Sophia

“I've sacrificed so much for our sake, to get this duplicitous act from my husband and my foster sister!” My heart clenched at the sight of their naked bodies.

I lacked words to say, My heart felt crushed under the weight of their sinful act!

“Sophie, I'm so sorry that you have to see us this way, this was never how we planned to break the news to you. Liam said, with a light shrug.

“What do you mean Liam? What are you even saying? Why would you do such a thing to me? I felt so defeated. At this point I couldn't fight back. I felt betrayed and I never believed I could be stabbed by the man I loved and trusted the most.

I lacked words to express how I felt, except for the questions that kept lingering through my mind. “Why, What, How?.”

“Luna is carrying my child, Sophie. I felt this called for a little celebration but we ended up here. He said with a sly smile, as he looked back at Luna who nodded like a child who was asked if she'd love to take her favorite ice cream.

How couldn't I have noticed Liam was a complete jerk all these years, how do people even feel comfortable toiling with one's emotions? Not to talk of someone so close to your heart or someone you love.

“She's carrying your child?," I asked, with utter disbelief in my voice, that means they've been doing this act right under my nose.

"Luna, how could you? Why do you hate me so much to the extent of destroying my matrimonial home, what did I ever do to you? I could feel my tears falling freely now.

“It's not so Sophia, I felt that since you were not able to give your husband a child for three years now, that I could be of help.” She spoke as if it were really a concern to her, but the mockery in her voice was visible.

I felt disgusted by her words, and I felt like ripping her into two halves. How dare she?

“You should be happy that I'm able to give your husband a child," she said, removing the hair that was already glued to her face due to sweat.

Her words triggered the anger in my heart, and I immediately gripped her hair making her wince in pain, she should feel the pain in my heart right now.

“Hey stop it Sophia! Liam said, trying to push me away from her, but I refused to stop.

Anger filled my heart, and I just wanted to inflict as much pain I felt in my heart on her. How could she come out of nowhere to destroy my own home? Only if they knew the sacrifices I made to get pregnant. Now Luna is also carrying his child, I felt my heart clench, I was losing it.

“Sophia, get away from her! " he said, throwing me a slap on my cheek, and I staggered back, my face suddenly turned red, and I could feel hot tears on my face.

Liam slapped me because of Luna, he slapped me because of my foster sister, who wouldn't let anything good come my way.

I was brought into the Ross’s family by Luna's father, Bernard Ross. When I was just eight years old, I lost my parents in a drastic car accident, of which I was the only one who survived.

Luna's mother, Ava Ross, hated me from the first day she set her eyes on me, I was Luna's age, and I wanted to be friends with her, but she would tell Luna a lot of negative things about me, which also made Luna hate me.

The remainder of my childhood days were just a living hell for me. I was only treated nicely in front of Luna's father, but whenever he was away, I would starve, and be beaten by both Luna and Ava.

The only good thing I achieved was going to one of the good schools in the city. I would only eat breakfast, because William Ross was still around, and I would make sure to finish up my food before he left for work, if not it'll be snatched and thrown away.

When Ava would come to pick up Luna, she would leave me behind at school, and I'd end up coming back on foot, or sometimes, Lindsay’s mum would give me a lift home.

I was still the best student in my class, and was liked by almost everyone in class, aside from Luna and her mischievous friends.

“Sophia, you should leave this house now! I will not let you harm my new wife and my unborn child.” I never could bring myself together to understand what was really wrong with Liam.

Your new wife, your unborn child, but I'm also pregnant for you too. I couldn't let him know now, I wouldn't want my unborn child to come into this cruel world and meet her father as unfaithful, or let anyone else maltreat us again.

“What really has come over you Liam,” I held his hands trying to reason my words with him, but he slapped it off.

“Since you were not able to give me a child, and your sister is pregnant for me, shouldn't you be happy?” I took my gaze to the floor, I couldn't even believe his words.

“I already put together your stuff, but before you leave, do well to sign the divorce papers on the table," he said, and I was startled.

I was too overly excited that I didn't even notice the neatly arranged papers on the table.

The stinging pain of my heart being ripped apart by the person I love the most was unbearable. I couldn't stand this pain, I wanted a better life, I wanted a peaceful life.

I took it upon myself to be happy, and to make everyone in my life happy. That was my motivation for this sacrifice that I made, for us to be happily married with kids.

But now, I couldn't stand being cheated on, or even being humiliated any longer. I wasn't going to fight it anymore, my life has been inflicted with enough pain for years now.

I'll just have to walk away.

I reached the center wooden table where the papers were neatly placed, I stared at the bodly written heading ‘Divorce Agreement’ and I felt a pang of pain lingering in my heart.

He had already signed, and I could tell he had planned all this before now.

I put myself together, holding firmly the pen that was wobbling in my hands, and signed the papers.

Happy Married Life! I said with tongue in cheek, flinging the divorce papers to his face.

