Celeste’s POV

I stirred the sugar into my tea, watching it dissolve slowly in the pale amber swirl. Velvet & Vine was quieter than I expected for this hour, but I didn’t mind. In fact, I was grateful.

The sunlight poured through the wide glass windows, filtering through the hanging ferns and potted blooms that adorned every inch of the café. It smelled like lemon cake and jasmine tea and a hint of freshly watered soil. It felt like a hug from the universe.

I exhaled slowly, trying to push away the strange fog of emotions still clinging to me. The sobbing. The embrace. The way I’d just collapsed into Alain’s arms like he’d been mine to hold.

What the hell was that?

I shook my head, almost amused at myself. I wasn’t the type to lose it like that. I mean, sure, the past few weeks had been a wrecking ball of emotions, but I’d been holding it together. Or at least pretending well enough.

And yet… the way I’d felt when Auntie Eleanor’s fingers moved. The surge of hope. The heartbreak of not

Celeste’s POVIt was strange, this feeling—like the beginning of something warm and easy. Not necessarily anything romantic. Alain had a calming presence, like the breeze here in the countryside—gentle, quiet, content to let things unfold. And I liked it.Which made me uneasy. As we wandered through the rows of food booths, laughter rising and falling between bites of flaky tarts and crispy pommes frites, I felt it again—that pull. Like maybe the universe was nudging me toward something new.But the guilt wouldn’t go away.No matter how much I tried to lean into the moment, there was a sliver of heaviness pressing on my ribs.Maybe it was because, in truth, I still didn’t know where things stood with Theo.Since I arrived in France, he hadn’t called, hadn’t texted beyond the occasional polite check-in. There were no “I miss you” messages. No updates about when he might follow. No hints of a plan.He hadn’t acted like a boyfriend at all.And sometimes I wondered—if he had no intention

Harper’s POVThe clay wheel hummed softly beneath my palms as I half-listened to Alain explain how to pull the clay upward. Celeste was beside me, already getting into it, her brow furrowed in concentration as she tried to shape something vaguely cup-like.I, on the other hand, was just trying not to make mine look like an overcooked breadstick. The other side of me was still empty—some latecomers were trickling in after browsing other booths. The instructor had just said we were welcome to join midway, and sure enough, I heard a scuffle of feet, a rustle of canvas, and a chair scraping across the stone floor.I turned casually. My breath hitched. Michael.Out of all the empty seats left, he picked the one next to me. I stiffened, eyes darting forward as if the spinning wheel in front of me held the secrets of the universe."Hey," he said softly, settling beside me. I gave him a nod that probably looked more like a twitch. “Hi.”Alain came over to show him the basics. “It’s simple on

Celeste’s POV“You know this is dangerous for us, right?” Harper whispered as we stepped into the warmly lit courtyard of the art fair. “Too many beautiful things. Zero self-control.”I laughed. “We’ll just set a limit.”“Sure. And then break it ten minutes in.”The village square was lit up like something out of a dream—lanterns floating on strings between cobblestone buildings, a soft breeze carrying the scent of lavender and woodsmoke. Locals and tourists moved from booth to booth, sipping on wine, laughing, pausing to admire sculptures, watercolor portraits, and handcrafted jewelry. A live cellist played near the corner, his melancholic music adding a tender note to the evening air.We were in the heart of the French countryside, and it felt like a scene I’d once only seen in books—far away from press scandals, boardroom explosions, and heartbreaking stares.“I told you this was going to be worth the drive,” I said, nudging her.Harper let out a breath. “You were right. I already

Damien’s POVThe second I opened my eyes and saw her face, I jerked back like I’d been slapped.“Jesus, Amaya—what the hell?”She was leaning over me, eyes wide, lips parted like she hadn’t even thought about how insane this looked.“Damien—please, just listen to me—”“No.” I stood quickly, my tone sharper than I intended. “You need to leave.”Her hands flew up, trembling. “I swear, I didn’t plan any of this. You have to believe me. I didn’t leak anything. I didn’t call anyone. I—I just came because I needed to see you, and—”“I said stop.” My voice was ice, and it made her flinch. “You think I’m stupid?” I snapped. “You think I don’t know a setup when I see one? You knew I wasn’t thinking clearly, you took advantage of that. What do you even get from this, huh? Satisfaction? Leverage? You planning to blackmail me next?”Her face crumbled. “What? Damien, no!”I scoffed, already regretting every second of this morning. “Just leave me the hell alone. I’ve had enough of your games.”Her

Damien’s POVThe moment the cab pulled up to my house, I leaned in through the open window and asked the driver if he had a dash cam. He looked at me like I’d asked if his steering wheel was detachable.“Of course, sir. Company policy.”Lucky day.I exhaled, tension easing just a fraction. “Do you have access to the footage from earlier?”He nodded. “You’ll need to call the hotline, but I can give you my ID number so they can match the trip.”“Perfect.” I typed his name and plate number into my phone and handed him a generous tip before he pulled away.Once inside, I fired off a message to Darrow:[Dash cam footage from the cab I took earlier might have captured something. Sending driver info. Cross-check it. Find out who the hell set that up.]Next, I headed straight to the shower. Scalding water. No thoughts. Just steam.Let it all melt off. When I stepped out, towel slung low around my hips, I headed straight for the wine shelf. Poured myself a glass of something dry and sharp—cou
