Celeste’s POV

“Alright… let’s see what you could become.”

The words slipped from my lips in a whisper, barely louder than the sound of the morning breeze. I turned slowly in the middle of the empty room, taking in the bare walls, the smooth wooden floors, the tall windows that bathed everything in sunlight.

Michael had told me this room could be my studio someday. Back then, I only smiled and didn’t really think much about it.

But standing here now, with the quiet pressing close, I could almost see it—the space coming alive.

A long table by the window for my sketches. Mannequins along that wall, draped in half-finished dresses. Shelves of fabric, ribbons, patterns… and the faint scent of thread and chalk dust in the air.

I closed my eyes and let the vision settle, warm and fragile, like something that had been waiting too long to breathe.

Maybe I could try again.

The thought startled me a little. It had been so long since I’d allowed myself to imagine anything past survival—past waki

Nico’s POV“You almost destroyed everything I built.”I looked up from the chair where they’d dumped me, wrists still sore from the zip ties his men had only just removed. My laugh came out thin, hoarse. “Good evening to you too, Nathaniel.”He stood by the window, framed against the gray light spilling in from outside. The mountains were black silhouettes beyond the glass, the clouds curling low over them. I’d forgotten how beautiful this place could look—like the edge of the world pretending to be civilized.“You vanished with company funds,” he said evenly. “Millions. You laundered money through names that could be traced back to me. Do you have any idea what that means?”“Yeah,” I said. “It means I got caught.”Nathaniel turned, and for the first time, I saw it—the fury he was trying to choke down. It was in his jaw, in the measured way he crossed the room. His cuff links gleamed like little weapons.“I built this empire from nothing,” he said. “Do you think I’ll let my own brothe

Damien’s POV“Fan out through the forest!” I shouted, the words tearing out of me like fire. “Don’t stop until you find her—dead or alive, I don’t care which. Just find her!”“Yes, sir!” Jake’s voice cut through the downpour. He was already barking orders into his radio, sending the team scattering into the drenched woods, flashlights slicing through the darkness like erratic lightning.I stood there at the edge of the trail, soaked to the bone, breathing hard. The rain tasted like metal. My pulse hadn’t slowed since I’d pulled the trigger. I hadn’t meant to hit her—God, I just wanted to stop her before she did something stupid—but the image of her clutching her shoulder and driving into the woods kept looping in my head like a curse.“Boss!” Jake called out again, breaking through my thoughts as he jogged back toward me, mud splattering his boots. “We’ve got another situation.”I turned, the words coming out harsher than I intended. “What now?”He hesitated. “It’s your mother. We—uh—

Genevieve’s POVMy boots slipped on the slick stones as I sprinted past the empty veranda of Isadora’s beach house, the wind clawing at my coat.I could hear him behind me. “Genevieve!” Damien’s voice tore through the rain. “Stop!”I didn’t look back. I couldn’t. The flash of lightning gave me a glimpse of the ATV parked near the stables—the one Isadora’s men used to patrol the property. My pulse pounded in rhythm with the thunder. The keys bit into my palm where I’d been clutching them. I yanked the cover off the ATV, slid into the seat, my soaked coat tangling around my legs. My fingers were shaking so badly I almost dropped the keys.“Hey, stop right now or I’ll shoot!” His voice was closer now, too close.“Leave me alone, Damien!” I shouted. I jammed the key into the ignition and twisted hard. The engine coughed, sputtered, then roared to life. The headlights cut a pale tunnel through the rain, glinting off the puddles like broken mirrors.“Don’t do this!” Damien shouted, his foo

Michael’s POVThe wind off the coast was a living thing, cold and sharp, slapping against my face hard enough to sting. Somewhere below the cliff, the sea kept hurling itself against the rocks — relentless, merciless. I couldn’t tell anymore where the sound of the waves ended and the pounding in my head began.Soline’s face was pale, streaked with rain and mud. “He sounded scared. He said to help him, then the line just got cut off.”“She could still be alive,” Harper said quickly, too quickly. She turned to me, eyes wide, searching my face for confirmation, for hope. “Right? Michael, she could be holding on somewhere—maybe she—”“Yeah.” My voice came out rough, almost unrecognizable. “Yeah, she could.”I forced the words out like they could build a bridge to belief. If I said them enough times, maybe I’d start to believe them too.But my chest felt like it was collapsing from the inside. The air here was heavy, thick with salt and diesel from the rescue trucks. Lights flashed red and

Harper’s POVThunder ripped through the sky.“No, no, no…” The words kept falling out of my mouth, useless against the wind and rain.I stood at the edge of the coastal road, raincoat clinging to my skin, my hair plastered against my face. The storm had rolled in fast, swallowing the sea in sheets of black and silver. The flashing red and blue lights from the patrol cars turned the world into chaos — shadows running, voices shouting over the roar of the surf.Michael was already talking to one of the officers, his voice sharp, urgent. I barely heard them. My eyes were fixed on the jagged break in the guardrail, the twisted metal where the car had gone through. It didn’t feel real.A local fisherman — soaked to the bone — was describing what he’d seen, his accent thick and voice trembling. “I was mending my nets there,” he pointed toward the rocks, “when I heard tires screeching. And lots of gunshots. The car… it lost control while being chased. It flew right off that bend and went st

Nico’s POVBefore I could even lift my gun, the first shot went off — a deafening crack that split the air like thunder. The bullet tore past my ear, close enough that I felt the heat of it graze my skin before it buried itself in the wall behind me. A warning shot. Missed — on purpose. They didn’t want me dead. For a heartbeat, I froze, caught between relief and dread. That hesitation was all they needed. One of them lunged, a blur of black. I fired, grazing his shoulder. His snarl was low, animalistic. Before I could reset my aim, another came from the left — faster. His fist slammed into my ribs so hard it stole the breath right out of me.The gun slipped from my hand, clattering under a table.Pain ripped through my side. I swung anyway, catching one across the jaw. He grunted, stumbled — but then a boot caught me in the gut, doubling me over.“Bastards!” I spat, staggering back, blood slick on my tongue. “Who sent you?”No one answered. Just the rhythmic crunch of boots, the low
