Celeste’s POV

The laughter lingered like the echo of something fragile and new. Candles flickered low, their light glinting off half-empty wine glasses and the crumbs of the strawberry mille-feuille Harper had bought earlier.

From the terrace, I could still hear Colette and Alain’s voices—soft, animated, full of life. They were talking about glaze colors, I think, or the layout of his exhibit.

The sound blended with the quiet melody playing from the speakers, filling the room with a sense of calm.

Viv’s laughter pulled my attention back to the couch. She had her phone in hand, scrolling, eyes shining. “Oh, look at this,” she said, tilting the screen toward Nathaniel. “Michael at eight months. You were such a handful.”

Michael groaned. “Oh no, not that one.”

Nathaniel’s mouth curved into a rare grin. “That’s the face he made every time someone told him no.”

Everyone burst into laughter—Harper’s especially, bright and easy.

I smiled too, letting the warmth of it all soak in. For a mo

Nico’s POVThe low, steady drone of the jet engines vibrated through the floor of the private terminal. Morning sunlight bled across the tarmac, glinting off the sleek body of the Lancaster jet waiting for takeoff. I should’ve admired it—it was, after all, paid for in part by my brilliance and bad decisions—but all I could think about was the pair of men standing at either side of me like I was a piece of cargo that might try to escape.Nathaniel stood a few feet ahead, crisp in his tailored coat, speaking with the pilot. He turned as I approached, hands clasped behind his back, the wind catching the edge of his jacket.“You’re really not going to tell us anything more about Genevieve?” he asked. His voice was calm, but there was an edge underneath—one I’d learned to recognize since childhood.I gave him a thin smile. “I’ve told you everything I know. I’ve lost contact with her. You’ve got her usual numbers, her men, her fixer. That’s all I’ve got left.”He narrowed his eyes. “I thin

Damien’s POVThe morning light spilling through the estate windows didn’t warm a damn thing. Everything felt cold, muted—the hallways, the garden, even the people moving quietly from room to room.Michael’s estate had become a war room, but the longer the silence stretched, the more it felt like a mausoleum.I stood by the window of his study, phone pressed to my ear, listening to yet another curt update from one of our contacts. Nothing. Still nothing. Across the room, Michael hung up his own call. The look he gave me said enough. We didn’t have to speak to know we were both circling the same sinking truth.Harper’s voice drifted in from the next room, soft but edged with worry. She was with Auntie Eleanor, trying to get her to take some tea. The older woman had barely slept since the crash, pacing, praying, staring out the window as if Celeste might appear at the gate any minute.I turned back toward Michael. He was leaning over the desk, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “The polic

Genevieve’s POVI woke to the sound of birds. For a second, I thought I was dead. The light was too soft, the air too still. Then the pain in my shoulder hit — sharp, real, anchoring. I blinked, squinting against the sunlight slanting through a window. Morning.A cabin.Wooden walls, low ceiling, the faint smell of pine and smoke. My coat was gone, folded neatly over a chair near the bed. A mug sat on the table, steam curling lazily from it. Everything looked… ordinary. Cozy, even. What the hell.I pushed myself up, wincing as my shoulder protested. The movement tugged at something beneath my shirt, and I froze. My fingers brushed over gauze — clean, tight, properly done. Someone had tended the wound.Someone had helped me.The memory of last night came in fragments: the rain, the forest, the ATV sputtering out, and then—hands. Strong arms grabbing me from behind. The struggle, my nails catching skin, a muffled curse. I’d fought until my strength bled out. And then darkness.I turned

Nico’s POV“You almost destroyed everything I built.”I looked up from the chair where they’d dumped me, wrists still sore from the zip ties his men had only just removed. My laugh came out thin, hoarse. “Good evening to you too, Nathaniel.”He stood by the window, framed against the gray light spilling in from outside. The mountains were black silhouettes beyond the glass, the clouds curling low over them. I’d forgotten how beautiful this place could look—like the edge of the world pretending to be civilized.“You vanished with company funds,” he said evenly. “Millions. You laundered money through names that could be traced back to me. Do you have any idea what that means?”“Yeah,” I said. “It means I got caught.”Nathaniel turned, and for the first time, I saw it—the fury he was trying to choke down. It was in his jaw, in the measured way he crossed the room. His cuff links gleamed like little weapons.“I built this empire from nothing,” he said. “Do you think I’ll let my own brothe

Damien’s POV“Fan out through the forest!” I shouted, the words tearing out of me like fire. “Don’t stop until you find her—dead or alive, I don’t care which. Just find her!”“Yes, sir!” Jake’s voice cut through the downpour. He was already barking orders into his radio, sending the team scattering into the drenched woods, flashlights slicing through the darkness like erratic lightning.I stood there at the edge of the trail, soaked to the bone, breathing hard. The rain tasted like metal. My pulse hadn’t slowed since I’d pulled the trigger. I hadn’t meant to hit her—God, I just wanted to stop her before she did something stupid—but the image of her clutching her shoulder and driving into the woods kept looping in my head like a curse.“Boss!” Jake called out again, breaking through my thoughts as he jogged back toward me, mud splattering his boots. “We’ve got another situation.”I turned, the words coming out harsher than I intended. “What now?”He hesitated. “It’s your mother. We—uh—

Genevieve’s POVMy boots slipped on the slick stones as I sprinted past the empty veranda of Isadora’s beach house, the wind clawing at my coat.I could hear him behind me. “Genevieve!” Damien’s voice tore through the rain. “Stop!”I didn’t look back. I couldn’t. The flash of lightning gave me a glimpse of the ATV parked near the stables—the one Isadora’s men used to patrol the property. My pulse pounded in rhythm with the thunder. The keys bit into my palm where I’d been clutching them. I yanked the cover off the ATV, slid into the seat, my soaked coat tangling around my legs. My fingers were shaking so badly I almost dropped the keys.“Hey, stop right now or I’ll shoot!” His voice was closer now, too close.“Leave me alone, Damien!” I shouted. I jammed the key into the ignition and twisted hard. The engine coughed, sputtered, then roared to life. The headlights cut a pale tunnel through the rain, glinting off the puddles like broken mirrors.“Don’t do this!” Damien shouted, his foo
