ALEXANDER POV

Her words pounded in my head as I drove home. I could barely concentrate on the road. Could she be telling the truth? Was it possible that Lucas had… Lucas?

I shook my head, dispelling the image. I can’t imagine either Isabella or Lucas committing such atrocity. Sure, humans are unpredictable, but Isabella has so many choices other than killing someone else. And Lucas…

Lucas.

Was it possible? Could he have?

I couldn’t sleep that night. I had visions of Isabella and Lucas murdering dad over and over again until I woke up in sweat. As early as 6am, I drove out to Lucas’s house. I had to see him. It was insane that we hadn’t talked about this nor seen each other since dad’s death.

Dad’s murder, rather.

I inhaled deeply before knocking on his door. We haven’t been on the best of terms, but maybe this death could bring us together again as siblings.

“Who’s that?” I could hear him yell from inside.

“I don’t know. I’m gonna check,” came Madison’s voice.

Hold on. Madison? What w

ISABELLA POVAlex was waiting for me at the foot of the steps when I stepped out from the graduation hall. He had a huge bouquet of flowers in his hand and an exotic car behind him. A new one? I ignored it and focused on him.I rushed down the stairs, holding the ends of my gown in one hand and my graduation cap in another. I jumped into his arms and he circled his arms around me, holding me tightly to his chest. I laughed in his neck and wrapped my legs around him. I could feel the petals and the scent of the roses cradling my back.“You came,” I whispered, laughing.“I’ll always come for you,” he responded.Slowly, Alex let me down. I slid down his body before my feet touched the ground, and then he kissed me. I melted, pulling him closer.“Congratulations,” he whispered, rubbing his nose on mine. “You did it. You fulfilled your dreams.”Tears filled my eyes. I hastily wiped them away before they could ruin my makeup and turned to look at the school. I couldn’t believe I had finally

ISABELLA POVAn hour later, Brianna stirred from her sleep and called for me.Alex sat on the floor outside my door, his back against the wooden frame. The paper lay between us, untouched. Neither of us had spoken since I read it—there was nothing to say."Isabella! I have to go now!" Brianna’s voice rang out.I shook off the fogginess in my head and jumped to my feet. Sensing my urgency, Alexander moved away from the door. He opened his mouth to speak, but I acted quickly, pressing my thumb to my lips—a silent signal for him to stay quiet. When he nodded and said nothing, I left the room and went to meet Brianna. She had washed her face in the kitchen sink and was picking at her things when I joined her.“I have to be somewhere this evening,” she told me absently. “I have this terrible headache and I know my homemade soup is going to cure them, so ciao!”“Okay, bye,” I answered meekly. She straightened and kissed the top of my head. “Congratulations again, my love. I’ll see you soon,

ISABELLA POVBrianna clicked her glass to mine. “Congratulations, friend We did it. We got in.”I took a deep gulp of the champagne. My insides burning with the warm, fuzzy feeling, almost like I was in love.“I can’t believe it.” Eyes wide and bright, I pointed to the open screen of the tablet in front of us. “We got an admission into the university? That fast? And together?”Brianna squealed in excitement. She twirled and did a little dance, sipping her drink as she moved. “This is wonderful! I get to go to aviation school, and you to modeling school. Together, we’ll become the biggest names in the world!”I laughed, dropping my glass on the table. “Bri, I’m going to be a designer. I can’t believe this. My model dreams are coming through.”She stopped in front of me and took my hands. “I’m in with you, my friend. We’re in this together.”Tears brimmed at my eyes. I tried to blink it away, but not before she saw it first.Brianna rolled her eyes. “Girl, please. Before you say anythin

ALEXANDER POV I waited impatiently while the doctor spoke with Madison and the doctor assigned to her. I could hear her screaming at the top of her voice, trying to indicate her innocence.I didn’t want to be here. This was unnecessary and I didn’t like that I was here experiencing this. The two officers started towards me. I braced myself, waiting for them to tell me that I wasn’t needed.“She’s stable now, but I’m afraid we’ll have to come back later and ask questions,” the first officer said to me.I nodded, waiting for the bomb. “So what am I still doing here?”“You can leave, but we’re just informing you since you’re responsible for her.”“How am I responsible for her?” I glanced between the both of them, highly suspicious. “I already gave my statement and everything. I don’t have to be here.”“You’re the father of her baby,” the first officer pointed out. “You’re somewhat responsible for her.”“How the hell am I… I’m not the father of her child!” I exclaimed. “We never even… it

