Chapter 4

"With all due respect, this is not the kind of meeting I expected, Ms Lambert. Please, do this in peace." Nicholas highly suggested. Yet, he remained calm as much as possible.

His job is to protect Sophia by all means necessary. Even if it will cost his life. And he was already aware of it the seconds he agreed to work with the Major family.

"Shut your mouth, if you don't want me to shoot you first, you, useless brat. You have no right to speak up in crucial meetings like this." says one of the men seated across Sophia.

The one who threatened Nicholas' wolf was John's younger brother, Eric Lambert. John and Eric both come from Minor Families. John was the head of the minor and his younger brother was next to him.

John is smart and patient. But Eric was the other side of his coin. He is impulsive. He gets annoyed easily. And every time someone gives his blood boiled, he will do his best to terminate them as soon as possible.

"Enough, gentlemen. We came here in peace, Uncle John. If I said something that hurt everyone's feelings, I will sincerely apologize for it." Sophia grabbed the glass of wine from the table and took a sip to clear out her throat.

Despite the toughness of her expression, Nicholas could not help but sense her trembling arms and legs. Not to mention her thunderous heartbeats that drummed his ears.

"But I didn't like the tongue of your bodyguard, Sophie. Is he a new member of the major family?" John asked back. "Because if it does, it seems that your family has already lost its code in getting one. Disrespectful. Arrogant. Bastard."

Nicholas' ears stiffened when he could not believe what his wolf is hearing. The minor family judged him even if none of them had their background checks first. And Nicholas hates that kind of attitude from humans.

"Yes. I am. Just started my first day today." Nicholas retorted. "But I disrespect no one, with all due respect sir. Needless to say, I am neither arrogant nor bastard as you referred me. You all know nothing about my past."

Nicholas was cautious of his words. The last time he remembered, three minutes of his lifeline was deducted after using profanity in front of Sophia. And the last thing he would want to happen is to get his lifeline to get drained for using unreasonable words.

To everyone's surprise, including Sophia and Nicholas, Eric leapt out of his seat and pinned Nicholas's face to the table with the tip of his gun on top of his head.

The glass of wine that hits Nicholas' head was poured and scattered throughout his face. "I said. You have no right to speak for yourself. You're just a useless bodyguard. Did your parents forget to teach you about good manners and right conduct, huh?" Eric grasped Nicholas' head harder, giving him a hard time removing his face from the table.

What made Nicholas feel more furious and skeptical at the same time was when neither Sophia nor John ordered Eric to calm down, get back to his seat, and apologize. Instead, they both simply looked at him being pinned to the table as if they did not notice him.

"Don't you dare drag my parents out of this, sir?" Nicholas didn't care if someone could see his glimmering eyes as he grabbed Eric's hand away from his face by force.

Eric tried to fight back against Nicholas' strength, but his human strength was nothing to a wolf. So, he pulled the trigger of his gun but the bullets penetrated straight into one of Sophia's security guards standing behind them.

Everyone was startled, but none of them made their first move aside from Nicholas as he snatched the gun from Eric and pointed it straight to his forehead.

"If you still wanted to see the next sunrise, I highly suggest for you get back to your seat, sir. And next time you will drag my family on this, I'm not gonna hesitate to carve a bullet straight in your brain, sir. Which is which? You choose." Everyone could the intense level of seriousness that was written on Nicholas' face.

Nicholas owed his life to his parents. And he highly respected and still treasure them because of that even if they were already a part of his memories.

To make sure Eric will follow his request, Nicholas cocked the gun as he kept the gun's point of direction to Eric's forehead. Leaving no choice, Eric straightened his crumpled tuxedo and slid back to his seat. Nicholas did not let go of his hands until Eric got seated next to John.

However, Eric's eyes were still sharp toward Nicholas. He was completely embarrassed in front of their security guards. Nevertheless, in front of his brother and Sophia. Never in his life could someone order him what to do aside from his dad or John since they hold the top positions of the minor families.

For that same reason, a few plans were already drawn into his evil mind. Revenge has befallen Eric's heart and mind. What made Eric more furious and intimated was when Nicholas extended his sincere appreciation for getting back to his seat in peace.

Well. Even if he was in fury, Nicholas has to say favourable words, not just to Eric, but to everyone around him, to make sure a minute of his lifeline will not be deducted. That was all that matters to Nicholas.

"Shall we proceed with the meeting?" Sophia announced before she ordered her security guards to take their guns away. John followed shortly to his men.

Before Sophia said more words, Nicholas's wolf immediately noticed her broken smile that was pointing at him. He didn't know if he have to get pleased because he stopped the possible bloodshed or be completely intimidated by it since she did nothing for him while Eric pinned his face to the table.

"I seem to like your new bodyguard, Sophie. He's quite surprising. Fearless. And still, he addressed my bastard and coward brother in a good manner. Fabulous. How much is his price if I want to buy him?"

Nicholas' stiffened ears got extended when they were supposed to have a meeting yet, all their attention was focused on him. The worst part was that they considered him as someone with a price on his head.

With that, Nicholas regretted involving his werewolf in Sophia's Mafia world when he was simply living in peace with his past life, saving humans in exchange for his survival.

"A hundred billion dollars. I'm selling Nicholas' head at that price. His expertise in battle was superb. He is fast. Strong. And most of all, he is willing to kill for you." Sophia leaned her elbows on the table and smiled at John. "Could you afford to lose that kind of money for one person, huh, Uncle John?"
