Rory dragged me away before I could say anything else to Eleanor, or mistreat her, just to be sure. She waited until we were in our room.

"What was that?" she growled. "How did you know what we were talking about?"

I shuffled my feet. I didn't want her to know that I had mentally connected with her without her consent. But she had been so down in the past few days that I just wanted to know if I could help. She interpreted my silence as the worst.

"When are you going to stop playing?" she shouted at me, clenching her fists. "Whenever you stop this madness," I retorted. "Are you insane? How can you think that death is the answer? That witch is lying to you."

Chloe turned towards the door, ready to storm out in anger. I grabbed her hand and pulled her towards me.

"Please, Rory, please, listen to me."

"Just leave me alone."