ISABELLA POV I froze, pressing the phone to my chest. Has she heard me? Oh god, what if Madison had heard me make that call?“Stay on the line, ma’am,” the phone operator’s voice broke through the silence. “We’ll be there shortly.”I quickly hung up, now sure that Madison had heard me. She cracked a long laughter as she slowly made her way to the cellar door, her wooden club making a thumping sound as she came, announcing her presence.“So this is where you hide,” she tainted. “Scared little Isabella. I thought you were brave, huh?”“What the actual hell.” I started to crawl deeper into the small room, looking for a place to hide. “Alex, why did you have to have the craziest people?!”I raised my phone to my face and quickly sent Alex a short text:“Help me contact the police. Madison is trying to kill me.”Madison hit the door aggressively with the wooden club, making me jump.“I’m coming in now!” She called. “I’m coming to end this once and for all.”This was a small space. If she

ISABELLA POVOh, don’t give up! Don’t give up on me, baby...The song played from the radio. I sighed, dragging my luggage from the bedroom to the living room. The house was dead silent as a ghost, so quiet that I could hear my breathing. It felt like I was the only one alive.“Oh Edward…”My eyes landed on a small picture of him by the semi-long branch on the living room wall, where books and antiques hung. He looked younger then—back in college, just earning his degree. That was his happiest picture, the one he loved the most.“I’m sorry I ruined your life,” I murmured. “I wish I could take back the hands of time but…”But I wouldn’t want to go back.Meeting Alex is something I would never regret, and perhaps if I had not met Alex then, we wouldn’t have the relationship that we have now.“I messed everything up. This is all my fault.”Yeah, it might sound like a typical victim blaming, but I don’t feel so good right now. Imagine finding out that Edward had left the house to me and a

ALEXANDER POVI randomly think about that day and what I must have done wrong for Isabella to hate me the way she did. I remember the green top and trousers she was wearing, her eyes cold and blank as she told me that she never wanted to see me again. I remember standing up and reaching for her, and she avoided my grasp.“Let’s pretend that this never happened,” I remember her saying. “Alex, I want to forget everything about this aspect of my life. I want you to move on and leave me alone.”Just as suddenly as she arrived, she left. It felt like a movie; like she had come to pay me respect and give little speeches before leaving. It felt so unreal until she had gone.“You’ll just need to keep this tape on for a while longer,” Nurse Penny said as she checked my nose. “Every other part is healed except for this.”“I can take care of it,” I replied urgently. “But I need to go now.”“Your discharge isn’t due for another few hours,” she informed me.“What’s the difference between a few hou

ALEXANDER POVAfter a very much needed conversation about who should be allowed to visit and who’s not, the nurse in charge of me decided to lend me her phone. Her name was Penny.“Calls only,” she warned severely before she gave it to me. “And to this one person only.”“Just Isabella,” I promised. “I’ll pay you back when I get back on my feet.”She smirked and stood up, adjusting my drip again. “You’ll be discharged later this week, Alex. We’re still trying to check your vitals and make sure your wounds are fully healed before letting you go.”She paused, scrutinizing me carefully. “The nose surgery for one, isn’t healed yet.”Hearing that my bone was broken and that surgery had been done on my nose to fix it was depressing. Even more so was the evidence of the surgery—a bandage wrapped around my nose and tape holding it in place. Well at least I can breathe, so I’m thankful for that.“But the rest of me?” He inquired.“As good as new.”“I can’t remain in the hospital until my nose i

ALEXANDER POVIt was the soft humming that woke me up. I stirred, my eyes slowly opening to the new world. My head felt black, as if I was recovering from a deep slumber and my muscles were remembering how to move. How did I get here?I scanned the walls my eyes landed on, my brain struggling to catch up and understand just what I was seeing. A hospital? It seemed like. There was a beeping sound beside me.“My sweet, soft baby,” a female voice said slowly. “Your hair is as soft as silk, your skin as smooth as butter. You’re going to be fine, my darling.”Confused, my head followed the voice. My eyes fell upon a woman leaking so close, I could see her nose hairs above me. I screamed and she pulled back, my brain immediately recognizing her as Madison.“Alex, you’re alive!” She exclaimed, excited. “Thank goodness! I thought I lost you. I thought me and my son lost you!”My heart raced at her high pitched voice and the image of her face in my head. This was not the first thing I wanted t
