“Grandfather,” Xander’s voice rang out, “may I introduce to you all… Mrs. Tatiana Alexander Michelle—my wife.”

Xander said with a curt smile. His eyes were gleeful as if what he said meant more than just words.

Tatiana stood still with her eyes sweeping across the faces before her. None of them were new, but Jacob’s gaze pierced her with a sting of hurt that nearly buckled her knees.

The old man’s face hardened, a mixture of surprise and disappointment etching his features. He had brought her into this family. Did she just betray him?

Tatiana’s heart twisted with guilt under the weight of Jacob's stare. On the other hand, Alexander was reeling in the expressions of everyone's face: shock, confusion and hate. He drank it in like wine, savoring every bit of it.

Then, as if that wasn’t enough, he rose majestically from the couch. Each step of his polished shoes echoed deliberately across the floor, he strode toward Tatiana.

His eyes were no longer dark or cold. The corners o

Tatiana sat in her room, the curtains half drawn, shadows dancing across the walls. Her phone buzzed on the nightstand. The name flashing on the screen made her lips tighten. “Not again, Derrick.” She ignored it. The phone rang again. And again. By the fourth time, she silenced it. By the sixth, she pressed the pillow over her head. But when the eighth call came through, her patience snapped. She snatched the phone up. “Derrick, please. I told you not to call me again. It’s over. Nothing can go on between us. You have to accept that.” A soft chuckle slipped through the line. Not Derrick’s low, needy tone. Something brighter. A playful female voice. “Well, that’s dramatic. But wait, wait—hold on. I already have a boyfriend, Miss Tatiana. Don’t drag me into your heartbreak speeches.” Tatiana blinked, startled. She pulled the phone back and checked if she had mistaken he caller ID for someone but it was Derrick's line. “Freda? Wait—what are you doing with Derrick’s phone?” Freda

“I’m not calling him, Hart.” Xander’s words were stern, his jaw locked like stone. “You have to, Michelle. Right now you’ve got no option. Either you ask for help from Karl or lose her…” David leaned back in his chair, his tone laced with mockery, the corner of his lips twitching upward despite the seriousness carved on Xander’s face. Xander’s eyes flickered to the phone on the desk. A shadow of hesitation crossed him, the battle warring behind his expression as if the simple device carried the weight of his undoing. “Pick it up, Xander. You have to…” David urged. it was as if he was reeling in Xander's frustration. The silence pressed down on Xander heavier than his own thoughts when he picked the phone. He sat frozen, staring at the phone in his hand. His thumb hovered over the screen. He hated this. Hated that David had been right. Hated that the one person who could help was the one person he didn’t want to call— who would frustrate him to the core— was his only hope. He p

“Did you do what I asked of you?”David’s head snapped up. His brows shot up high, confusion flashing across his face as his mouth fell slightly open. He leaned back in his chair, staring as if Xander had just spoken in a language he couldn’t understand.“Wait—you’re serious about that? Why do you want to research about Tatiana?”“I want to know everything about her. Is that a crime?”David studied Xander’s face closely, his eyes narrowing, his mouth pressing into a line as if he were trying to read every flicker of emotion hiding beneath his skin.“I just want to know.”“Really? May I know why?”“Just do it without questioning, Hart! The last thing I want right now is your stupid interrogation!”“But I’m not—”“You are!”Xander began pacing the room, his long strides restless, his hand raking through his hair as he moved back and forth like a caged animal.“Is there something you’re not telling me, Xander?”“Nothing!”“But your face says the opposite of your words. Tell me, what did

Xander came out of the bathroom, the sleeves of his shirt rolled up neatly to his elbows. He dragged the towel roughly over his hair, pushing it back until it fell in uneven waves, droplets tracing down his temples. He hesitated at the door, one hand on the knob, the other rubbing the back of his neck as though the simple act of speaking was far too heavy. “You can… uh—” his voice cracked slightly, and he cleared his throat to cover it, eyes darting away from her face. “You can freshen up now. I’m… done.” His words came clipped, sharp as always, but the small break in his voice betrayed him. Tatiana’s fingers gripped the blanket tighter. Her throat felt dry and she could not bring herself to meet his eyes either. She nodded quickly, her lashes lowered like a curtain. Then pushed herself off the bed, stumbling slightly as if the floor had shifted beneath her feet. “Th-thank you,” she murmured, her voice so soft it almost dissolved in the air between them. Without a second glance

Xander woke first. The faint gray light of morning slipped through the curtains, painting the room in a muted glow. No nightmare. The first thing he felt was warmth. Her warmth. Tatiana was curled against him, her breaths steady against his chest. Damp strands of her hair clung in loose waves across his shirt, cool against his skin. His pulse hammered, loud in the stillness. He studied her face—the gentle curve of her mouth, the fan of her lashes, the faint blush across her cheeks. A picture of peace that made his eyes still. Xander's hand betrayed him, brushing her hair back. Silken strands slipped between his fingers, and for a second he allowed himself the indulgence of that simple touch. She stirred faintly but didn’t wake, and something unguarded in her expression tugged a reluctant smile from him. Then his gaze dropped. Her lips—soft, flushed, close. Heat surged through him. His inner demons began conversing with him urging him to lean in. He leaned in

The dining hall’s voices still echoed faintly in the back of Xander’s mind as he carried Tatiana in his arms through the corridor. His grip on her was firm but careful, each step steady as though he feared she would break apart if he faltered even slightly. She felt too light in his arms, fragile, her faint sobs still trembling against his chest. Her face pressed into him, wetting his shirt with tears, and each drop burned into his skin like fire. Xander's jaw clenched, his throat tightening with emotions he refused to hide. By the time he reached their room, Tatiana had gone quiet. She wasn’t asleep—her lashes fluttered faintly against his chest, and he could feel the faint rise and fall of her shallow breaths. She looked exhausted, her strength drained by the cruel words flung at her like stones. Xander set her down on the bed gently, his hand lingering at her waist longer than necessary before pulling back. Tatiana turned her face to the side, hiding her expression. Her
