Unbelievable.

I hit redial. Straight to voicemail. Again. I called a third time, pacing in the hallway outside the salon, my heart pounding like I was the one with fractured ribs.

On the fourth try, the line finally clicked.

“Celeste.”

His voice was slightly hoarse, like he hadn’t spoken in hours—or had been speaking too much.

“Are you insane?” I snapped before I could stop myself. “You just got discharged, Damien. You shouldn’t even be standing, let alone—what, leaving the hospital and disappearing without a word?”

He sighed. “I didn’t disappear. I went where I needed to be.”

I gripped the phone tighter. “Which is…?”

“I’m back at the office.”

I stopped in my tracks. “Y

  • A Ruthless Revenge: the Billionaire's Ex Wife Is Back   CHAPTER 133

Celeste’s POVThe cheerful café chatter around me should have been enough to lift my spirits that morning. But I’d barely touched my croissant, just kept shredding it into flaky little scraps like it had personally offended me.Across from me, Harper was watching me like she was debating whether to poke a sleeping bear.“So,” she said finally, tentatively, “how are you feeling after… yesterday?”I didn’t look up. I knew what she meant—Damien. “I’m fine,” I said, maybe a little too fast. “Just tired. So many things have been happening.” “Mm.” She took a sip. “Because you looked anything but fine when you ran out of that room.”“Harper.”She held up her hands. “Okay, okay. No poking the bear.”I gave her a small, grateful smile. Truth was, I didn’t know how I felt. “Let’s talk about you,” I said, forcing my voice to lighten. “The biker gang situation sounds insane. What happened with the influencer? Any update?”Harper let out a groan, slumping in her seat. “Ugh, don’t remind me. Her

Celeste’s POVI froze in place, the air around me tightening like a noose.Break up with Theo.My mind reeled, struggling to even process what Damien had just said. My heart slammed against my ribs — not out of longing, not out of old love — but out of shock.I stared at him, barely breathing. Was he serious? For a split second, I almost laughed — bitter and breathless — at myself. How stupid was I to stand outside his door, thinking I owed him thanks? That maybe, just maybe, he’d changed. Maybe all of this wasn’t just about him playing the hero again, or worse, refusing to accept that I had really, finally, moved on.His voice cut sharply through the chaos in my head. “Celeste,” Damien rasped, eyes wild, voice cracking, “if you leave him—if you just leave him—I’ll give you everything. Anything. You want property? It’s yours. Shares? Done. You could walk out of here the uncrowned queen of this city, with every piece of the Vaughn empire, even the mafia, at your feet.”I took a step ba

Damien’s POVI couldn’t breathe. Not properly—not with the way her words kept slamming into me like fists.“I’m not hiding anything from you,” Celeste said quietly, lifting her chin. “Theo confessed to me before… but at that time, I was busy trying to survive, trying to gather evidence against Genevieve. I didn’t… I couldn’t deal with any of it then.”Her words hit like cold water, shocking the breath right out of my chest.I stared at her, pulse roaring in my ears. She kept going, voice soft but clear, as if she had rehearsed this in her mind a thousand times. “And when everything finally calmed down—when Genevieve was gone, when the pieces started falling—I realized… I wanted to give it a chance. With him.”The room tilted, just slightly. My heart was a drum, pounding, erratic.I shook my head slowly, like it would undo what I’d just heard. “No…”Before I even realized it, my hand shot out—I grabbed her wrist, gripping harder than I meant to, fingers locking around her like she migh

Celeste’s POV“Celeste.”His voice stopped me cold.I stood there, hand still on the door, fingers tightening just slightly. My heart thudded painfully against my ribs.“Please,” Damien said, quieter this time. “I’m not… trying to use any of this to manipulate you… Please don’t think that I’m being kind to you and helping you out just because I want to take control of you in some way.”I drew in a shaky breath, eyes slipping shut for a moment.“You don’t need to keep facing me like I’m some trap waiting to snap shut.” His voice cracked just faintly, but enough to make something twist inside me. “I’m not asking for anything. I just… I just want to make amends.”Slowly, guiltily, I turned. He sat there on the hospital bed, bandaged, pale, self-deprecating in a way I had never seen before. Not the fierce, untouchable Damien Vaughn who had once towered over everything in my life. Not the man who ruled boardrooms and had people scrambling to please him. No—this was someone raw. Someone a l

Celeste’s POVThe sounds in the room came to an abrupt halt. I looked Damien straight in the eyes. “Is there something else?”“I…” He hesitated. “Celeste, I’m not trying to pressure you, truly. But I just— I was hoping you might start to see things differently…”“I finally found it—Alginate Dressing! No idea where the nurse stashed it.”The doctor burst in suddenly, cutting Damien off mid-sentence. As I listened to Damien’s frustrated groan, I finally felt myself relax.“Alright, Mr. Vaughn,” the doctor said briskly, setting things down. “We’re going to adjust your medication and replace the dressing.”Damien didn’t look at me, didn’t look at Harper—just stared blankly ahead. As the doctor worked, he talked almost absently. “Now remember, no heavy movements, no getting the area wet, and ideally, have someone familiar help you at home for the next few days. Most of my patients rely on close family or friends to assist—people they trust, someone they’re comfortable with.”He glanced up
