ISABELLE’S POV Lillian quickly comes towards us. She becomes angrier when she sees me beside Barden. She glares at me and I look at her while crying. Suddenly, a look of horror crossed her features when her eyes fell on my arm which was in the soldier’s grip. “Leave her arm right now. You cannot touch her. She belongs to the king and is very special to him. The king will cut your hand if he gets to know that you touched her”. She says to the soldier angrily and he immediately leaves my arm. He is looking at me with shock as if he just got to know that he has done a sin. “I did not know that she was someone special to the king. If I had known then I would have not touched her. ISABELLE’S POV “No please. Forgive me. Don’t do this with me, your majesty”. I beg while crying hysterically. I look around me towards the dark walls. There is no way to go. There is no one to help me and save me from this cruelty either. The king is standing in front of me angrily. His eyes have turned a different, darker shade than usual because of anger. I back away as he takes steps closer to me. He is furious at what I had done. His eyes are looking at me with rage. His whole demeanor is screaming how much he is angry. “This is what you deserve”. The king says as he is coming towards me with a big sharp dagger in his hand. The sharp silver dagger is making me more scared. My heart is beating rapidly like never before. His eyes are murderous. I take steps backward but stop when my back touches something hard. I look behind and see that now there is no place to go. No way to run and no way to hide. ERIC’S POV “What is it?” I ask Barden. “My king, everything was fine. Nothing unusual happened and we checked everything that entered and left the palace. But, a lady from the harem tried to escape from the palace-” Barden was speaking but I stopped him with a gesture of my hand. At this moment I am not in the mood to hear about the girls of the harem. I am tired and don’t want to hear about the escape attempt of a slave. Lillian is appointed as the head to deal with all the matters like this. “I don’t want to hear about any of this right now. ISABELLE’S POV “Please open the door! I beg you. I cannot stay here anymore. Please let me out! Help me! There is so much darkness here! Help!”. I shout as I bang on the door with my fist. I use my full force to bang on the door with the hope that someone will hear the sound of my banging and will come to help me. I have been doing it for such a long time that now my hands are hurting. I don’t know how much time has passed. My throat is dry and it hurts because of shouting for help. My hands are red and I feel like I don’t have any energy left inside me anymore. I am hungry and thirsty. My body is tired and aches because of sitting for such a long time. I look around me and don’t see anything. There is darkness all around me. ISABELLE’S POV The king leaves my neck and pushes me towards the floor. I put my hand on my neck as I try to inhale as much air as I can. Now my neck is in pain too. My breathing is irregular along with the beating of my heart. “I wanted to punish you for doing this but I want to be generous to you because I love you. I am going to give you two options, Isabelle. You can choose only one of them. I have thought about this a lot and now I think I can be this generous to the woman I love. It is your choice which you want to choose”. I look towards the king with my blurry vision. I cannot see his face clearly because of the tears. I wipe my eyes so that I can see him clearly. He is going to give me two options. I am surprised that he even thought to give me a choice. He is a cruel king then how can he be generous? ISABELLE’S POV “Why? Why this cruelty, my king”. I ask the king in a low voice. Fear has gripped my insides so tightly that now even my voice is coming so low. The king does not look at me but continues to look forward at the sand. “This is not cruelty, Isabelle. This is your punishment for trying to escape me and you have chosen this yourself in exchange for the life of those who helped you to escape. I told you numerous times that you should forget about your village and accept this life but you did not listen. No worries, I am sure that after this punishment you will never think of escaping me”. The king tells me in a cold tone. He looks toward me and I see only no mercy or kindness in his eyes. He puts a hand on the side of my face in a compassionate manner. “Now my dear love, walk on this hot and burning sand with the same feet with which you had walked outside the palace and towards the stable”. ISABELLE’S POV With shaking hands and fearfully I took the goblet from the king’s hand because I feared that he might do something to harm me. I am scared that he still has not forgiven me. “You must have never thought in your life that the king of Alsair Kingdom, Eric Leonor will fall in love with you and can do anything for you”. The king says. I don’t respond again because I don’t know what he wants me to say in reply to this. It is evident that he wants me to be thankful to him but I am not because I never wished for this. I never wanted this and this makes it hard for me to accept this life. I have only ever wanted a simple life in my village. A small home where I am happy. THE NEXT DAY ISABELLE’S POV Now my life has become more boring. I cannot even walk or go towards the window. I have nothing to do the whole day. I am tired of sitting in bed. Now I need the help of someone to do the simplest of things. The king has appointed a maid to take care of me. Her name is Margaret. She helped me in having a bath this morning and also brought breakfast for me. She left only a few moments ago because she had some work.