—Sophia’s POVI stared at Ethan like I didn’t know him.Because right now, I didn’t.Not the man holding that weathered journal. Not the one looking at me like this wasn't the moment everything cracked.Like my whole life hadn’t just been rewritten in front of me."We were never random." he said.My heart stuttered."What did you just say?"His eyes didn’t flinch. Cold. Too calm. That calm that only ever shows up right before something explodes."She designed it. All of them, the clinic, the orphanage. The records. Everything about you and me."He hesitated, then said it.—"Us" It didn’t feel real. Not the silence that followed. Not the pressure blooming behind my ribs. Not the fact that Clarissa Wren—dead, buried, forgotten—was still pulling our strings like we were marionettes stitched together in her lab.I took a step back. Then another."So what, are we now an experiment now? Is that what we are now?”Ethan’s jaw clenched. "Sophia, you're not some experiment." "But you are?"

—Ethan’s POVI don't think she's after revenge. She’s after succession.Sophia was very correct, and that hit me like my father’s voice was coming back through the pages of that damned journal, I've kept for so many years. Clarissa didn’t want to destroy the family name. She wanted to rewire it.Rewrite it in her own ink.My ink.Our child.I closed the journal slowly, feeling every second thicken around me. Sophia leaned into me, her body trembling, but her grip on my arm never faltered. That grip was what kept me steady—what kept me from exploding.“She’s been building this for decades,” I muttered. “Underneath everything. The companies. The foundations. The clinic. It was all just... grooming. Preparing.”Sophia nodded, her lips pale. “Preparing for what?”I looked at her, and in that moment, I saw it clear as blood on snow.“For the perfect heir.”She swallowed. “Our Son, Irene?.”I couldn’t breathe. Not because I was afraid. But because I could feel the storm finally turning i

—Sophia’s POV I couldn’t breathe. The voice on the phone was calm—too calm. Measured like a scalpel. And every word sliced deeper than the last. “I was paid… but not by Maurice. He’s just the face.” A pause. Then a slow inhale, like she was savoring this. “There’s someone else behind this. Someone who’s been planning it longer than any of you realize.” I swallowed. Hard. My throat burned. My fingers dug into the armrest as Ethan leaned closer, trying to catch the voice. “Who are you?” I asked again, this time sharper. Louder. “I used to work at the clinic,” she replied, soft. Almost nostalgic. “I handled records. Samples. It was supposed to be just another job—until I got an offer I couldn’t refuse.” My heart pounded. “You… you were the one who switched the donor?” She chuckled. “Sweetheart, I did more than switch the donor. I buried the real paperwork. Scrambled the files. Do you really think a place like that doesn’t have a backup plan?” I pressed the ph

—Sophia’s POV And then— The doorbell rang. Three sharp chimes. Not frantic. Not hesitant. Calculated. Ethan didn’t move. Neither did I. But something inside me cracked. A thread pulled too tight for too long. Snapped. I stood. My knees didn’t feel like they were mine, but I walked anyway. Down the hall. Past the framed photos Ethan had never hung. Past the quiet portraits of a life we were barely holding onto. Ethan reached the door first. He didn’t ask who it was. He already knew. He pulled it open. And there she stood. Ivory. In black. Always black. Like grief she never had to feel. Like poison that knew it was beautiful. Behind her, two lawyers. And just over Ivory’s shoulder… Luna. In white. Pregnant. Except—she wasn’t. Not really. But the bump beneath her coat was too deliberate. Too round. Too planned. “You’ve got five seconds to walk away,” Ethan said. Ivory smiled like it was a compliment. “I’d reconsider threats, Julian,” s

—Sophia's POV The storm outside raged louder, but it was nothing compared to what roared inside me.Ivory.And Luna.Together.That combination was gasoline and a lit match—and we were the target.I barely blinked as Ethan barked orders into his phone, his voice cold and direct. "I want cameras on every block she could walk. I want the building bugged. If they so much as breathe wrong, I want to hear it."He hung up, jaw clenched so tight I could hear his teeth grind. The kind of rage he wore wasn’t loud. It simmered. Quiet, lethal.“What do you think they’re planning?” I asked, my voice hoarse. He didn’t answer right away. He just stared through the rain-slicked glass as if he could see through buildings, through lies, straight into their intentions.“She’s not back just to gloat,” he finally said. “Ivory doesn’t waste effort unless she’s aiming to finish something.”“And Luna…?” I asked. His eyes flicked to mine. “Luna’s petty. Easily manipulated. Ivory’s using that. Feeding her ju

    — Sophia’s POV (Aria)He said it like a vow.“Then we burn his world first.”And I believed him. Not because he was Ethan Williams—the ruthless billionaire with a ledger of enemies—but because he was Julian. The boy who once swore to protect me with nothing but his fists and a stolen apple clutched in one hand. But this wasn’t the orphanage. This was war.We were back inside the nursery, the air tense with truths that refused to settle. The silence wasn't quiet. It was thick, jagged. He paced. I stood still.“Cameron escaped.”The words gnawed at me.“How the hell?”“Marcus is tracing every route,” Ethan said, jaw sharp. “He’s using his old family ties. Ex-military contacts, and…” he paused, something flickering in his eyes, “the Black Chamber.”My breath hitched. I hadn’t heard that name in years.“You called them back in?”His silence was enough. My stomach twisted. That organization didn’t just trace leaks. They erased them. The tension between us tightened again, but not from mist
