Chapter 10: Another Reunion

They stood in the living room area in silence with their heads lowered, unable to look each other in the eyes.

“Does your girlfriend know that you’re here?” Allison asked stiffly.

“No,” Matthew answered simply.

“Then what are you doing here, Matt?”

Although she asked him, she knew why he came. For a man of his wealth and status, it wouldn’t be difficult to do a quick background check on people as well as figure out their jobs, family relations, and addresses. After that lie she made up on the spot about a nonexistent husband, he was bound to come sooner or later.

He had always hated being lied to.

Allison smiled wryly at the memory.

“Please stop trying to push me away, Allison,” Matthew said quietly. “I’m not here to fight with you. I just want to help you.”

“And what makes you think that I need help? Or your help, for that matter?”
